Chanel Rose Moire & Rouge Moire Le Vernis Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Chanel Rose Moire Le Vernis

Chanel Rose Moire Le Vernis ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a pale, light pink with a neutral undertone–almost gray-ish–and a metallic shimmer/finish. I had a lot of visible brush strokes that didn’t seem to go away no matter the application or how long I waited for the polish to dry down. It was opaque after two coats, and the consistency felt right, but the end result was still riddled with brush strokes. I normally get a week of wear with Chanel’s formula with minimal tip wear and no chipping. Rescue Beauty Lounge Plie (LE, $20.00) is a cream. Zoya Pandora (P, $8.00) is darker, less metallic. Deborah Lippmann Glamorous Life (LE, $19.00) is similar–a bit warmer, though. See comparison swatches.

Rouge Moire Le Vernis ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark, cool-toned red with ruby red shimmer and a slightly metallic finish. You can see the threads of metallic ruby shimmer running through the polish, so there are noticeable brush strokes. They weren’t as noticeable as they were with Rose Moire, but they were there. The color was opaque with two coats of polish, and the consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Black Metal Dahlia (P, $10.00) is much darker. Le Metier de Beaute Dynasty (LE, $10.00) is similar, slightly darker. China Glaze Ahoy (LE, $8.00) is pinker, less metallic. Zoya Blaze (P, $8.00) has a different finish. Butter London Blowing Raspberries (P, $15.00) is a cream. See comparison swatches.

They have a kind of retro finish which is actually not good retro. The Rose Moire reminds me of bad perms and puffy sleeve prom dresses. Yuck. Leaving it!

Brushstrokes don’t really bother me (my favorite all time is Skyline), but these colors just don’t look unique enough to justify the cost. I’m willing to pay the premium if it’s something really special, however these two look similar to many other colors I already own.

The Rose is a pass (because it doesn’t work for my skin tone), but the Rouge is very lovely. I swatched it to see how it compared to Malice, but it’s considerably lighter. I think it will accidentally fall into my shopping bag one of these days… 😉

Though I gotta say, not as light as in your photos. I think you changed your lighting/camera/something a year/year and a half ago, and the first couple of reviews threw me off a bit because suddenly the polishes looked much lighter in your photos that in my nails in RL, but then I realized, well, it’s RL vs studio lighting, so no surprise really… I’ve started to compensate for that now. ;D

It is full studio lighting now, so it’s like “max light” in a way – the best day outside but it’s really inside with no windows (so I can shoot at night, when it’s raining, etc.). Everything is really controlled, color/white balanced, etc.

I’m…. horrified by these colors. I’ve never said that about Chanel to be quite honest but I’m a 90s kid. This is what my mother wore when I was young and to me they just scream old lady in the salon that has gotten the same color done since 1987. I… no.

Personally I love Rose Moiré, to me it looks like a pearlescent pink 🙂
However, I actually came on here to read your review of Rouge Moiré. I tried it on for the first time today after prepping as usual, but both 1st and 2nd coat came out with bubbles (think that’s what you call it in English?) on every nail, in spite of a smooth base coat underneath. I was surprised because none of my other Chanels do that. So I wanted to check if anyone else had experienced that with this particular polish, but nobody mentions it anywhere, so maybe I just did an unusually bad job of painting my nails?? Anyway, thanks for a great review. I check out your website every now and again, but this is my first time commenting 🙂
