NARS Fanny, Vera, Charlotte, Audrey, Anna Audacious Lipsticks
Next up, five of the more berry-hued shades from the new NARS Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) formula. You can see reviews for other shades here. I almost have the next set of five finished for testing (these deeper shades wear long-er-I’m lucky to test two shades in a day!), so stay tuned for the rest of the reviews. Thank you for your patience!
NARS Fanny Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “rich berry.” It’s a cool-toned, medium-dark berry pink with a soft sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly. The color wore well for six hours and was neither drying nor hydrating on me. NARS Janet (P, $32.00) is brighter, shimmery. Givenchy Framboise Velours (315) (LE, $36.00) is warmer. MAC Splurge (LE, $22.00) is sheerer. Marc Jacobs Beauty Headliner (608) (P, $28.00) is redder. Too Faced Melted Berry (P, $21.00) is darker. YSL Forbidden Burgundy (12) (P, $34.00) is darker. Revlon Plum Velour (P, $7.99) is sheerer. Marc Jacobs Beauty Seduce Me (128) (P, $30.00) is slightly brighter. MAC Rebel (P, $16.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Vera Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “bright raspberry.” It’s a berry pink with subtle, warm undertones and a soft sheen. It had good color coverage with smooth, even application. The color stayed on well for five and a half hours while staining. I didn’t find it drying or hydrating while worn. Givenchy Framboise Velours (315) (LE, $36.00) is cooler-toned, lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Headliner (608) (P, $28.00) is brighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Cabaret (146) (LE, $30.00) is more muted. Too Faced Melted Berry (P, $21.00) is cooler-toned. YSL Exquisite Plum (22) (P, $34.00) is similar. Guerlain Madame Batifole (860) (LE, $51.00) is brighter, more shimmery. Marc Jacobs Beauty Seduce Me (128) (P, $30.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Charlotte Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “oxblood burgundy.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark red with subtle cool undertones. It looks almost warm on me, though it swatches with a cool, pink undertone. It had mostly opaque color payoff, but the consistency is a little thinner with a touch more slip than other shades. The color lasted for six hours and was neither hydrating nor drying. Urban Decay Mrs. Mia Wallace (LE, $22.00) is brighter. MAC Roxo (LE, $16.00) is more muted. Urban Decay Gash (LE, $22.00) is similar. Chanel La Desiree (327) (LE, $34.00) is more matte, brighter. MAC Just a Bite (LE, $16.00) is similar. NARS Mascate (P, $26.00) is more matte. Make Up For Ever #48 (P, $19.00) is more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Audrey Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “red currant.” It’s a muted, warm-toned reddish-plum with a luminous finish. It had full color coverage, and it applied beautifully for an even, smooth result. On me, the color wore well for five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. The muted quality to the color made it more unique. Urban Decay Manic (P, $22.00) is more shimmery, brighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
NARS Anna Audacious Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “smokey rose.” It’s a cool-toned, muted, medium-dark pink with a semi-matte finish. It had full color coverage, which applied fairly well, but I felt like the consistency was a bit drier than other shades in the formula, so it didn’t leave lips looking as smooth. The color wore well for four hours, but it was somewhat drying. Buxom Centerfold (LE, $21.00) is warmer, lighter. Chanel Rendez-vous (87) (P, $34.00) is brighter, sheerer. MAC Please Me (P, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Hot Gossip (P, $16.00) is more shimmery, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Every single one of these looks amazing on you!!!!! I’m so impressed with this line – I have no idea how I’m going to choose one or two though!!
Thank you, Michelle!
Love Audrey – looks great on you! Vera is nice too.
Thanks! 🙂
In your lip swatches, you always show two pictures. What is the difference? One swipe vs. two? Flash vs. no flash?
The first is direct light, the second is indirect, diffused light.
Fanny and Vera both remind me a lot of Jolie Poupée, a color that I’m wearing a lot lately!
Ooh, nice!
These are so pretty.
Glad you liked ’em!
Can you compare Fanny, Vera to Vivien?
Vivien is darker, cooler-toned, more muted.
Can this formula be applied more sheerly but still look even? I love the hues of these bolder shades but I am not accustomed to leading my look with my lips.
I like to take some Laura Mercier Lip Silk first, let it sit for awhile. Then use a fluffy brush (lMAC 224) to buff some colour on my lips. It looks so airbrushed, even, and more sheer. But some lipsticks don’t lend well to applying lightly, no matter what the technique. They apply splotchy, grainy a few minutes later, or emphasis everything wrong with my lip texture.
