Sneak Peek: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes (Part 2)

Hourglass Dim Infusion Ambient Lighting Blush
Hourglass Dim Infusion Ambient Lighting Blush

My order of Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes arrived today! I’ll be testing the three I didn’t have today and tomorrow. I ordered Ethereal Glow directly through Hourglass, so that’s not here yet… So far, it seems like these run very warm, and I would definitely have loved to see something cooler-toned somewhere (at least a pink or plum). Full reviews to come – I would appreciate it greatly if you would hold questions until I’ve written the reviews. Thank you!

I agree. I think I was expecting some face perfecting blush but these seem no better than other blushes I own. I think with all the hype I was expecting perfection and find these not to live up to it.

What’s ironic is, years ago cosmetic companies assumed all pale/fair skin was pink, and occasionally peach. Those with neutral or purely warm undertones were completely out of luck, and that’s even if they went to the lighter end of the spectrum. So, while there is still alot that is lacking on both ends of the spectrum, things are much better, LOL!

Jenn Avatar

Nope….I feel the same. I like radiant magenta and diffused heat but the dim light looks just like any other peach and all 3 pinks aren’t that different.

Farida Avatar

I completely agree. I have no clue which one to get because I find them all to look the same. Christine, is it possible for you to show all of them side by side? I just want to see if there is any difference. THX!!!

Farida Avatar

OMG I can’t believe I didn’t know that. I just swatched them side by side. This is great. Thank you!!!!!! You are great and of course so is your blogs!

Krystel M Avatar

They’re all beautiful on you and I can’t wait to get my hands on these. Is it me or do they all look very similar? I was hoping for some distinct shade differences. I guess it’ll make the decision of choosing a lot easier.

Carrie Avatar

I toyed with picking up Mood Exposure after ethereal light sold out. Glad I didnt, thst looks way warmer than I’d guessed. I’m now super curious about that last one!

xamyx Avatar

I kind of like the second & third, but will have to swatch in-store… From what I saw of Ethereal Glow, it seems on the paler side. I’ll probably be better off just picking up the regular powders, and pairing them with my own blushes…

Larissa Avatar

ACK! MOOD EXPOSURE! It’s absolutely GORGEOUS, and everything I wanted it to be! 99.9% certain I’m dropping my money on Mood Exposure next, oh my goodness!!!

Speaking of ordering from Hourglass directly, though… I placed my order on Jan. 23rd and it still hasn’t shipped yet! Did yours? Are they that bogged down?

Christine Avatar

Radiant Magenta has the coolest color in it, which is the magenta, but Radiant is such a warm shade that when blended, magenta just loses its cool-toned coloring. Luminous Light’s pink looks almost cool-toned… maybe (it seems warm-toned to me), but Luminous’ warmth again mixes and warms it up. It makes some sense, as the majority of the Ambient Lighting Powders ran warm. Mood Exposure was the one I thought might be more neutral-cool but it turned surprisingly warm.

xamyx Avatar

It could have to do with when your card was processed, and when it officially cleared. I once ordered something online that was supposed to take 7-10 days, but actually took about 2 1/2 weeks.

Genevieve Avatar

That’s how I feel about the Mood too! I ordered the Radiant Magenta, but wasn’t really feeling the Mood based on Sephora’s swatches, but I am completely digging it now. I want Luminous Flush so badly too- I had it in my virtual cart at Sephora, stepped away to get something for my 2 y.o. and missed it! Oh well, at least they are permanent! Good luck with your purchases!

Larissa Avatar

That’s basically been me 100%. I ordered Radiant Magenta, and on and off for the past several days I put Mood in my cart then changed my mind and told myself to be good and wait for your first blush to arrive. My resolve is crumbling as I stare at the still-available Mood Exposure on Hourglass’s website…

Good luck with yours, too. Sounds like you have great taste. 🙂

I may have just did a little dance at my desk when I saw this post! I am eagerly awaiting Dim infusion and Mood exposure and your two posts have made me want to grab a third brighter shade for the summer! I purchased the ambient palette and am full on addicted to it, even my sister likes to use it as well. I am a super oily skinned girl but these do something for my super pale winter skin and I cannot wait to use them when I have some color in the summer.

Thank you so much for the awesome posts and I eagerly await your reviews!

Varika Avatar

I can’t wait for your reviews! I was really excited to see this sneak peek- Luminous Flush looks so nice. The five shades shown so far look pretty similar to each other though so maybe Ethereal Glow is going to be different!

Luminous Flush is supposed to get here for me today, which I’m excited about, but also a smidgen worried because I’m super cool-toned. I’m a little glad I held off on buying more than one until I saw your review though, since it looks like they look very similar on the face. They look really natural and pretty though, to be sure, and the packaging is gorgeous!

Eliz Avatar

They all look lovely on you. But, yes, warmer than I imagined – especially the Mood Exposure, which I thought would pull cooler. I managed to get Ethereal Glow from Sephora and it’s supposed to arrive tomorrow (but we’re getting snow here in the Carolinas, so who knows). I’m hoping it will lean cool, especially since it is described as cool pink. Since all of these look really beautiful on you, I have confidence Ethereal Glow will be just as nice. Thanks so much for the sneak peek – your face always makes me smile as you have a glow that comes through in every single photograph. And, no, it’s not the finishing powder or highlighter – it’s all you. Smile.

