Becca Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured Review, Photos, Swatches
Becca Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured
Becca Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured ($38.00 for 0.19 oz.) is described as a “pale gold.” It’s a soft, light-medium gold with warm undertones and a luminous sheen. Estee Lauder Courreges (LE, $32.00) is lighter, powder. Tarte Champagne (LE) is lighter, powder. Becca Moonstone (P, $38.00) is very similar, powder. theBalm Mary Lou-manizer (P, $24.00) is darker, powder. Bobbi Brown 24 Karat (P, $42.00) is darker, powder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
“Poured” is probably not the best way to describe this product, as it’s not really intuitive; it is a cream highlighter. Here is a breakdown of the other versions of this product: Pressed – $38/0.28 oz. and Liquid – $41/1.7 fl. oz.). The pressed version is the most shimmery and has the most color intensity, while the liquid version is lightest in weight and sheerest of the three. For traditional highlighting, I personally prefer the pressed as it is easiest to use and wears the longest, and for all-over illumination, I like mixing the liquid with moisturizer or foundation. However, the pressed versions can be rather shimmery, so if you’re someone who has loved the colors and concept of the pressed compacts but have found it to be too shimmery for your liking, the cream version is an excellent in-between option. It is also a better version if you have drier or more textured skin, as the shimmer is smoother and more pearl-like than frost-like. I’m hoping to do some comparisons soon, but I don’t own all of the products so I am working on that.
The Poured formula is supposed to have “high color payoff” with a “smooth, creamy finish” and “ultrafine pigment pearls.” It was actually quite pigmented with mostly opaque coverage, which I wasn’t sure it was going to be, and once you brush at the product, the color tends to lighten a bit. I liked to pat the cream highlighter along the tops of the cheekbones with a fingertip or with a tapered, duo fiber brush (I used one by Real Techniques) and then blend it together for a seamless golden sheen. The texture is thin, lightweight with an emollient, creamy feel, so it is easily sheered out or blended on the skin. It works on bare skin, under foundation (though, as you might expect, it will depend on the type and coverage of your foundation), and over foundation with success. It didn’t cause foundation to breakdown or separate as it was being applied. My skin is normal at the moment, and it lasted for eight and a half hours before it started to fade and move.

Oh this looks lovely on you, Christine, you look so radiant!
Aw, thank you!
Glad to have all the options. I love the liquid. I may pick this up next Sephora haul for when I don’t want to futz around with the liquid. Good to hear it doesn’t interfere with base products.
I feel like it has a place, given how sheer the liquid is, so now one can get a more emollient, creamy consistency but with the payoff of the pressed!
Hmm… I think I’ll go test this out, it looks like someting I’d like on those “no makeup” days.
Definitely! 🙂
I can’t wait to try it. I’m glad the formula works well.
I hope the other shades are just as nice!
I was wondering how this would work, but I like it!
Me too!
I am really going to try this highlighter, especially because you said that “it works on bare skin” – I don’t use foundation and any other makeup cream, only sunscreen.
(Thanks so much for your hard job, Christine! Your reviews are always very, very well-done, well written, and this is particularly comprehensive, detailed and rich!)
My deep gratitude,
(Lauren)
You will love this on bare skin!!
I’ve been meaning to try the Becca highlights for a while but now I don’t even know where to start lol. This one looks beautiful too!
If you use powder more often, I’d probably start there!
Start with topaz. It will be a good highlighter for you , as it is gorge on brown skinned beauties.
I have been impatiently stalking the site for a review of these. I seriously want all of them! I think I fall into the category of the person who loves the pressed . But find I don’t use it quite enough because it is so very shimmery. I feel like it highlights my fine lines and the liquids ..well..I love them, but, I get too rushed or lazy sometime. At the same time, I do have the Kevyn Aucoin duo with the sculpt and cream starlight and I just hardly use it! This looks so pretty on you.Everything looks so pretty on you though! lol I may have to check it out! I really love Opal in the powder best. Are these pretty similar across the formulas?
I really want Rose Gold but it’s still not in stock yet!
The colors are very similar between the formulas, but I think how they shimmer/reflect is a bit different.
I know! I have Rose Gold in powder. But, never got around to buying it in the liquid. There are so many gorgeous highlighters out there,it so hard to keep up! I cannot wait to see this in Rose Gold! I bet it will be gorgeous as a blush of fair skin gilrls and gorgeous in the summer! I am pretty excited to see how topaz does in this form too. I am wondering if it would work as a glowy summer bush or if it will disappear on our skin tone.
