MAC Stares & Speculation Fluidline Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Stares & Speculation Fluidline
MAC Stares & Speculation Fluidline

MAC Stares & Speculation Fluidline ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “dirty olive with gold pearl.” It’s a subdued, green-tinged brown with warm undertones and a golden bronze micro-shimmer. Sephora Collection Roof Top Party (P, $9.00) is similar–a little lighter. Urban Decay Stash (P, $19.00) is very close but in pencil form. bareMinerals 10AM (LE, $15.00) is greener. See comparison swatches.

It had fairly good color payoff in a single stroke (applied with MAC’s 208) and can be applied more heavily, as if it were a cream eyeshadow. The consistency was creamy, not too thick or too thin, and spread well–it was very true to the Fluidline formula.  I wore this along the lower lash line, and it didn’t move for twelve hours (until I took it off).  No smudging or flaking!

I’ve reviewed Deliciously Rich and Macroviolet is part of the permanent range (each time they repromote it, I think I’ve reviewed it, and each time, I find out I’m wrong), but I have a swatch of it here.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! I noticed there wasn’t a grade or glossover for the items in the Divine Nights collection. Are you scraping the grading system? Somehow it helps me a lot better in making a decision!

Hi Fiona,

Please make sure to read the post above! 🙂 In it, I stated: “I’ll update this post with wear time and a rating once I’ve finished testing it! :)” I wrote this on nearly every Divine Nights post as they are sneak peeks since I just received the items yesterday and haven’t had a chance to test everything yet. I’m currently working through the products and am updating posts as I wrap up testing. Thanks!

Definitely don’t need another eyeliner but this is beautiful! Could this be worn in the daytime or would it be too much, I wonder? If it wears well once you test it, I will be very tempted. 🙂

Saw this today at MAC and talk about gorgeous. I still have a swipe of it on my hand and I’m sorry I didn’t at least ask for a sample! It’s not a shade I’d be likely to wear as a liner but I would love it as a shadow. I’ve never used the Fluidlines (I prefer pencils) – can anyone tell me how well (or poorly) they perform as shadows?

Thanks for the information, Christine. I might just pick this up (I don’t know why I didn’t just grab it yesterday but my brain was sort of “checked out” and I had a throbbing headache!). Since I’d be more likely to use this as a shadow on its own (as I often do with paint pots), the issue of blending another shadow over-top may not be a deal breaker so I may well grab this next time I’m near the MAC counter.

Beautiful. This will be coming home with me. I’m supposed to be cutting back on my makeup purchases, but I work less than 1/2 a block from a MAC store…

The only Fluidline that I saw from the fall/winter collections that I loved was Deliciously Rich, and I did buy it. Nothing else from any of the collections that are in stores now impressed me. Funny, because so many other brands are coming out with amazing collections this year! I’ve already spent a boatload of cash on everything *but* MAC.
