Bite Beauty Smashed Agave Lip Mask Review, Photos, Swatches
Bite Beauty Smashed Agave Lip Mask
Bite Beauty Smashed Agave Lip Mask ($26.00 for 0.52 oz.) is described as a “universal red-wine tint.” It’s a brightened, cherryr ed with cool undertones that turns to more of a pinky-red color applied to lips. NARS Shade IV (LE, $26.00) is warmer. Josie Maran Always Cherry (P, $18.00) is warmer. NARS Rose Gitane (P, $26.00) is warmer. MAC Wake Up! (P, $22.00) is warmer. MAC Night is Young (LE, $20.00) is similar. MAC Love Alert (LE, $20.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
I haven’t used this extensively (as I would if I was testing a lip balm’s healing/hydrating properties), though I have previously reviewed the original. This is more of a quick review to show how the newest tinted version looks. I think those who were disappointed by the subtle nature of the Champagne version will find this more palatable, as it produces a very noticeable reddish tint to lips. It will be nice for those who have good luck with this formula who want a little more color during the day but need the ultra-hydrating properties of the original. The formula is thicker and heavier, fairly tacky, and the color seems to fade faster than the feel of the balm, where the color seems to disappear after three to four hours, the balm lingers for five to six with some lingering as long as eight hours. The past iterations of this formula have been hydrating for me, and I found this one to feel much like those. The only critique I really have is that it doesn’t always look completely even applied, which is often the nature of sheer, but vibrant, shades like this.

This looks so nice! Between my love for lip balms and for tinted lip treatments for everyday use, I’m dying to try the agave masks, honestly. Really wish Bite would come to Europe.
I hope they expand soon!
I like the original but I hate how the packaging flakes off. It was a MESS in my bag for awhile. I would just see black flakes sitting on the bottom of my purse or makeup bag. It’s almost done completely flaking off which is a good thing I guess:/ but i do like the product itself, just wish they would leave the tube bare or something. Won’t be purchasing again because of that. Great review as always 🙂
Do you have the newer or older packaging? I haven’t experienced that with either, but maybe the new packaging would solve that.
I guess I have the older packaging and I didn’t even know lol I got it shortly after it came out. I’ll have to head to sephora to check it out in person
i have both the new and old packaging. my old one split and i had to depot into a small travel jar (i think i got it at target). it works really well. maybe that would solve your problem. the new packaging is better, but its still not great.
I wasn’t aware there was new packaging 😮 I’ll depot, thank you! I’ll check target out 🙂
Oh, pretty, I like it! I like lip treatments with a hint of color.
Me too!
i’m not too sure any of them are really “lip treatments” or just the same as lip balms…. the whole lip treatment (fresh sugar etc) is just a ploy
That gives a very pretty effect.
I like that it is a very visible effect!
I NEED!!! With all the cute matte lippys I’ve been rocking lately, my lips are begging for mercy! And this looks really pretty while granting ones lips respite!
Awesome! I think it’s great they took their lip balm and added a noticeable tint to it.
Huh, the swatch really does show how it’s not the most even. Thanks for reviewing this! I was wondering about this product; the packaging is really attractive to me for some reason.
No problem, Whitney!
Meh…for $ 26, the color is too sheer and uneven for me. And I don’t like using fingers to apply this to my lips (gross). I can also see myself trying to unscrew the tiny cap and the cap goes flying off onto the dirty floor or behind the refrigerator. If they made this into a convenient twist-up lip balm, with some more pigmentation, I would consider it if it was really hydrating and long-lasting. And it would be great if they also came out with an SPF 15 version for daytime wear.
Interesting! I thought it was quite pigmented, though still translucent – but a lot of noticeable color/tint! Hopefully they’ll add a SPF version!
I want to try these so much! I wish they’d change the packaging to include an applicator tip, though, because applying with my fingers skeeves me out.
Maybe they will!
I absolutely LOVE Bite’s Agave lip mask so I know I will love this too. Onto my “to buy” list it goes!
It’ll be a great addition to your stash 🙂
Love the finish. I always draw towards lipglosses/balms/lipsticks that look like that. My only problem with this it doesnt have lip glide top like Too Face Melted for instance or lipgloss tubes that generally have it. For this you would have to place on your finger and glide. Meh.