Hi again!FYI, ALERT! I just aw that Sephora has Rose Gold in! I just ordered it myself along with Moonstone and I could not resist Opal! I don’t have Topaz in any formula. But I noticed how gorgeous it is on you in the powder review. Now, I have to decide between 3 formulas to chose which is best for me! In, all honesty, I see pearl in my future as well if this formula works out well. I have that in a mini cream. I get ya on the highlighter luv thing! 😀 !
Haha! I got the email, too, so I grabbed one for me! 😀
Sorry for the second comment. A problem I run into with creams and liquid luminizers is that I tend to put them on after blush and sometime I find they cause my blush to look spotty. I am wondering your order of application or do you think I am blending too hard? I usually use my fingers. I have a couple of small duo fiber brushes that i could try as well.( I actually just got an It cosmetics highlight duo fiber brush that I love with powder highlight,#223..awesome brush!)
I typically use fingertips or a duo-fiber brush and haven’t had any issues with either of those! 🙂 If I know ahead of time, I would apply the cream highlight first, then the powder blush.
yeah..that would be the smart way to go about it! 🙂
Hi Nicole: Just to add to the convo. I like the liquids too. I find they do tend to lift some products so I do one of two things. I either apply just lightly tapping with my finger and then I follow up with my beauty blender..it usually has a bit of foundation left on it and so it tends to diffuse very nicely. Or.. I take a bit up on my finger and spread it on the beauty blender directly and then pounce it on with the BB. I find spreading a bit on the sponge first ensures I do not end up with too much product and a subtle result.
Great idea WWendy! Thanks for the tip. Great idea! I will try it for sure! Thank you.I also have been wanting to thank you for the advice on the Koh Gen Doh foundation. It’s a lovely formula!
My pleasure! Glad you are enjoying it 🙂
I wish companies stopped decreasing the amount of product. I remember it used to be a norm to have a .32 oz compact. But the Skin Perfector does look beautiful; it’s neither highlight nor just a powder.
I totally understand! On the flip side, it might have made more sense to charge less but go for a smaller size given that creams expire faster.
This looks great, but I think I’ll stick with Benefit’s Watts Up.
I wish companies would stop trying to make everything sound so innovative. It reminds me of that one guy in Project Runway.
“They’re so pretentious, ‘It’s, like, a poured consistency-‘ shut up, it’s f***king cream.”
I’m like… liquid, pressed… poured? How about cream!
I agree, haha!
I’m just excited that there’s another option for Pearl! I like the liquid for “everyday” looks, but I like bit more intensity sometimes. I have Moonstone & Opal in the pressed form, but I’ve always wished there was a Pearl, as Moonstone is too “golden”, and Opal is too dark-although both do work.
I think the term “poured” comes from the fact it starts off as more of a liquid, and settles, and is poured into the pan wher it settles, as opposed to being pressed into the pan, or remaining a liquid.
Yay!
I get why you can call it Poured, I just think that they made it unnecessarily confusing 🙂 I imagine most creams are poured into a pan or tube, but that’s just going off of what I’ve seen in a couple of labs/factories.
I bet Pearl is going to be gorgeous in this formula. I never got why they didn’t put it in the powder either. And now, I totally wan to order it like right now! So happy these are permanent!
This is unrelated, I know we briefly talked about our daughter’s and their skin care routines. Since your daughter seems more into than mine, I would like to ask you , if you do not mind sharing?: What does she use? I would like to have my daughter use something a little more quality in the non-chemical,non-paraben dept. But, I want her to use it and I don’t wan to spend a fortune on it! She young and obviously, cleansing and protecting is mainly only what she needs now. thanks! 🙂
It gives off such a beautiful glowy radiance! I wonder whether setting it afterwards with an HD or translucent powder would extend its wear time? Curious because most of my UD highlight powder is gone. I have hit major pan on it!
It might, but I think it’ll tamp down some of that luminosity as well so it’d be a careful balancing act!
That’s what I was a bit worried about, too. I do not use a talc powder, but a silica HD powder by Nyx, so perhaps if I only dust it on very lightly? I usually only use powder highlights, so this would be a first.