I don’t think it will turn grainy, but these have enough thickness and not as much slip that it’s not one I’d go to for more buildable color.
more or less built up colour? I was hoping to sheer them out. Thanks for your help :))
I’m saying if you want to build up color, I wouldn’t go for NARS Audacious Lipstick. They are one-stroke, full color coverage! I don’t think this is a formula that really sheers out that well other than blotting, but between the texture and intense color payoff, I just think there are a lot of other formulas that would do better for you 🙂
thanks so much Christine!
That application technique sounded bonkers so I tried it. I actually really like it for lip tars! Thanks!
Now I have to try Lip Tars! I never was drawn to them because of their opacity but if my method works then I’ll pick up a few this week. Thanks so much Jennifer!
Audrey is really darker than I expected. When I heard Audrey, I expected some bright/light red like Dragon Girl matte lip pencil!
I was surprised not to see a red in the line like Dragon Girl!
I got Charlotte and Vivien. I love the shades so much. My only complaint is that after few hours my lips get a tad dry. But then I’m used to wear more sheer lipsticks. I found mine by accident at Sephora, though officially Sephora still doesn’t sell them. Glad I did, for I don’t buy from Nars website at all.
Btw…on me Charlotte looks definitely cool. Extremely cool. But then I have neutral to cool undertone… Maybe is that?
It could be! It has a cool undertone to me, but it isn’t extremely cool (in the tube, swatched, or on me – usually the latter is where my skin tone makes more of a difference).
Glad you’re loving yours, Andrea!
Hi christine, how does charlotte compares to mac diva??
Diva is darker, more matte, warmer.
These are just gorgeous (and on you). The colors are so rich but flattering. I got Audrey and it was more red on me. Indeed, I’ve found the colors on me to be different from on you or other online photos I find. Not a lot different but enough to be noticeable. Given the opaqueness and great coverage I was very surprised. I do love them but wonder if others are having the same experience?
I think this set might be my favorite so far. Just beautiful. Can’t wait to see the reds!!!!
Is it brighter on you or redder? Audrey is like a soft red to me.
Redder. I was so surprised I really studied it (asking myself if I’m crazy or not). I think soft red is a good description.
Charlotte and Audrey look beautiful for fall/holidays, both colours really suit you as well Christine, beautiful!
Thanks, Kimmy!
I need these lipsticks to stop being so damn pretty.
I think it’s the finish that helps!
I probably could skip Fanny if I bought Janet.. They seem close enough.
The major difference is whether you prefer shimmer!
Those all look marvelous, but I’m keen on Fanny and Audrey. Fanny is so similar to one of the new LeRouge shades for fall, but pinker.. I may have to pick it up despite the similarity. Audrey looks a little more unique from my stash standpoint.
Audrey seemed more unique to me, too!
I’m absolutely loving these lipsticks, there isn’t a single colour I looked at and thought “hmm, i wouldn’t wear this”. literally gorgeous! Anna is especially lovely in this post.
It seems like this line is going to do well!
I was hoping my favorite, Anna, would score better. Still going to get it, though, it’s my favorite color of the whole collection!
Enjoy, Alix! 🙂
I love how all of these look on you Christine! Vera and Charlotte are definitely on my list!
Thank you, Divya! 🙂
Charlotte looks amazing on you! It kind of reminds me of buxom menace? Maybe a little warmer? Which I think was my all time favorite lipstick on you! I wish I felt more comfortable in dark shades….but with fair skin, & full lips, I feel like I’m just screaming MOUTH when I wear them!
I kind of feel like if you’re not used to bolder shades on, it does feel like you lead with your mouth (fair or not). I used to feel that way for sure in reds and whatnot! After wearing blue around town, well, one moves on, lol!
All of these look gorgeous on you! They are definitely your colors 🙂 I am really loving the colors from this collection!
Thank you so much, Ashley!
You look beautiful in all of these shades. I really like Fanny and Vera on you!
Aw, thanks Fancie! xo
I didn’t think I’d like Charlotte based on the arm swatch, but applied on the lips, it makes me want to try it! I also need Anna…
Worth trying at least 🙂
Finally a lipstick line that is proving itself to be a consistently good formula that I can get and test easily in the UK! Hurrah!
Also, I would love a lipstick called ‘Fanny’ since that would be absolutely hilarious to my friends (it means something else here…).
As soon as these find their way to counters here I will be running down and trying THEM ALL!
Can’t wait for them to arrive in the UK so you can try ’em, Alison!
