Urban Decay Black Velvet 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep, dark, ultra matte black with subtle warm undertones. What makes this shade standout from a lot of other intense black eyeliners on the market is how completely matte it is–looks a lot like powder kohls and the like. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

According to Urban Decay, the Velvet formula is supposed to be more easily and readily smudged and softened eyeliner compared to the original Perversion. It’s a “more powdery” take on their signature 24/7 formula, but it’s still supposed to wear long. The texture is definitely drier–powdery, in a sense–and doesn’t glide on as evenly/smoothly as the original Perversion. It’s not stiff or painful to use, but it applies best in short strokes. I think it applies more evenly to the waterline, though the original seems a little darker, but it is noticeably glossy in comparison, so I don’t know if it’s more of how that shine makes it stand out a little more than the very matte finish of Black Velvet. The original, though, is cooler-toned, and Black Velvet is distinctly warmer toned next to it. On me, Black Velvet lasted for nine hours before showing slight signs of fading.

I’m an NC45 (sometimes darker in summer) in Mac and the darkest eyeliner I have ever found has been Inglot gel eyeliner in Matte 77! It’s $12 and lasts forever on my upper and lower lash line, it dries fast though so you have to smudge fast! lol I’m going to take it to sephora and swatch it in comparison to these and see which is darker!

I love perversion 24/7 pencil, but lately it’s been making my eyes water, so I need to try out of these pencils instead. Christine, have you ever tried the Inglot Matte eyeliners?

Also, is it just me or does Black Velvet look almost brown in the bottom pic?

I know you didn’t ask my opinion but I love Inglot’s gel eyeliner in (I think) #77 or Chanel’s waterproof pencil. I forget the full name. I wear contacts and have the worlds worst allergies so my eyes are this terrible mix of so dry they have torn my contacts and very watery.

Hehe, I feel like I’m the only person in the world who didn’t like the Perversion 24/7 liner! 😛 To be fair, my one is, I believe, a dud. It came as one half of a double ended pencil, and it’s the hardest thing in the world. I actually have to hold it (warm/moisten it) in my mouth (I’ve tried nearly everything, and did this out of exasperation) to get any colour off it!

I always thought I should just buy a proper Perversion liner, but now that I see this one is matte… <3 I have liquid liners/gel liners that are shiny and cool toned, so this is very tempting!! I love all my other UD 24/7 liners so much, that i might have to add this one to their ranks…

i love perversion pencil. it’s the longest-lasting and most intense black i’ve found for the waterline. big problem–after about six hours, my eyes start to itch and eventually my vision gets cloudy. sad.
can’t wear any of the UD 24/7 pencils.

This is what I need, I love the subtle warm undertones and the matte/powder effect! I do hope they will introduce some new neutral colours in this Velvet formula…a toupe mushroom color, a caramel or warm brown will be the end of the world!!
