NARS Sex Fantasy Blush Review, Photos, Swatches
NARS Sex Fantasy Blush
NARS Sex Fantasy Blush ($29.00 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “pale lavender pink.” It’s a light, pinky lavender with a matte finish and cool undertones. Givenchy It-Girl Purple (P, $44.00) is pinker. NARS Mistinguette (LE, $29.00) is slightly pinker, brighter. NARS Gaiety (P, $29.00) is cooler-toned, brighter. MAC Unconventional (LE, $21.00) is cooler-toned, lighter. MAC Well Dressed (P, $21.00) is pinker. MAC Full of Joy (LE, $21.00) is more lavender-hued, more shimmery. See comparison swatches.
The blush is very pigmented as it appears very true-to-pan, but because it is such a light shade, it may not translate on deeper skin tones. This is a blush that would work best on fairer complexions. On my medium complexion, it just barely shows up when applied heavily. The texture is soft, incredibly finely-milled, but it is powdery so I would use a soft, feathery brush and a lighter touch so as to not dislodge too much powder from the pan. It blends beautifully, though, and I didn’t have any issues with it looking powdery on the skin. When I wore it yesterday, the color lasted well for almost eight hours and then started to gradually fade.

Is this similar at all to Illamasqua Katie blush?
Hi Rachel!
Katie is similar, but it is more neutral-to-cool–less blue in it! http://www.temptalia.com/illamasqua-katie-blush-review-photos-swatches
Possibly more muted/less bright (but on that might not matter).
Thanks Christine!
This is my favorite of the three, I’m a sucker for cool toned pink blushes. Love it!
What are your must-have cool-toned pink blushes, Melinda?
Hi Christine, Gaiety, Desire, and Angelika come to mind!
Great picks, Melinda! Thanks for sharing 🙂
This is lovely!
how does Sex Fantasy compare to Illamasqua’s Katie?
Hi Nancy!
Katie is similar, but it is more neutral-to-cool–less blue in it! http://www.temptalia.com/illamasqua-katie-blush-review-photos-swatches

Ugh. I might sound like a prude but I’m getting so bored of Nars’ innuendo names, ever since the Guy Bourdin range I’m just going off them as a brand. It’s like some sleazy friend of your dads who makes everything smutty.
Just me??? :/
Some love ’em, some hate ’em! There are definitely readers who don’t buy certain products because of their names, and I know some who avoid the brand as a whole because of the names. Similar viewpoints exist on Urban Decay as well (too many drug references). It’s not just you! I think some of them are a little too OTT for my taste – rather a little more tongue-in-cheek – and it’s always an interesting conversation with the tech guys, “So, NARS Orgasm isn’t QUITE a dupe for NARS Deep Throat, you know….” We’re working on The Dupe List 2.0 right now, and NARS Orgasm is one we use as an example a lot for breaking our system, as it has 238947234 dupes so it does come up, LOL!
I totally “get” calling a blush orgasm because it gives you that flush. I can’t explain the justify the rest of their names, though…
That’s pretty funny example of discussing makeup names.
Thanks Christine!
You posted a question of mine regarding names of products about a year ago, and a lot of the responses seemed to say the same, it’s a bit of a yawn. And Guy Bourdin-Gate!!
Thanks again for your lengthy reply, I’m glad to see I’m not the only one!
Some of them I find amusingly silly, but others do make me roll my eyes. Actually, the one that bothers me the most is “Catfight” for vaguely feminist-y reasons.
I can deal with raunchy, “naughty”, and even offensive names, but what keeps me from buying a product is if it has a “punny” name. It just makes me feel as if it’s marketed toward a younger demographic, and therefore may lack real quality…
Totally agree! X
I think it’s great that NARS is finally making blushed suited for pale people. Most of their permanent blushes are so intensely pigmented that they are hard to use even with a stippling brush on my light-medium skin.
It seems like about half the range is fairly moderate – only a few are like, WHOA! intense aka Exhibit A type pigmentation, at least from what I can recall! I would have liked to see a better variety within the collection – shades that could be more applicable to deeper skin tones as well. Something for fair, something for deep (and between the two, light through medium could find something).
Sex Appeal is better for pale skin, and they’ve had that one for years.
