Marc Jacobs Beauty (Stone)Fox (58) Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($25.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “metal grey.” It’s a medium-dark, warm-toned gray with a metallic, silver sparkle and sheen. It had so-so color payoff in a single stroke, and it was buildable to mostly opaque color payoff. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on my lash line. Buxom I’ll Be Waiting (P, $17.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Uzi (P, $19.00) is less shimmery. Chanel Gris Scintillante (P, $29.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Marc Jacobs Beauty (Luna)Tic (64) Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($25.00 for 0.01 oz.) is described as a “metallic pale lavender.” It’s a cool-toned, gray-ish lavender with a metallic sheen. It was semi-sheer applied in a single pass and buildable to semi-opaque color. This particular shade works well for brightening the eye. It lasted for just over eight and a half hours on me. MAC Heirloom (P, $16.00) is less metallic. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I have a love/hate relationship with this formula (see my original review here). I often reach for Marc Jacobs’ eyeliners, because there’s just something slightly unique about the shade range, and despite them not performing well on paper, I still like them a lot personally. Both shades have a creamy, glide-on consistency that doesn’t pull or tug at the lash line, but they’re not exactly “richly pigmented” as described. They build, and once on the lash line, even semi-opaque looks almost opaque unless you’re viewing it very close-up (which no one is), but for the price point (and how little you get–0.01 oz. and these twist-up, no sharpening required), I wish they were as pigmented as they’re supposed to be.

I have a love/hate relationship with the only one I own…black. It’s one of a few brands that stay on my watery waterline. I also use it to tight line, which is fine. My hate is that you can not touch up without removing what is left on the waterline. But, the colors are so pretty.

(Stone)fox looks pretty! I was actually interested in (Luna)tic when I saw the new shades up at sephora.com, but it didn’t seem lavender-y in your swatch… Maybe I should try finding a store that carries the new shades already in my area.

Oh I love love love these!! I actually like semi opaque color for my lower lash line…current faves are UD’s Mushroom & Ether…how would tou say these compare to those shades? Worth having the Marc Jacobs liners, too? Thank you so much!

$25.00 for 0.01 oz means $2,500.00 for 1 oz, which means this so-so performing eyeliner is more expensive than gold. i really think i’d rather have the gold for the price. this is really kind of ridiculous.

Oh, (Luna)tic is such an otherworldly complex shade! I adore it so much!!!! Wow! They are both gorgeous, though I’m lemming for the (Luna)tic ! Christine, could you please delve more deeply, beyond the afire mentioned link, about your relationship with these? I’ve never tried one. I’m curious to hear your encouragement and discouragement due to your honesty. Thank you! <3 XOXO

I think the fact you reach for them outweighs the negative, yes? 😉 something about them makes you love them! Are you going to review the other new colors as well? I’d love to see them!

What do you think the *ultimate* smooth long lasting bright color eye liners (pencil/crayon/non-liquid) are? Brand, etc. Thanks! I have to change routine due to getting glasses… Grrrrrr 😎
