Kat Von D Thin Lizzy Studded Kiss Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches
Kat Von D Thin Lizzy Studded Kiss Lipstick
Kat Von D Thin Lizzy Studded Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “sparkling brick copper.” It’s a lightly brightened, copper-red with gold and copper sparkle. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Manhunter (P, $18.00) is brighter, more orange. Kat Von D Gothica (P, $21.00) is lighter, browner. Milani Bronze Beauty (P, $5.49) is lighter, more orange, less red. Givenchy Rouge d’Exception (308) (LE, $36.00) has less shimmer, brighter. NARS Moscow (P, $26.00) has less shimmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Let us rejoice for a moment, because Thin Lizzy had a lightly creamy consistency that applied evenly, smoothly, and didn’t tug or drag on the lips. It isn’t a slippery feeling, so it still retains a mostly matte finish on the lips, but it is comfortable to wear and isn’t a struggle to apply. It had good color coverage, and though it says “sparkling,” it is a finer shimmer that is less present than some of the other more metallic/frosted shades in the range. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours, and it was neither drying nor hydrating over time.

I love this burnt red color! My only gripe is the shimmer overload!
Aww, bummer!
Happy to see one that’s not as drying as the other one’s you reviewed from this line!
Me too!
It reminds me of a slightly darker and more orange version of a Lush liquid lipstick I have.
Ooh, nice!
Yay!!! I’m actually relieved that at least one was good!
You & me both!
LOL @ “Let us rejoice for a moment”. Talk about a hit or miss collection. Thin Lizzy is very pretty and I’ll check it out next time I’m at Sephora.
So hit or miss, unfortunately!
I gotta agree – I have this one and I love it too!! Yes let’s rejoice lol!!
Yay!!
Huzzah! I think this colour looks nice on you, too 🙂 And now let me be picky, and grumble about the fact that this pleasantly ‘high’ ranking KvD Studded Kiss lipstick is not really the colour for me 😛 I guess in a way I should thank this line for only really tempting me with one (Poe) so far, given how much of a lipstick fanatic I am! 😀
Poe is the only one I’d buy again at this point. Oh, Adora, too.
This looks pretty, and wearable on you. I don’t have the guts to wear red lipstick.
Thank you, Staci!
Aww, you should give it a try! Maybe just around the house 🙂
I think this type of shade is a nice “gateway” color to red! It’s vibrant, but not as bold as a true red, making it more wearable, IMO.
This looks like a gorgeous holiday lipcolor! I might actually have to add this one to my wishlist (:
It could be! 🙂
That’s lovely! But it looks close to Viva Glam Rihanna so I’m not too tempted.
Your wallet is happy!
I am ridiculously happy that you (comparatively) liked this one. On the one hand, as you always kindly point out when you reply to people, none of us should need validation just to enjoy something we love. On the other hand, as one after another of her brethren have been felled, I come to feel very protective of Thin Lizzy, and hoped for a good outcome for her so that some of your readers might be moved to try.
Fair/light redheads, I’m looking at you. This shade is *killer* on us.
🙂 Well, I’m glad this one worked out for both of us!
Well, statistically, it’s about time for something other than an F or a D…
True!
This looks great on you, way to warm for me but what a fun color. Very glitzy!
I like the finish!
I was afraid to get this one because I didn’t like all the glitter in Gothica, and I felt like its base color didn’t have good coverage. So is this formula closer to Adora than Gothica?
Closer to Adora than Gothica, but it does have more distinct shimmer than Adora!
I really like this color on you!
Thanks, Fancie! 🙂
Well, I’m glad this one had a good rating otherwise she’d be failing Thin Lizzy. Don’t bring down the band with a terrible lipstick, KVD!
So true!
On the one hand, I’m sooo happy this one is actually quite decent; on the other, I’m still sorely disappointed that the shades I was actually interested in are so horrible… The color is very pretty, and wearable, but just not “me”.
Do you think you’ll try them in-store at all, Amy?
Finally..a good grade!! However, the color isn’t for me..
Totally understand that! It’s not a color that I see being universally appealing.
Why couldn’t the black have this formula… *extreme sad face*
Maybe the brand just wanted to save us money 🙁
This is pretty, but i thought it’d be shimmerier. This does look like an excellent everyday colour. Very wearable. I love how it looks on you.
I do think I prefere Gothica, though for the glittery shimmer 🙂
Thank you, Helene!
i bought this because of you christine!
Aw <3
Love the colour – it looks really lovely on you Christine.
Aw, thanks Genevieve!
This shade looks so promising though I don’t know how you pull it off! It would look as good on me for sure!
You’re too sweet 🙂 Thanks!
Now that is a shade of orange I think I could actually wear. It’s gorgeous! I’m so glad to hear that it performs decently.
LOL! Sad that “decently” is the new good for this formula.
Glad to see this one had a better result than the last few disappointing lipsticks from Kat Von D. There is a brand in Australia and New Zealand called Thin Lizzy that makes concealers and foundation (mostly designed to be thick and cover tattoos) and when I saw this review I briefly thought you were reviewing something from them and was quite surprised! haha
How funny! Have you tried Thin Lizzy’s products before?
No I haven’t they’re very very thick and don’t imagine they would work too well with my skin. It’s an extremely popular brand though!
Love the color! Finally one that doesn’t disappoint 😛
It was a relief!
