What’s Swatch Saturday? I can’t always review products with full, in-depth reviews, but sometimes, I can at least give you photos and swatches, and then also provide a link to dupes and comparisons for those interested! This also helps us to build up our Swatch Gallery and add even more entries to The Dupe List, which can be helpful to readers at any point.

I have Print. It does not perform well on me at all. 🙁
Mine’s a little powdery… almost crumbly? in a way. You can kind of see it in the swatch!
such a treasure
Glad it’s helpful, Ailla!
I really really like Nehru, I might get it soon.
And as pretty as the velvet finish ones look, they’re really difficult to handle. I have beauty marked, and it’s gorgeous to look at but, I rarely get the red glitter onto the brush.
I agree – I’m not keen on a lot of these “matte with sparkle” kind of shades, because it’s 99% matte eyeshadow, 1% sparkle and 0.01% gets on your lid.
I have soot and it’s great Iove it!
YAY! What do you like to wear it with?
I like to pair it with star violet for a reddish plum smokey eye!
Soot is going on my wishlist! It looks lovely! However, I have to say I expected more for carbon, guess ill stick to my two black eyeshadow loves by saucebox and sugarpill.
Pass on Carbon for sure!
Ooo… I like all of these except Black Tied, especially Nehru!
Why is it so difficult to make black eyeshadows with glitter in them that are pigmented and don’t instantly lose all their glitter when you take some out of the pan? I think the only ones that’ve ever impressed me in that respect are Chanel Mirifique and Miss Sparkles from the Too Faced Pretty Rebel palette – and I couldn’t afford to get either when I had the chance, dammit! 😛
Chanel Mirifique is definitely the best, if not one of the best, for black+silver sparkle.
I have print and typographic. Print is just okay, not as sketchy as your swatch here, but I wouldn’t recommend it either. Typographic, on the other hand, is one of my favourite matte greys. Love it!
Typographic is amazing!
I love Typographic. It’s so versatile. I have Soot too but don’t use it often enough. I need to find some looks to combine it with.
What’s your favorite pairing with Typographic?
I don’t like the formula of mac’s darker mattes! I have such bad luck with it.
Aww! That’s too bad 🙁 Some of them work for me, some don’t.
Nehru looks pretty nice! Black Tied looks awful though lol
Black Tied is a sad little eyeshadow.
The perfect compact little review. <3
I can’t tell you how glad I was when I gave away Black Tied. So dry and gritty. D:
LOL! One of MAC’s worst eyeshadows, IMO, and that’s not even a “oh, quality has changed” kind of statement. I didn’t like it almost ten years ago!
I liked MAC Nehru and MAC print the most…:-)
Yay!
Personally I don’t find that Carbon transfers onto the eye very black at all.
It’s more of a medium black – it’s not a super, deep dark black.
Wow, my Black Tied isn’t that patchy at all…. o_0
Mine feels like trying to squeeze water out of a rock, most of the time.
I can’t use eyeliner, whether pencil or liquid (thank you allergies), so I use Typographic with a dry angled brush for liner. I don’t like stark black, so it makes the perfect liner for me–dark but not harsh.
So glad it works well for lining!
The only one of these I own is Black Tied, and I don’t think I ever realized how bad the quality was until I saw your swatch haha. But that being said, I hardly ever use black eye shadow.
lol!
Nehru? Like the first Prime Minister of India? Okaaaaay…yeah, I know he popularized a style of jacket, but it wasn’t a particular color. LOL, MAC, what?
Not sure if that’s where it came from, honestly!
I own Print and it’s my HG shadow I use to line my eyes for a soft look. It’s a wonderful soft black with grey hues. I didn’t know it had fine shimmer in it until your swatch! I had to take mine out and look lol
A lot of eyeshadows are like that – tiny flecks of shimmer in the pan but nowhere to be seen applied!
I never realized BT was so sheer…
Mine is horrible!
