To be honest, I was going to say something snarky about donating directly to the MAC Aids Fund instead of buying duplicate colors, but I’ve looked and looked and I think the only way to give money is to buy the lipstick surprisingly! They do have volunteer opportunities in some cities, but I know most of us end up on beauty blogs because we don’t live in a metropolis so I’m kind of stumped. I DO really appreciate the MAC Aids Fund because it seems to be a charity with integrity (*cough* Susan G. Komen *cough*)

I can’t tell if I like it or not. I feel like Girl About Town is very similar to the lipstick. And I don’t like Mac lipglass. I’ll pass.. Sigh. Wish Mac would start being a bit more creative..

I don’t know why I still get excited over pink lipsticks but I can’t wait to get my hands on these. They’re just so cute! I haven’t really cared for Miley since Hannah Montana but this is for a good cause so I’m all over it. Might get backups if they perform well

MichelleChefNYC Avatar

Not very original, but extremely pretty. I am really turned off by Miley Cyrus and her behavior, and frankly I am rather disappointed in the women they have been picking for Viva Glam lately (Rhianna, Niki Minaj) who aren’t exactly the best role models for young women. I would still buy this, because Viva Glam is such a good cause, but I really wish they would have picked someone else to work with.

ele23 Avatar

How are they bad role models? Just because they both have no problem with showing their bodies…I’m sorry but both of them have taught me to be a better feminists.Nicki who always pushes her fans to be proud of themselves and their bodies and that they can be successful in a male dominated business like her or rihanna who every year gets more and more successful and yeah maybe miley is young and makes mistakes but putting down other women shouldn’t be something that is allowed.

xamyx Avatar

I don’t know much about Nicki Minaj or Rhianna, but Miley is an awesome choice! Not only is she incredibly brilliant in marketing her brand (ummm…, we’re *still* talking about her, LOL!), but she’s one of the most philanthropic celebrities of all time. She donates a very large percentage of her profits to multiple charities, of which she is not otherwise a part of (ie, Lady Gaga), yet she doesn’t go around bragging about it… Aside from RuPaul, Miley was probably the best choice ever for this particular campaign.

BreTheMakeupGeek Avatar

Agree with everything you stated @Ele23 want to add my 2€ I believe both ladies mentioned above stated they aren’t trying to be role models, their bread & butter & livelihood rest on being provocative. Children shouldn’t be looking up to these women but thats a whole another topic. I love MAC’s Viva Glam campaign & the 100% proceeds. Who they choose to represent is fine with me so long its not a rapist, murderer, terrorist. ..ect.

Jordan Avatar

Oh how I wish that lipgloss had been more opaque ;____;
I still want the lipstick…even though I’m SURE I have something like it already….Waiting to see what the dupes are on the list.

Alana Avatar

The lipstick looks pretty similar to Girl About Town, but I’m pretty sure that they’re still different enough to own both. That lipglass looks like something worth checking out though!

Sylirael Avatar

The gloss is very pretty and sparkly, and the lipstick looks nice and pigmented. 🙂 Not perhaps the most…thrilling of releases, given the dupe potential, but the cause is good. I’ll be interested to see the review!

I still don’t associate Miley Cyrus with ‘glam’, no matter how far you stretch the definition of that word…

Alana Avatar

I was hoping that they were going to choose Kelly Osbourne for Viva Glam since she collaborated with them for another collection not too long ago, but I’m not surprised that they chose Miley instead. I wouldn’t associate her with ‘glam’ either but the lipstick and lipglass are look very nice and the proceeds go to charity so I would feel pretty good buying this no matter who the collaborator is!

xamyx Avatar

I would never wear either of these myself, but I’ll probably buy both for my daughter. She loooves bright pink lipstick, and it’s for a good cause, so everyone comes out a winner!

Katherine T. Avatar

lipgloss kind of patchy looking and overpriced compared to lipstick but lipstick looks good, and they look great together. too bright for me but it’s a miley color

Sami Avatar

I’m actually loving this shade. I haven’t been excited for a Viva Glam launch in a while and this color seems like one I’ll actually wear versus the pale nudes and pinks of the recent years. The lipstick will be a must buy for me but I gotta say the lip gloss is definitely not my cup of tea. It looks all glitter with no pigment.

Veronica Avatar

I contribute to the Viva Glam cause by buying Viva Glam V and VI… This color doesn’t look that pretty on me. I will just keep repurchasing the other two when I run out or use them up!