I set cream highlighters with a silica based powder instead of talc. While it does diminish thelluminosity a bit, it’s not as much as a traditional talc-based powder, and I find I can still stipple more highlighter over the silica, if needed.
I was about to go pick up a compact of the pressed, but now I am glad that I waited. I think this is the perfect compromise between the liquid and the powder, and is much easier to throw into my cosmetic bag than the liquid. This looks beautiful on you Christine, your skin is really lovely!
Thank you so much, Michelle! Hope you love the cream formula – which shade were you thinking about?
Moonstone is my usual go-to in the liquid, but recently I have been playing with opal, and I like that one too. Decisions, decisions right? I’ll probably start with this one, it really does look so pretty.
Very pretty!
It is!
Very pretty! I already have 3 tubes of the Becca spotlights and love them, so it might be a while before I consider getting this one, but it’s so very pretty. I think this one is better for touch-ups, as you can just press on top of makeup
True! These are easier to dab on without disturbing products underneath since they’re not as emollient as the liquids.
Looks very pretty on you Christine – would it work for fairer complexions?
Yes, I think so! Very blendable/easily sheered out if you want.
Thank you, thank you for explaining the difference between this product “poured” and the pressed powder I bought just a couple of months ago. Too bad I didn’t wait a little longer. I never use the rose gold pressed powder version that I bought and thought I needed so badly. I do so much better with creams, but I can’t justify buying another one!
Happy I could help, Allison! 🙂
You glow! I like the simple look. Good for lazy makeup days. I really gotta get on these Becca highlighters. I’ve see so many great reviews. I do like that they offer the different versions…something for everyone no matter what medium they like. They all work well in their own way.
They would be fab for lazy days for sure – even if all you wanted was a little dab over bare skin and nothing else!
Great review.
Thanks!
Do you find the Becca highlighting powders in general to be more pigmented than those from theBalm (the lou-manizer bunch)? I’ve been thinking of trying Opal or Rose Gold.
I find this whole VIB Rouge-only thing to be kind of obnoxious. I’m a VIB.
Same pigmentation as theBalm! 🙂
Thanks! Maybe I don’t really need it then, I have all three of the Lous 🙂
I love the Becca highlighters! I have a thing for highlighters; I usually reach for my Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks but the Becca ones give the BB ones a run for their money. I don’t have any cream highlighters but have been wanting to try one, I can’t wait u Tim these are released for everyone, I will be trying these out!
I hope you like ’em when you get a chance to try it 🙂
I love this highlight, it looks absolutely heavenly. Mecca has always done so well with highlights, I am obsessed with opal, so I want to get my hands on this little guy as well
xx
They have done a great job with their highlighter range! 🙂
I’m very new to using powder foundation. I got the itCosmetics 100 names :sarcasm rears its ugly head: illumination kind to try out. I’m having all sorts of learning curve :I’ll go with that 🙂 it sounds nicer: moments. One of my big questions is could you use something like this over a powder foundation? Actually, please help this makeup hoarder in distress. I have no idea if I can use cream or liquid blush, highlight, bronze etc with powder foundation. Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of experiment time right now so Ive been keeping it safe and boring. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Hey Bonnie!
You totally could, but you’ll just want to apply in thin layers 🙂
Lord. I DO NOT need these. I think I will get the rose gold one , then get topaz in liquid ( its easier to travel with the liquid for me )
Nice picks 😀
Meh, I don’t think I need this when I own the Mary-Lou Manizer. Not a fan of creams either. It looks really pretty on you, though! 🙂
If you don’t like creams, then this isn’t the right product for you!
I love the look of this. I always wanted to highlight but I dont like the shimmery look, prefer just a sheen. The pressed version is too much for me. I like the Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder but cannot afford it. This seems to have the right texture for me.
I hope this it!
Thank you so much for the photos of the ingredients! So helpful when deciding if I want to order online.
No problem!
I’m really conflicted as to whether to get the poured or pressed version of Moonstone. My local retailers only carry pressed, which I really liked but thought might be a touch too shimmery. From the sounds of your reviews, poured might be a better option for me (creamy, less shimmer) but it does look slightly more yellow – and I don’t want yellow! Is the pigmentation/color very different between the two? I’d love some help deciding!
Poured is definitely going to be better than the pressed if you prefer less shimmer. They’re very similar in color once on 🙂 If you want subtler shimmer, the liquid is even less (and also less pigmentation).
