5 Shimmering Shades of Pewter

One of my favorite shades in makeup (especially for eyes and nails) is pewter. I love that it’s this mix of gray, gold, silver, and green–it can be such a complex shade.

  1. Dior Millenium — shimmering, warm-toned pewter in a cream formulation that can be worn sheer or opaque
  2. MAC Antique Diamond — a metallic golden pewter with soft sparkle in a cream form
  3. Benefit Skinny Jeans — a classic green-leaning pewter with a golden bronze sheen
  4. Inglot #454 — a lovely light-medium golden pewter with a frosted, metallic finish
  5. Urban Decay Addiction — limited edition but still available (so I couldn’t resist), this is a beautiful green-ish, dirty gold for tips

What’s your favorite pewter-hued beauty product?

*Sometimes* I like a pewter shade for eyeshadow – it largely depends on the “green” element of the “mix of gray, gold, silver, and green.” I love gray, I can tolerate a not-too-yellow gold, but greens just do not play well with my [green] eye color.
What I’d dearly love to find is a shimmery mid-tone true (not blue) gray eyeshadow. The closest I’ve come so far is Cargo “Yukon,” which is really more of a taupe shade. MAC “Clue” is pretty close in color, too, but the pigmentation is not the best. 🙁

I can’t think of any specific pewters off-hand, but I know I do have several. It’s a shade I’m drawn to, and I have several palettes that contain shades in the range, but no singles. With my coloring, and overall style, pewter & taupe work very well for me. I will definitely take this list into consideration, along with siggestions of others, the next time I look for pewters!

I tried to buy Cargo Yukon back in September when I was at ULTA in the US and they were sold out; I nearly had a tantrum right there in the store! My faves would be Skinny Jeans for sure and also UD Mushroom and TheBalm Insane Jane (why they don’t release that as a single is beyond me). I also really love Stila Grace and Cloud though I’m not totally sure either one of them counts as truly “pewter”. I have a sample of MAC Antique Diamond. It is so pretty.

I totally forgot about that one! I depotted all of my round single shadows last Summer, and I haven’t pulled out any of the palettes since then. It really is gorgeous, and thanks for the reminder!

There use to be this shade by NYX, now discontinnued, named Dune. It was kind on the dark side of pewter but still beatiful though. And affordable.

I’m new to this site and still getting the hang and feel of it. So far I am liking my experience very much. I spend a lot of time on Beautylish, which I love, and am always wishing there were more site out there that catered to all aspects of makeup but with a community feel to it. I don’t mean to ramble. I just saying thanks.

Now to answer the question. My fav pewter is Patina by MAC. I know it’s not a full blown pewter color but when I wet it first this color sings to me like a beautiful love song meant only for me being sung in pewter flat!

It’s all good when readers share their favorites LEs! I don’t mind 🙂 I just try not to since I consider these like, “Hey, here are some recommendations!” as much as it is “I love these” and OMG, there are a lot of amazing LE pewter shades!
