Maybelline Celestial Coral (010) Color Elixir Lip Color
This review is featuring Maybelline’s Color Elixir Lip Color ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.), which is a formula I’ve been working my way through! I have three more shades for you today, and I’m hoping to wrap up testing the last three shortly. A quick overview of the formula, with more shade-related thoughts below: medium-weight feel, mostly non-tacky (starts off non-sticky, develops slight stickiness over time), and generally, not nearly as opaque as marketed. They’re typically semi-opaque with noticeable color, but they’re rarely opaque. They have a sweet, creme brulee scent but a sometimes perfume-like taste. It is a moisturizing formula overall with average wear of four hours.
Celestial Coral (010) Color Elixir Lip Color ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a pinky-coral with warm undertones and a glossy shine. On lips, it looked pinker than it did simply swatched on the skin. It was semi-opaque, but the natural lip color comes through noticeably so those with more natural pigmentation to their lip color will see that come through. It wore well for four hours and was hydrating when worn. Revlon Pink Pop (P, $7.99) is similar. Giorgio Armani #519 (P, $29.00) is brighter, darker, more opaque. MAC Kiss & Don’t Tell (LE, $15.00) is lighter. MAC Star Quality (LE, $20.00) is warmer. MAC Astral (LE, $20.00) is shimmery. See comparison swatches.
Amethyst Potion (045) Color Elixir Lip Color ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a muted, subtly cool-toned berry with a hint of bluish-violet micro-shimmer. The shimmer is very, very subtle–it hardly is visible to the eye (you can see a couple of bits of shimmer in the close-up, which is larger than real life!). The color coverage was semi-opaque and somewhat uneven, but it didn’t settle into lip lines too much. It wore well for four hours and was lightly hydrating during that time. Urban Decay Big Bang (P, $19.00) is shimmery, less glossy. NARS Penny Arcade (LE, $26.00) is very similar. MAC Real Posh (LE, $15.00) is cooler-toned, shimmery. MAC Mall Madness (LE, $15.00) is shimmery. MAC Colour Saturation (LE, $20.00) is brighter. See comparison swatches
Glistening Amber (055) Color Elixir Lip Color ($8.99 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a warm-toned, yellow-toned light-medium orange with lighter gold shimmer. Applied, it takes on more of a peachy-orange color, leaning more orange to be sure, with noticeable shimmer and sparkle It was semi-sheer to semi-opaque and applied mostly evenly. It wore well for three and a half hours and was lightly hydrating. MAC Fashion Punch (LE, $15.00) is lighter. MAC Rising Sun (LE, $20.00) is similar. MAC Natural Flare (LE, $20.00) is lighter. MAC Imperial Light (LE, $20.00) is sheerer. Burberry Cameo (P, $27.00) is browner. See comparison swatches.

Thank you for an excellent review as always. I am bummed about these as the marketing really did sound much more opaque than they are. I think I will pass.
No prob, Michelle! Wish they’d been more opaque, too, since they really marketed them with pigment in mind!
I love how super glossy these are 🙂 Very candy-like!
That’s a good comparison!
I need another gold product like I need another hole in the head, but I think I’m going to have to try Glistening Amber. I like the formula on these, so as long as I know how opaque a shade is going in, I don’t mind if that shade isn’t fully opaque.
Haha! 😉
I agree — I don’t think it’s an automatic deal-breaker (like I would still consider buying shades from this line), but Maybelline sure overdid the promo of pigmentation on these.
The formula looks really moisturizing and plush. And fairly pigmented for a gloss
I keep seeing the TV commercial for these, and the models lips are insanely red, LOL! However, the reality has proven disappointing. I don’t mind the lack of pigmentation overall, but I can find it in a less expensive product.
Glistening Amber is an interesting shade!
I’m so surprised by how much pinker Amethyst Potion is on you than it is on me. On me, it’s a very vampy purplish color.
Celestial Coral took my breath away. One of the prettiest shades I’ve ever seen <3
Love Glistening Amber ! Looks beautiful on you!
Thanks, Lily! xo
Christine and Michelle from GA,
L’Oreal Color Extraordinaire is better pigmented. They have been found at CVS. Can’t wait for a review on those.
Thanks for the heads up! Is it a new formula?
I think Celestial Coral is my favorite here! I may have to pick it up soon!
I was able to pick up Celestial Coral at a bargain basement store for 1.50! I love the color and the applicator, definitely reminds me of the wand for the YSL lip stains! Love the review as always!
