YSL Violine Surrealiste (26) Glossy Stain Review, Photos, Swatches

YSL Violine Surrealiste (26) Glossy Stain
YSL Violine Surrealiste (26) Glossy Stain

YSL Violine Surrealiste (26) Glossy Stain ($36.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a vibrant, medium-dark fuchsia magenta–there are hints of purple to it but once applied to lips and it settles in, it looks more fuchsia and less purple. Burberry Pink Sweet Pea (LE, $27.00) is shimmery. NARS Mexican Rose (P, $24.00) is less magenta. MAC Full Speed Ahead (P, $19.50) is lighter. MAC Girl About Town (LE, $15.00) is pinker, shimmery. See comparison swatches.

Violine Surrealiste was mostly opaque on lips, and it was mostly even, but there were some areas that weren’t as well-covered as others.  From a normal viewing distance, it wasn’t noticeable, but in the close-ups, you can see it more pronounced.  It wore for a staggering seven and a half hours.  The consistency feels water-like when it is initially applied, but give it a minute or two, and then it becomes more gel-like, lightly tacky, and has a smoother shine.  It stains very quickly, and if you swatch it on the skin, it stains almost instantaneously–and it’s not washing off easily (if I swatch Glossy Stains, I can’t swatch anything else for at least 24 hours!).  It has a floral-grape kind of scent, one I really dislike personally, but once it sets in place, I don’t notice it.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! I see what you mean about the unevenness close up, really puts me off personally. Do you like how they look as they wear in real life, Christine? Are they comfortable over the course of wear? I’m super intrigued by a few of these!

Update on the logging in πŸ˜› – whenever I log in, it doesn’t show up (ie it looks like I didn’t log in) until I either refresh the page or click through to another page on the site. Just a heads up, sorry to add to your woes!! Looks like you’ve been beavering away at HQ, the amount of new swatches in the swatch gallery blew my mind today!!

Hey Jade!

Apparently, this is a cache issue (certain parts of the site are remembered by your browser or something rather so it’s faster for you to load the site) and has been something we’ve been trying to figure out from the beginning – the writing reviews portion works again – but we’re still trying to figure out the log in thing…

That’s crazy that you can’t swatch anything else! This is really a nice colour although it’d have to be to die for in order for me to somehow spend that much on a lip product #brokestudent

I really like this! I have a thing for purple lips lately, although I’m not really brave enough to wear them. Also not sure how they will look on me as well, with golden/yellow/slight peach undertones….something always looks a bit…off.

And I really like how the Naked 3 colours look on you!! THey are quite rosy, but this look is great!

This was the first YSL stain I bought. I had trouble making up my mind but since my birthdate is the 26th and this was one of the color choices I had it narrowed down to, I bought it. It’s a great, heightened natural looking color on me and yeah, it wears forever. I personally love the fragrance, which reminds me of the fragrance of EsteΓ© Lauder lipsticks, which are my favorite, fragrance-wise.
Thanks for the review of this! πŸ™‚
