Round-up: MAC x Cinderella Collection Overview & Thoughts

The upcoming MAC x Cinderella collection features a mix of products for eyes, lips, and face. The products come in limited edition, shimmery blue packaging that has a slight iridescent quality to it, but the plastic itself is almost semi-matte so it’s not as shimmery as you might think. Most of the collection under-performed, so unfortunately, I can’t be enthused about the collaboration, despite Cinderella being my favorite childhood movie.  The eyeshadow palette was a surprise high performer, but it contains five permanent shades, which is great if you’re new to MAC, but less exciting if you already own a few of them.  Pretty It Up pigment was the other higher performing product in the collection, but it was already released in the past.

If you’re really looking for something to buy for packaging, I would recommend the eyeshadow palette or one of the cheek products (so long as you don’t mind sparkle).  I think Happily Ever After Lipglass is pretty in person as well, but it’s not a particularly great product all in all.  I wish the collection also featured a makeup bag and/or fancy mirrored compact.

I think she’s asking which grade is correct. On this post it’s listed as an A-, but on the actual review page (also for the Cinderella version) it is listed as a B+. 🙂

It all looks nice on you Christine, but I think it will just be the beauty powder and eyeshadow palette for me (I don’t have any of those colors).

Ditto what BB said! I don’t know how you remember your own name with all these products to swatch, review, etc, haha!

You do a great job and your info is very helpful to me in terms of making smart purchasing choices for myself. I’d be lost in makeup-land confusion without this site. 🙂

Did you like the collections as far as the colors used? I would love to see you recreate the essence of Cinderella as a makeup collection with some better performing products from you stash. I think it would make a great read and be inspiration to others.

The shadow kit was the surprise performer in this collection, but overall, this was a huge missed opportunity! With a theme like Cinderella, they could’ve done SO much more with the packaging and the colors. A big miss, especially compared to the Toledo collection

I totally agree with you Christine! I personally feel like Mac has been rushing to release too many collections lately. Not only do a lot of them lack in quality but also creativity on the packaging. They had some great opportunities to make some fun/inventive products for their limited releases ex. Maleficent, Simpsons and of course Cinderella just to name a few. They could have really raised the bar. I will buy a couple of things from the collection only because i’m a huge Cinderella fan and the blue and gold packaging is pretty cute but i’m underwhelmed.

lol yes it is! the Maleficent collection was one of the worst! I was hoping they were going to learn from that and get creative with this collection but it seems like they used the same approach. slap on the name of the movie and call it a day….womp wompppp =/

I’ll not go seeking this collection out (i.e. order online or have a friend in the U.S. track it down), but if it comes here, I’ll consider the Beauty Powder “just to have something” for the packaging like you say – oh how well you know us, Christine. 🙂 But I agree with the others, they could have done more with the packaging – this is one of the reasons I didn’t end up getting anything from the Maleficent collection.

I might be in a minority but i liked lightly tauped. I swatched it a few times in different stores and the less I used the more the sparkle and sheen showed and there wasnt the vaseline texture.

I, too, wish it had a fancy mirror compact — I would grab that up in a heartbeat since Cinderella is my favorite but none of the other products really speak to me.

I thought this whole collection was so diappointing. The eye palette seems pretty nice, but very neutral. I wish some punches of soft pink and pretty blue were included. It’s as though they took the “glass slipper” (clear and sparkly) theme through the whole collection. The packaging is such a letdown. I like the blue color, but a screen-printed slipper and some sparkle would have made a huge difference.

I did snag the Cinderella slipper from the Disney Store, and I’m happy to report it’s incredibly beautiful and very well made. If MAC had done packaging similar to its design, even a screened on version, it would have elevated the collection quite a bit.

I feel like even in a collection this small, there would have been room for those looking to recreate the actual movie look (or who just like neutrals), and for those who were looking for more pops of color inspired by the story. I think the only real reason I would rank this above Maleficent is simply the number of products available, period. I’m picking up a few items, but I’m still a little let down by the collection overall.

I’m so disappointed. I wanted something for the packaging but I don’t actually want a thing from this collection which is so not like me. Wish the face products wee more of an actual blush or highlighter. Looks like just a sparkle powder

I am SO disappointed in the lipsticks. Been super excited for this collection but cant stand a lustre finish and feel both shades are so light that the swatches Ive seen are hardly visible. They look more like a frosted lipgloss. 🙁

I’m wondering besides the eyeshadow I’m an NC45 what would b a good item if I wanted something right now I’m kinda just wanting the brushes @ least they’ll b cute and useful lol! But I want something from the makeup! help?!!

So disappointed my favorite Disney movie of my childhood and first book I read by myself as a child. Really excited but nothing lives up to the expectation. I think they must have been aiming for moms to bring there little girls and preteens to MAC, get em hooked early.

Christine! Are you going to have swatches of the new Eyes on MAC palettes? I really want them but I need your swatches before I order lol.