The name made me want it (lol), but in the end, I don’t really care for the colour that much! At least, not for me.
Aww, bummer!
For some reason I expected this blush to be chalky, but it looks great!
On deeper complexions, it might look chalky, but on fair skin, it should be fine!
Sex Fantasy? Oh my 🙂 I think it’s more of a cute shade than a sexy shade though, but whatever, it looks lovely 🙂
It’s very subtle and soft!
I might have to pick this up. I wonder how it compares to Illamasqua Powder Blush in Katie.
Ha, sorry I didn’t read the comments before posting this. I see that you responded about this already, Christine! Thank you!
Thanks for catching that, Amanda! 🙂
I agree that would never show up on my darker skin tone. Reminds me of MAC Well Dressed blush:p
Yes, it is definitely similar, though Well Dressed is darker, LOL!
This is a pretty blush! I love the ones that have a bit of ‘purple’ to them (big surprise!).
The name cracks me up. Every time I read it, I’m like ‘but which one?’ 😀
LOL!
The color is so pretty!! I hate it’s so pale =\
I wish there was one or two darker blushes (maybe something really intense)!
Shame this isn’t going to be part of the permanent range – it would be a good cool-toned counterpart to Sex Appeal. I really love it, though. 🙂 I’ll have to glance through my collection to see if I have any dupes, but I suspect I don’t have any quite this cool-toned and light.
Maybe one day!
I have to say, I like the names!
I’m sure there are other readers who like them, so you’re not alone! It’s one of those things that naturally has fans and non-fans!
Oh I’m sure.. You have to admit it gets people talking about their blushes, and you know they’re from Nars!
I actually saw François Nars, himself, on a home-shopping channel a few years back (before I became addicted to NARS, although I had a few shadows in my stash), and he was talking about the Orgasm range, and it was *hilarious*! He played it completely straight-faced, while the female host was obviously not used to discissing orgasms on live TV…
Lol, that would have been hilarious!
I love this color on your skin, it gives you such an incredible glow!!
I think I’ll check this out, a matte blush is something I absolutely need (well, I don’t, but you know how it goes :D)
Julia
I hope you like it, Julia!
That looks absolutely stunning on you, I swear you suit every shade of make up! Are you neutral toned?
I have warm, yellow undertones!
Looks so gorgeous. Wish it worked on darker skin colors! <3
Agreed!
*dizzy swoons*
I don’t need a new light pink blush. I don’t need a new light pink blush. I don’t need a new light pink blush.
But darn, I really want this one! >.<
It would be very pretty on you, Rae! I know… not helping.
This looks exactly the shade my Barbie blush was when I was 9!
I hope that’s a good thing? lol!
Hmm, I don’t have any cool-toned blushes, I think I need to change that!
Also, I love the name, it makes me feel sexy when wearing them! 😉
How does it compare to Marc Jacobs Outspoken?
Sorry, I don’t think I have that one! 🙁
Could compare with The balm down boy or dollface of tarte? Anyhow it looks nice on you 🙂
This is a lot lighter than both of those!
although I love pink, this might be the only one i’ll pass up out of the collection. Everything else is BEAUTIFUL.
Does anyone have a dupe for MAC coygril, I am still mourning that one.
Hi Christine! I just got this blush based on your review! But for some reason–the color is not translating on my cheeks–it’s a lovely pinky lavender on the brush but on my cheeks–it’s like some sort of very warm pink! I don’t know what I’m doing wrong or how else I can try this: normally something that oxidizes on me needs at least a little time to develop into another color–this just looks like I grabbed a warm pink blush by accident (which is NOT what happened–I checked). My skintone is about NC15-20. I hope I can figure out a way to make this work–I’ve been searching for a color like this for a while.
Hi Maggie!
What foundation are you using with it and are you applying the blush while it’s still wet/damp (if you use liquid/cream)? I know in general that some lighter shades will darken and sometimes “warm” if applied over any area that has… more oil, liquid, moisture, etc. That was my first thought.
It doesn’t show up quite as cool-toned on me (I’m NC25-30) as it looks in the swatch, though I see the lavender and I don’t think I’d say it fully turns into a warm pink on me!
I bought this and love it for fair skin, but I may have to go back for Final Cut too!
Yay!!
