The Scarlet Season: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick
The Scarlet Season: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a vibrant, true red with a creamy texture, glossy finish, and goes on opaque with little fuss. It applies surprisingly smooth and easily, without any feathering or bleeding from the get-go (but as with any red lipstick or gloss, I always recommend a lip liner for secure color). This is a shade that doesn’t run too blue or too orange, though if pressed, I’d consider it a blue-red. I love the glossiness of the finish, because it almost looks like you’ve already topped it with clear gloss.
The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

ow! that’s a hot colour! I think I may need it in my life. O_O
Haha! Revolution is definitely a standout red!
I sorta wish UD lipsticks didn’t taste like crap on a cracker though. 🙁
LOL! I didn’t notice any taste issues, they just smell like a slightly toasted caramel to me.
I wonder if it would look right on all skin tones.. mmmmm will have to test.
Definitely let me know what you think, Emm!
That is such a gorgeous color but i am afraid of reds…i love urban decay lipsticks!
Don’t be!! Wear them around the house to get used to them 😀
I need a red lip stick, help me out Christine which one should I get? I’m nc40, this one or russian red from Mac?
thanks!
I actually like this one a bit more 🙂
That is such a beautiful color. Good shine too.
Glad ya liked it, Erin!
wow, that’s really pretty.. but I’m still getting used to my Ruby Woo so I need to chill out before I go buy another red lol
Ooh, Ruby Woo! That is a bright one 😉
If applied with a brush do you think it would be a little less opaque?
I mean, is the color buildable?
With a brush, maybe slightly, but it’s a pretty opaque shade from the get-go. You could blot or kiss the back of your hand for a sheerer shade!
Thanks so much!
I think I’ll get this color!
No problem, Julia! Enjoy!
OMG. That is possibly the most beautiful red lipstick I have ever seen.
Ohh, I think we have a winner for you, Sarah!
Christine, you make this color look good! Its stunning on you.
Aw! Thank you very much, Aeman!
Pretty and fiery. It is one of my favourite red shades you have showcased so far.
Nice! Good enough to buy, though? 😉
This one is a true killer.
It is beautiful, yeah?
Very beautiful red, but probably too bright for me to pull off 😮
This is my favorite red–always makes me feel confident!
Nothing better than a red that makes you feel that way! 😉
This is outrageously beautiful! I can’t believe a glossy red lipstick applies so smooth and clean – I think it looks about as nice on your lips (at least from this picture!) as Dragon does. It’s got a real bombshell look to it. Hope you feature it in a look soon! I am thinking about picking this up…my only UD lipstick is Naked, which I love, but I’ve been lazy about getting them because there aren’t a ton of lip swatches out there, and the packaging, while gorgeous, is a bit cumbersome. Still, this one might convince me.
It does apply surprisingly well for a red! I was impressed by that. I much, much prefer Dragon over this, though it is still a very nice red 🙂
that looks like such a good pin up girl lipstick. beautiful.
Glad you like it, Lorna 🙂
This color is like fire!
I am wearing red lipstick right now as I am typing this and I feel so fierce! =)
Haha! What red lipstick are you wearing, Jeannie?
Hey there!
I just found your blog a couple of days ago, and I’m loving it! I’ve been through something ridiculous like the first 70 pages.. 🙂
Anyways, here’s a question for you: You do lots of red lips and I LOVE them. Do you have any lipsticks/glosses you would rec. for a girl with pale skin, green eyes, and a vibrant auburn (really red in the sun, but a brown-red). I’ve been eyeing the lipstick queen sinner red..but I don’t know if it’s too bright…any ideas are appreciated:)
(Also, your blog made me cringe for missing out on MAC’s cult of cherry, haha. I managed to get my hands on some of the CoC lipglass last night, though!)
Wow!! I give you props for getting through 70 pages, and I am flattered that you have spent the time to go through so many pages, too! 🙂
I know it sounds funny, but redheads can pull off reds! There’s no condition to it – they can. If you cooler toned, I’d go with more of a blue-based red; if you’re warmer toned, orange-based reds really pop on redheads.
Ohh, glad you were able to score some of the CoC lipglass last night! Congrats 😉
My favorite red is Lady Danger by MAC which I know isn’t really a true red. But would you say Revolution is a little similar? Because I would loooove to try it if it is.
If I remember correctly, Lady Danger is kind of an orange-y red — I’d say that this different enough that they’re not the same. They’re both in the red vein, so they’re a *little* similar, LOL. I’d say give it a shot if you can!
omg! I need this in my life. reminds me a lil of gosh’s lambada but more blue toned.
Haven’t seen it, but sounds pretty 🙂
I seriously need this NOW *__* it looks almost as good/if not better than Chanel Dragon Rouge Allure Lacque
Haha! Get it, I’m sure you will love it 🙂
This is so gorgeous, but you’re going to make want all the shades you feature ;). Looks stunning on you!
xoxo
Aww! Thank you, Georgie! 😀
This is my favorite red lipstick. <3
I wear it all the time. 😀
Nice! Do you wear it alone or with gloss?
This is GORGEOUS! I don’t see myself pulling it off though.
