Guerlain Dore (04) Meteorites Compact Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Dore (04) Meteorites Compact
Guerlain Dore (04) Meteorites Compact ($62.00 for 0.35 oz.) is described as having “gold dots to illuminate, while fuchsia dots joyfully revive radiance and chocolate dots warm up the skin.” It’s a translucent pink with subtle warm undertones and a very subtle sheen. Guerlain Crazy Meteorites (LE, $69.00) is actually rather similar, but I think it was smoother and silkier. Guerlain Angelic Radiance (LE, $53.00) is more pigmented (more like a blush, as it was intended, in comparison to this) but similar in tone and effect, so I think it might be the way to go if you want actual color. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
I was surprised to see as much color in this as there was, given that there were only three pink-hued sections. It seemed to brighten the skin while adding a little bit of radiance, but I think it had less luminosity compared to Clair and Medium. The texture, while soft to the touch, was a little drier–it just didn’t feel as luxurious or as smooth to me as the other two, but luckily, it still sat well on the skin and blurred imperfections. It had the subtlest effect of the three shades on my skin tone; it brightened subtly but didn’t add any warmth that I could see, and it added a little illumination but not much. I could barely detect it in person, and I don’t think it picks up in photos at all. I think if you have pinker undertones or a fairer complexion, it might be really nice for brightening without adding a lot of sheen, but from my experience, it misses the mark on two of the three things it’s supposed to do. It did prolong the wear of my foundation by an hour, even though it is a finishing powder (not a setting powder).

It looks very subtle, yes, it looks very fresh and spring-y 🙂
I think it might be really good on fairer skin tones or those with pink undertones!
I’m not so sure about 04 being better on fair skin unless the idea is to use it as a subtle blush. I’m NC15 and 04 Doré is way too “colorful” to act as an all-over finishing powder. On my light complexion, 02 Clair is perfection with 03 Medium coming in a close second.
It’s too bad 04 isn’t as nice as the others. I bought 02 Clair for travel (my Wulong and Voyage compacts are soooo heavy!) and have been quite pleased with it as it is light and easy to transport in a purse or carry on. At home, I stick to the loose pearls.
I think Light with pink undertones may find it works well, because it can brighten without worry about it looking powdery 🙂
Good to know.
It was such a surprise!
I’m very sad to see this get a not-so-exceptional review. I have a perennial tan with a medium undertone, and this product has done amazing things on my skin. My skin looks luminous tinged with a beautiful, subtle pink. But I agree that this one didn’t add warmth at all.
I guess I got lucky that this one worked perfectly with my skin color and undertone.
Happy to hear, Rem! What are some foundation shades that work for you? (It may help others with a similar skin tone!)
I can get away with both NC42 and NW30, but I personally believe that NW30 works a bit better on my skin as I tend to lean toward the cooler side.
Thank you!
I can’t tell the difference – each side of your face looks equally radiant! It’s very pretty in the pan, but for $ 62, I want more of a wow factor. Maybe it will show up more on fairer skintones
I sat here last night as I was writing up the review, flipping back and forth between the two photos, and I just wasn’t seeing it! In person, there’s a subtle difference, but I couldn’t capture it at all in the camera!
Your eyes are so gorgeous here, Christine! I recognized the MUFE shades straight away. I’ve definitely rocked practically the same eye before. The slight wave in your hair, the purple shirt, and that lovely eye make you truly shine. Stunning!
Aw, thanks Celia! 🙂
Wow..I did not expect it to be pink! I thought it would be geared to women of color..this is sad. good review. 🙂
Me neither!
Thanks Christine for this review. I had high hopes that the Dore meteorite compact would look great on my NC50 complexion this Spring. Sadly I’ll pass on this. Hopefully they’ll have something fun and pretty for us darker makeup lovers this summer.
Let’s hope so!!
I bought this too, I didn’t notice anything significant, but I thought it was just me. I am disappointed. I thought Dore was for darker skin. Should I try the light or medium instead?
I’d go Medium if you were going to try any, but I don’t know if it’s going to work on darker skin (it’s very similar to Clair).
Hmmm, I think it could work on me as a very sheer blush!
It could!
Sad it didn’t work for you 🙁 … I use it on the apples of my cheeks as a light blush and it works fine. I bought it for more of a light blusher though … I’m anything from a NC5 to an NC20 in the summer though.
The problem is that it isn’t actually a blush, so I’m not at all rating it as a blush but as a finishing powder 🙂
I really like your MUFE eye look with that beautiful top (I love that color!).
Thanks, Pami!
Looks like a very subtle powder. I think you would have to try it for yourself to see how it works on your complexion. Looks very pretty on you Christine.
I agree!
You look like you’ve been cosying up inside and staying warm (and thoroughly enjoying it!)
Luckily it isn’t too cold here!
I was surpised to see this one didn’t do so well! I mean, it still looks nice and all, but I’m not sure what it wants to be exactly. It’s pretty though…
It seems more like a very subtle blush for fair skin, but it doesn’t seem quite like the finishing powder it’s intended to be!
For some reason I was thinking this was going to be a little warmer and not so pink lol. It still looks great on you!
Same here, Fancie!
I was wondering if this would add any warmth…good to know it doesn’t seem to (good for my wallet, I mean). Hehe.
It didn’t add any warmth for me, unfortunately!
How unusual!
I was surprised!
Where is the “Dore”? So weird.
I was definitely expecting a bit more of a bronze tone.
im tan/dark tan(nc42) and I hope this can work for me…where is a finishing powder for tan-dark skinned people?! 🙁
🙁
What is your opinion or the meteorite compacts in general compared to the meteorite beeds? I have recently purchased the beers in fair and medium and have found they beautifully neutralize flaws such as pores and fine wrinkles. I knew it made a difference but have recently identified the difference. It seems the compacts aren’t that effective or have a different effect.
I prefer pressed as I find them easier to use and gives me the same effect – I also tend to prefer the sheen of the pressed as some of the pearls have larger sparkle.