I can’t imagine this working with an applicator like the Melted Lipsticks, but maybe a more solid one with a small hole for the product to come through, though I am personally not a fan of that type! 🙁
Current obsession with Bite Beauty….check
Awesome paint-tube packaging giving illusion of artistic leanings…check!
Colour that fits with my thesis *and* looks pretty on…check!
Long-standing obsession with lip balm…check!
Might have to add this to my Bite list… 😀
I think you’d like it!
Oh I like that. I wish they would make a mini in a lip gloss container 🙁
Aw!
Glad to see this new color would be great for day wear. I love the Agave Lip Mask so much that I apply a thick layer of it on my lips every night before sleep. It heals my lips nicely no matter what condition my lips were in before the application.. I’m now half tube down with the Champagne one. Can’t wait to get Smashed for a new look!
Happy to hear that the Lip Masks have worked so well on your lips, Fuji!
This is right up my alley color and formula-wise, but it is at a price point that I’m a bit uncomfortable with for tinted lip balms.
Oh, that’s too bad! Hopefully you can find a good dupe!
Thank you for reviewing this, Christine! I’ve been on the fence about whether or not to purchase it for about a week now, & the only reason I haven’t purchased is mainly because of the color, & a little because of the lack of reviews to reference on Sephora’s site. I really love my Fresh lip balms, but I fly through the lighter colored ones like Rosé, so I was looking for something longer lasting & thought this might work…
In your opinion, which is longer lasting & more hydrating, this Smashed Agave Lip Mask, or Josie Maran’s Creamy Infinity Oil (used only on the lips)?
I’m a dummy! Nvm, I’ll just look at your review for Josie’s Argan Infinity & compare to this one. & on a serious note, thank you for reviewing this (& everything!), I really appreciate your reviews, they really make or break a lot of my personal/gift makeup purchases!
You RAWK!
🙂
I didn’t have good luck with Josie Maran’s lip oils – very emollient, shorter-wearing, and not that hydrating (for me) 🙁
Ty! You nailed that! I tried a sample of the Infinity Argan from last night, & found myself feeling like I needed to put more on after a very short time period (like a half hour!). I can’t even imagine putting it on my cheeks! I’m going to try this Smashed Agave “Mask”, Ty again!
Oh wow! This looks lovely! I’m on a drugstore kick now, but if this will work well to rehab my lips when needed I can totally justify buying this 🙂 The colour really looks lovely. I can deal with a bit of unevenness if the formula is good.
I recently got the clear version of this and I’m over the moon. Best lip product I’ve tried since I fell in love with Dior lip glow!
Pretty, but why would they put it in a tube?
Monica.
I love the shade of this! But the original Bite Agave Lip Mask made my lips crack and peel like crazy. I have super sensitive lips, I guess, so I’ll have to pass this up. 🙁
Even though I usually only wear this to bed, this red tint would be perfect for winter as I find myself using it more often during the day. And I’m almost out of mine! Perfect timing!
This looks good and I like the reddish tint it imparted to lips..
I like such tinted lip balms.. moisturizing with a dose of color.. 🙂
Ah so pretty <3
Always love lip balm with colors. Moreover if it works well since I have really dry lips. Unfortunately, sephora in my country doesn't carry bite beauty. Hope it will, soon.
Wow it’s a lot more pigmented than I thought it would be. I’m fine with the original though so I can pass on this. I really wish Bite would change the applicator though. I love that they changed the metal tubes but these are still hard to apply without a brush or using your fingers
i think the whole “lip MASK” is just marketing its just a regular balm
I love the original and decided I’m going to pick this up during the Spring VIB sale this month! My lips get so chapped lately if I don’t wear a good lip balm and this is the best, and the red tint makes it perfect for daytime! I find it a little misleading/surprising that they used artificial red coloring (Red lake) instead of some sort of natural pigment since this line is all about being organic, natural, and food grade… but I will let that slide. I’m guessing any natural pigments wouldn’t mix as smoothly with the thick formula. I’ve noticed my lips almost get so used to the original though, that when I stop using it daily they get really super dry :-/
I hope this works for you, Annie!
