YSL Rose Frivole (02) Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Review, Photos, Swatches
YSL Rose Frivole (2) Baby Doll Kiss & Blush
YSL Rose Frivole (02) Baby Doll Kiss & Blush ($40.00 for 0.33 fl. oz.) is a medium, rosy pink with subtle cool undertones and a satin finish. It applies slightly lighter than it appears in the bottle or heavily swatched. Milani Tea Rose (08) (LE, $7.99) is a powder. Sleek MakeUP Macaroon (P) is lighter but appears similar applied. Tarte Fearless (P, $26.00) is lighter, powder. Illamasqua Peaked (P, $26.00) is cooler-toned. Chanel Fantastic (66) (LE, $38.00) is brighter. NYX Desert Rose (P, $5.00) is more shimmery, powder. Illamasqua Seduce (P, $26.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes. (Here are some lip color comparisons.)
I reviewed the newer Baby Doll Kiss & Blush previously, and after being impressed with the first two I bought, I picked up another to try. Rose Frivole was almost as nice as the first two, but it was less comfortable to wear as a lip color–it felt a little drier and more clingy, so it was less forgiving and less flattering applied on the lips. It wasn’t drying, though, which is still a bonus, as most lip-and-cheek products excel on one area but not the other. The consistency is thin, a little velvety and gel-like, and it dries down to a more powder-like finish and texture after twenty to thirty seconds. You have enough time to work the product into the skin, but it doesn’t look too dewy or luminous, as it ends up more of a satin-matte finish on the skin. This shade lasted for four and a half hours on my lips and nine hours on my cheeks–it also left a very slight stain on my cheeks after I removed it. It has a sweet, mango and grape scent but no discernible taste.

Very pretty!
Glad you liked it, Melinda!
Such a pretty colour in the bottle! like you said doesn’t apply the same. I don’t see the thinking behind this launch somehow!
I really like the formula in general, though 🙂
Rose frivole is pretty! I like it on you both as lip color and blush!
Thanks Vineetha!
Too bad it’s more drying, it’s a very nice Barbie pink without being to yellow or candy colored!
I wish it was better too!
The finish is very interesting on the lips. I haven’t decided yet whether I like it or not 😉 But on the cheeks I think it looks lovely.
I liked it better on cheeks for my skin tone!
Ohh how pretty! I would totally wear it!
Yay!!
Reminds me of the Clarins gloss from a couple of years ago in a very similar type of packaging and a very similar colour. It was LE but I was lucky enough to nab it. I don’t understand why they didn’t keep it as it was lovely.
So many of the best things are LE 🙁
Off-topic, but are these earrings meant to look like the Temptalia logo? They look amazing!
Yes! My mom had them custom made and gifted them to my at Christmas!
I meant to ask you about those earrings when you mentioned them in the past. So gorgeous!
First off, your earrings are too cool! And, this product looks awesome! I think I prefer it in this packaging than how MAC’s Casual Colors are packaged.
Thank you!
A b it too light for me on the lips, but I love it as a blush, and you look just so beautiful Christine, as always 🙂 I really need to get me some of these YSL Kiss & Blush/Lacquer stains!
Thanks so much, Sylirael! Any particular shade you’re eyeing?
Ohgodallofthem…
Hm, maybe the classic red and one of the corals? I really need to do some swatching, actually, but the kiss and blush stuff isn’t here yet…
Pretty in Pink, Christine! I’m not giving in to these! I can resist!
Resist!!
The colour is very pretty although I’m less of a matt lipstick lover these days and so prefer it on the cheeks instead. I’ve got enough blushers as it is tho’. Might skip this one.
I’m sure you have something similar enough that you can easily skip!
I hope you will review more of these! They’re almost $50 CAD so I really need to see in-depth reviews like yours before buying!
I only bought a couple more, but I don’t think I’ll get any additional ones after that! They are pricey!
I can see how this is picking up your lip texture a bit..so on me this would be a no go. I’ve had Illamasqua Peaked on my wishlist forever. Might have to put the pin in that one.
I had higher hopes that it wouldn’t, but it wasn’t a total shock since the lighter colors tend to do this (across brands/formulas)!
This colour is absolutely stunning – I love the balanced pink in this 🙂 On the cheeks, it looks amazing!!
I loved the color on cheeks, too!
Very pretty! and LOVE your earings!
Thanks, Nia!
Beautiful colour!
Glad ya liked it, Rikki!
This mat pink is so pretty !!!
I was interested by it.
Thank you for your honest review.
Does it sit well under a hydrating gloss ?
Or after a lip balm or something like the Sérum rouge from Dior.
Wish you a lovely weekend,
Xoxo
I haven’t tried it with gloss – I generally test products alone, not in combination with other things (as those affect the longevity, texture, etc.).
this colour is really pretty
It is!
I couldn’t pull this off but it is so pretty on you!!
Aww, thank you!
I’m not completely sold on this, but maybe it’s the shade I’m not feeling.
It’s a harder shade to wear, I think!
I agree that not all colours in the formula work out as well on the lips. I bought rose epicurean (a beautiful lavender-pink-nude that I can just barely pull off with very dramatic eyes!) and just couldn’t stand the way it felt as a lip product — it was so very dry and clingy that I’ve relegated it to “cheek product only.” But I’m so happy I read your review of fuschia desinvolte: I bought it after reading how comfortable you found it, and I agree that it feels fantastic as a lip product: it’s been one of my favourite things to wear all spring. Here’s hoping that YSL brings out more colours that work as nicely as fuschia desinvolte!
It is interesting how some work well on lips, others don’t!
