The Scarlet Season: MAC Wild ‘Bout You Lipstick

MAC Wild ‘Bout You Lipstick ($14.00 for 0.10 oz.) was a limited edition shade of amazingness launched with the Rockocco Collection back in fall of 2006. MAC described it as a “rich raspberry with pink pearlized pigments” with a matte frost finish (who knew you could have a matte frost!).  This shade is almost not quite a red, but I couldn’t resist including it, because 1) it does have a red tinge to it, and 2) I tend to reach for it when I’m feeling like wearing red.

It’s a very amped up raspberry red with kind of an icy pearl fuchsia-pink sheen, but otherwise, the lipstick itself is matte.  I will also say that Wild ‘Bout You is a particularly dry matte, so it’s not the easiest to use on imperfect lips.  Because it does have a tendency to be quite dry, I usually wear it with a gloss on top, which makes it look and feel the way I like it to.  Don’t forget – you can see looks/lip combinations of me wearing this lipstick here.

The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

Are those your lips featured in the product gallery? They are much larger, they don’t seem like the same person. Either way, you have the ultimate lip model lips, they are perfect with all of the red colour lip products. Reds are the hardest for lips to carry and you do it exceedingly well.

After the holidays, may be you could get us ready for the “love season” (valentine’s day) with various shades of pink.

is it just me or is this color a bit 80’s? it’s still pretty but it has that frosted 80’s look to me. i think topping it with gloss would definitely bring it back into modern-day makeup.

Pretty, I like how the frosty/pearly sheen adds dimension to it and it probably makes it long lasting too. In general, I find that most MAC lipsticks are long lasting, except for the glaze and the lustre finishes.

There are others who probably own it who may have forgotten what it’s looked like, or the very fact that maybe someone hasn’t seen this shade and wants to find it or recreate it using products they have at home. It also can help someone chime in with, “I have x lipstick that looks just like this!” if they see this one is older or limited 🙂

New York Apple has kind of that raspberryish-red shade, and if you pat a lil’ Pink Opal pigment on top, you can get that more of a matte frost finish AND the slight iridescence of Wild ‘Bout You, too. (And I LOVE to add Pink Opal pigment on top of Wild ‘Bout you, period.)

Im not sure if this would be an exact match but it is a good pink red (all though slightly glossy) is Estee Lauders Pure Crystal lipstick in Red Apple.

Gorgeous, I really miss the Rockocco collection, especially Coco pigment and now this, since I missed it at the time. *Wishes the collection would come back*

I loooove Wild ‘Bout You! Especially with Sex Ray l/g from Lure. Mmmm, delicious. 🙂

I’d also like to say that it looks far better by itself on your lips than it does on mine. So much smoother.

YAY! Sex Ray is gorgeous. I wish I bought it when it was out. I don’t know what I was thinking NOT buying it. I don’t think I was into lip stuff at that point in my MAC addiction, but DAMN!

Your lips have to be PERFECT (or nearest to) to really pull it off. It’s just SO drying alone!

i think that was from Untamed, Rockocco did have a gorgeous red l/s (rockocco) and matching gloss as well

they did both launch at the same time tho

This is easily my favorite lipstick ever by MAC, I have several back-ups and always on the hunt for more. It’s far richer in color with more purple on my lips than in your pics though.