LU Avatar

I’m slightly disappointed about the similarities and them being so warm toned, they’re still very pretty though. However, that’s great for my wallet, because I’ll probably only buy two out of the bunch.

Varika Avatar

Hey Christine, what eyeliner are you wearing? I’ve been wanting a very dark brown eyeliner. I already checked above, but it wasn’t listed so that’s why I’m asking. 🙂 Also, on the sephora community page, some people posted a few swatches, and Mood Exposure looks much more plum. Either way, it’s still very pretty, but I was wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that each of these blushes has a different mix.
Thanks!

Jocelyn Avatar

In general, these all look very lovely and I’m sure I’ll pick a couple up, but I’m a bit underwhelmed at the serious lack of variety. I love that the quality is there, which is my #1 requirement, but it seems like they missed the boat (especially from a business perspective) on colors. Several look so alike once they’re on, there’s no reason for me to purchase them all – and let me tell you I WOULD HAVE PURCHASED THEM ALL had there been more variety. Frankly I got much more excited about the new Clinique blushes. NEVER thought I’d be saying that. Oh well, I pick up a couple of these and move on…

Alice Avatar

I’m underwhelmed for the price of these blushes. I thought I would like them more, since I love the ambient powders. I will have to swatch and see these in person to see if I still want one. I’m thinking the new Clinique blushes are a lot better.

beck Avatar

I have 3 of the radiant lighting powders.
I like how smooth they are, Radiant
turns orange on me though.
It seems like I can easily replicate
the look of these blushes with
pre existing blushes in my stash
and top/layer/blend with my
radiant lighting powders for a close
match! Any one try it yet?

Kami Avatar

I am not sure how to feel about these. I little bit underwhelmed. I mean they look pretty but I find there is a bit of a discrepancy from what it looks in the pan and swatched. Was expected a bit more. I like maybe mood exposure the most? But then again they all look so frikkin similar. As much as I loved the promo pictures I am definitely not in a rush to have them now.

Diana Avatar

Don’t know if it’s the foundation already being luminous, but in addition to the infusions for the blush, it just makes your cheeks look oily and highlighted your pores–normally you look more fab! I wonder if this blush is more meant to be paired with a matte foundation?

furandlace Avatar

You know I honestly thought I’d end up with at least 4 out of the 6. After seeing swatches, I’m not going to buy any. I was expecting a product that was part illuminator part blush or something. And these just look like regular blushes to me. And to top it off, I find them all surprisingly similar on the cheeks. I was most intrigued by mood exposure but the swatch isn’t what I wanted it to be…

Andrea Avatar

These all look beautiful but unfortunately I don’t see a shade different enough from anything I own to justify purchasing. This kind of self restraint is shocking for me as a blush fiend haha

CarolineL Avatar

A little disappointed in Mood since that is the one I purchased. Was hoping it to be plummy like it was described. Looks very warm and orange. I may return it for Radiant. Looking forward in what the cool pink looks like. Still waiting for my order to arrive. Thanks for the quick sneak peak I know people are anxious to see swatches for these much anticipated blushes.

Denise S. Avatar

Aw snap I can see I should have ordered Mood exposure instead of the Poppy colored one I ordered. I’ll probably be happy with the Magenta colored one I also ordered, they all look good. Should at least have waited for your review first before rushing to order ,lol.

amanda Avatar

these look beautiful!!!! 😀

I know tons of people are comparing these to the Milani Baked Blushes. I couldn’t wear those because they broke me out : / BUT i’m sooo excited for these because of their “radiant” properties and because of the fact they are paraben free and have better ingredients!!

GK Avatar

I got Mood Exposure & it’s very plum on me. I’m very pale with a pink undertone so everything shows. I like the way it looks on you! I wanted a pretty coral too. Which one do you think is the softest pink/coral?

Cristen Avatar

I received two of the blushes yesterday, Dim Infusion and Diffused Heat, and while I love Dim Infusion I will be returning Diffused Heat. Unfortunately the color of Diffused Heat was not what I expected. Based on the description and some of the swatches I have seen, such as yours, I was expecting Diffused Heat to have a reddish/coral tone to it. On my skin, which is fair and cool, Diffused Heat turned out much more pink and was in no way a poppy-like shade. I also noticed that the texture of Diffused Heat was not as smooth as Dim Infusion and it had more of a sparkle than I expected. On the other hand I love Dim Infusion! Mine seems to have more of the Dim light swirled in it and it almost works as a bronzer/sculpting blush for me which is a plus because I love nude blushes anyway. I was actually thinking about picking up Chanel Les Beiges and using it to add some warmth to my skin but I plan on trying this out instead and it’s half the price! I enjoyed the texture of Dim infusion much more and found it to give a gorgeous sheen on the skin. Looking forward to more of your reviews!