Nicole Avatar

I agree with the other reviewers stating that this is a “pretty” color..nothing spectacular. Pretty though. great cause. I may get one or both for the cause alone based on the reviews. But, Why Miley Cyrus?C’mon Mac..that literally made me cringe. I personally don’t think she should be trying to be a role model at this point..I would have to scrach her name off the packaging.Idk if Ill be able to do it unless the reviews are stellar. Many celebs would have jumped at this opportunity or how about just a different type of woman role model for a change..athlete,entrepreneur, beauty blogger,humanitarian..think out of the box for a good cause.. I think that was a poor choice on their part.

xamyx Avatar

Why not Miley? Before you question the choice, do a bit of research on Miley’s philanthropic endeavors-you may be surprised to find out not only how much money she donates to charity, but also her time.

janechemi Avatar

I would love to see and athlete or entrepreneur as the next face. When I was growing up I didn’t look up to Madonna or Britney Spears. I looked up to michelle Kwan and serena williams. I didn’t really know any business executives’ names but I know I looked up to my mom who ran a little business and did great. That’s a message I’d love to spread to young girls/boys: responsibility, determination and hard work

Mel Avatar

It’s anoying as I actually love that lip and gloss combo and would buy it other than I don’t want anything MIley branded….I’m not a fan

Kate Avatar

I was hoping that the gloss would be a little more vibrant or distinctive on its own. I feel like the last couple of Viva Glam glosses have just been sheer “add-ons” for the lipsticks, rather than standalone pieces. The lipstick looks very nice (although I suspect it’s dupeable, tbd) and the combination is beautiful. Since I almost never wear lipstick + gloss, though, that’s lost on me.

StrangeOne Avatar

Disappointed in the gloss :[ was waiting for some colour. Lipstick is cute but I’ll wait to see your dupe list to see if I have it.

Alla Avatar

Meh. I’ll buy it because it’s Viva Glam, but I can’t help thinking that Mac could definitely have done something way more interesting, especially after releasing a VG shade as original and exciting as Rihanna 2.

Shea Avatar

I actually like this color a lot more than I thought I would, but I think that it would look absolutely terrible on me. I think I’ll pick up the lipglass though.

Brenda Avatar

Unfortunately the lipstick doesn’t look all that original but I DO like the lipglass. It seems to impart decent colour for a gloss and I like the sparkle 🙂

kristina Avatar

its a nice shade, but i feel like we just had a pink viva glam with viva glam nicki. i know its a completely different shade, but i wish they’d do something more different for a viva glam instead of red or pink.

Arielle Avatar

I had almost forgotten that this was coming out with all the collections MAC’s been throwing around past few months for the holiday hype. The pink is very bright yet different enough from the Candy Yum Yum type of neon pink shades that I’m intrigued. Will probably stop by a counter to swatch at least.

Sarah Avatar

I love the lipstick! It looks bright and fun–perfect for spring and summer–and I love that it looks really pigmented. The lipgloss on it’s own looks a little too sheer for me and I’ve never been huge on layering lipstick and gloss.

It always kind of annoys me when people focus on the spokesperson and not the fact that this is a great cause. Definitions of who is/isn’t a good role model are really subjective–the fact that this is an excellent charity is clear and that should be what matters. The money isn’t going to Miley; it’s going to an AIDS foundation. I think it’s great that she’s acting as a spokesperson as it can help make her fans aware of the AIDS pandemic and it’s going to get them to buy the lipstick/gloss which then contributes money! People are always free to dislike/disagree with her antics (and I can be one of them) but she’s not the point of this campaign and it shouldn’t be ignored solely because she’s the face of it.

xamyx Avatar

Besides, even if Miley were paid, she sets aside a percentage of all her earnings to donate to charity, so that would be even *more* money donated!

Laura_Lou Avatar

Not of a fan of the lipgloss but I don’t like sparkles in my lip products. But that lipstick is gorgeous! Such a beautiful, bold, bright pink. Love it!

zoe Avatar

Dupeable (pretty though) but also will sell well I’d say. It’ll definitely sell more than the Rihanna VG as that was an odd colour – as it’s for charity, this is a great thing, more money will be raised. I think some basic shades would be a great idea for the VG line – people would be more inclined to buy them – lovely wearable lipsticks AND the money goes to charity – win, win situation 🙂 Love all my VGs though 🙂

Donna Lee Avatar

I like the photo of the two colors worn together. I might buy this. not that I need another pink, but I do feel good about buying the Viva Glam products.

MelanieB. Avatar

I was going to purchase the lip glass…until I saw that it’s pretty much a clear sparkly lipgloss with a hint of pink. Wow, haven’t seen anything like that before lol.
I’m disappointed. Definitely expected it to be more opaque.
