The Scarlet Season: Urban Decay Gravity Lipstick

Urban Decay Gravity Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a rich, ruby-esque shade of red with maybe a little tinge of raspberry in it. It has a very soft microsparkle of red, but overall, it has a creamy, glossy finish. All of Urban Decay’s lipsticks have a faint sweetened caramel brulee kind of scent, though I don’t find much taste in the lipsticks from my experience. Gravity applies easily and leaves lips hydrated, with the color wearing four to six hours easy. I’d say this is definitely one of my favorite shades I’ve discovered so far during the series.

What about you? Would you wear this red?

The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

i love urban decay lipsticks i have midnight cowboy and use timothy pocket over it and it gives a nice beigy brown shade! do you have any more urban deacy reviews in the pipeline ?? Binnie X

Why do all of the Urban Decay lipsticks have to be so pretty? Lol, I have a sample of Gash (which I love) but I don’t know if I want to shell out $22 a lipstick. Plus, I dont like the little dagger at the bottom of the tube. But this color, Revolution, Sellout, and Jilted are sooo pretty that I would never be able to choose just one!

LOL! Maybe because they totally reformulated and went back to the drawing board–at least in a sense–a few years ago!

I think the dagger is fun at first, but it’s impractical. You can’t stand it up so you can see the name (which is on the “top” of the lipstick–the flat side), and you can’t stand it up on the dagger… eh it’s pretty or creative but not so functional!

Okay, so I’ve seen two reviews of this color on youtube now, I wasn’t able to swatch it at my Sephora since it was out for the tester and they didn’t have it in stock. But, people complained about Gravity having a weird, bitter taste, did you notice that at all?

Christine Avatar

I didn’t notice any particularly off taste, to be honest, but I don’t really lick my lips a lot either, you know? I generally don’t even know what a lipstick/gloss tastes like… unless I review it, because then I try to make sure I “taste” it at least once.

I bought it but unfortunately what looked like a beautiful red on my computer turned out to be more burgundy when I received it. I can still make it work though by layering a lighter gloss over it. The shade it ok if you are into the dark shades but it’s not what I consider “red.” If you are looking for Christmas/Santa Claus red I’d take a pass on this one.

I didn’t notice any strange taste like someone mentioned.