What is going on with these lipsticks?! How are they ALL so gorgeous?? There’s not a dud in the bunch!
Haha!
I love the look of Audrey! Lately, I’m trying to branch out into deeper, more standout lipsticks (for example, I recently purchased Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy in Envious), and Audrey looks perfect for that, but still very wearable!
I really like Audrey!
All gorgeous, again! Fanny and Charlotte are my favorites, but I really like them all.
Audrey and Anna were colors that I really liked from this set!
Anna is my favourite of the bunch! I wonder why NARS selected these names only 🙂 Love the collection Christine!
I believe they’re after famous actresses 🙂
I want Fanny & Charlotte.
Good picks, Melanie!
Love love love Charlotte and Audrey. Will probably get both. Anna looks like a dupe for Mac Pink Plaid.
Hope you love Charlotte & Audrey!
I just knew that looking at this post would be my doom. Really, I already figured from the swatches in your gallery that I knew I wanted Audrey (Manic is one of my favourite lipsticks, so I love the idea of having something close but different), Vera (although I have many similar…) and Charlotte. Looking through this, I think I want all of these shades. I’m so excited for these to launch that I’m worried I’m going to be at a counter September 1st looking like the Cookie Monster, but with lipsticks…
LOL! ME LOVE LIPSTICKS.
I like Anna out of this set. it seems like a pink that could actually work with my skintone.
I hope it does!
I really like all of these shades, particularly Anna and Charlotte. (Yay, some cooler ones!) I’ll have to give them a look in stores.
Right? Finally… slightly cool shades, lol!
Thank you so much for these reviews. Gorgeous colors. You’re a real trooper.
My pleasure, Anne! xo
NARS released way too many beautiful colours in this Audacious Lipstick release… my bank account is crying tears of sadness while I’m crying tears of bittersweetness as I’m ordering 9 of these because I have no self control. None. Laura does not possess self control.
They sure did a whopper! 40!
These are all so pretty and you look so beautiful here Christine!
Thank you, Melanie!
these look wonderful on you christine! unfortunately, my coloring is very different. but you look so good in these that i think i will go swatch them ASAP, just in case.
I look forward to hearing if you pick up any, Anne!
I actually got Audrey and it looks SO different on me than it does on Christine. I am NC20-25 in Mac and Audrey looks very deep on me. Still gorgeous though 🙂
I have a few dupes on your lists, but I’m really loving Charlotte!
It’s a pretty shade!
These are ALL so beautiful that I want them all but Audrey is the one I want most. And I will get one for my daughter as well (her love of Audrey Hepburn is of long duration and this is a colour that she could wear so well). So, 2 Audreys and a Vivian coming up for me!
I really like Audrey and Vivien a lot myself.
Really like the Audrey Audacious and Vera Audacious on you!
Thank you!
All of them so gorgeous. I will have so much trouble trying to chose just one or two , or even three. I’m having such a Pokemin moment looking at these lipsticks, I really want them all. Not just the five here, I want all of them.
Maybe I should stay a long way from Sephora.
Thankfully they are permanent so you can play and debate and agonize over your choices!
I like Fanny, Vera, Audrey and Anna – I can’t quite decide how those last two would show up on my skintone, but I’ve had my eyeball on them from the start! 😀
Beautifully, duh!
Aww! *blush* 😀
Goodness, NARS really nailed it with these!!! It’s tough to decide which ones to get, I WANT THEM ALL!!! I did decide to start with two of the colors I found most unique, Liv and Deborah.
That’s a good idea! I’d definitely look for unique shades and/or unique to your stash.
Seriously I want every one of these. If I had to pick only one I’d go for Charlotte. It one of those lipsticks that almost reads warm but is just cool enough for me to pull it off successfully!
Woohoo! 🙂
Which one do you prefer between Audrey and Vera?
I can’t decide between them, but I’m little more attracted to Audrey because it looks more unique!
I like Audrey, but that’s just a personal preference since I liked the more muted quality of it!
Oh Lord. Anna looks glorious. No, it actually looks perfect. Those dirty pinks are all I’m craving these days. If only it weren’t for the $32 price tag…
I love a good neutral-ish pink!
Thank you for your amazing reviews!
Could you please tell me, is the shade ‘Anna’ somewhat similar to MAC Gem of Roses or Chanel Rouge Coco Mademoiselle?
Anna is cooler-toned than both, IMO!
Thank you for the swatches! I bought audrey because I loved the muted quality of the lipstick as well–but it seemed to make my teeth look yellow! Do you have this problem? 🙁
