10 Shades for a Rainbow of Color

I thought coming up with a beautiful rainbow of hues might be a fun (and challenging!) theme to work under.  Of course, I took liberties with the concept of rainbow and added a few in-between shades to make a full list of ten.  I would love to see what your top ten shades are, in rainbow-order, so-to-speak! 🙂

  1. Urban Decay 69 — a bright, medium-dark red with cool undertones
  2. Zoya Amy — a fiery, gold-shimmered orange
  3. Sugarpill Buttercupcake — bright, matte yellow
  4. Illamasqua Fledgling — rich, grassy green with a matte finish
  5. OCC Man by Man — a metallic teal
  6. Urban Decay Radium — a medium blue with shimmer
  7. Sephora My Boyfriend’s Jeans — a blue-purple with shimmer
  8. Fyrinnae Parental Advisory — a bold, cool-toned purple
  9. Too Faced Lollipop — violet with fuchsia shimmer
  10. Dior Aventure (81) — because life isn’t complete without taupe

I love this post!!! I just love it! I might not buy all the colors…too much color is almost always too much…though I can get away with some used gently and just so (and believe me, I do that all the time). So some will make their way into my stash…

Top 10 shades:

I had difficulty selecting the purples, since I only have taupe-y and greyish purples. Also, narrowing down taupes to just one shade was painful 😉

#2 (Meloncholy) swatches orange, but turns slightly coral on my lips. I think I ordered a sample of it just for the name, but ended up loving it.

#4 (Fifteen Birds) is probably my favourite green shadow. It’s a bit lighter than typical forest greens, but it doesn’t veer toward “grassy” or olive greens either.

I had to laugh when I saw the taupe…like “since when is taupe a colour of the rainbow”? But taupe is my favourite eye shadow colour, so in “my”world, the rainbow would also contain taupe! So, let’s try this (bearing in mind there are many shades I just don’t wear so don’t have…)

Red: Chanel Pirate lipstick
Orange: TheBalm Hot Mama blush (it’s the closes I’ve got)
Yellow: Wet n Wild Vanity palette – right side yellow shadow (which I never use)
Green: Urban Decay Kush – a nod to Christine for showcasing it the other day
Teal MAC Birds & Berries or Steamy
Blue: Urban Decay Radium
Blue/purple: Nars Kauai
Purple: the “exclusive” shade from Too Faced’s Enchanted Glamourland or, if I have to go dark, Mac India Ink
Fuchsia: MAC Her Blooming Cheek (the closest thing I can think of that might be considered fuchsia)
and Taupe: I’ve gotta put my love behind either TheBalm Insane Jane or Cargo Yukon or maybe UD Mushroom

BUT LADIES….you cannot have a rainbow without a pot of GOLD so I vote for either the golden-ish side of Nars Kauai OR TheBalm Honey Pot!!!

I fell in love with Illamasqua during their after Christmas sale.

I got Fledgling a few weeks ago from Sephora’s Illamasqua mystery box. I really liked the box because I got some shades I would not normally buy (they were all a bit older, but given the price, it was a fun buy).

The mystery box had Electrum liquid metal, Facade Square lip gloss, Monogamous nail polish, long fringed falsies (with glue), Scribe precision ink, and Fledgling. I really like the box. I had never worn a brown lip before (oddly enough with how adventurous I am with makeup). Fledgling is my favorite from the box, but I like everything. Monogamous is a much lighter toned polish than I am used to, but a nice formula. I have no idea of what to do with Scribe.

I’ve adjusted this list to accommodate my beauty collection, but here goes:

Orange: China Glaze Sun Worshipper
Yellow: Rock and Republic Alpha Blonde lipgloss (really more golden, but close enough lol)

Blue: I don’t own any true blues. Go figure!
Indigo: Urban Decay Evidence Eyeshadow (on the extremely rare occasion that I use color versus neutrals for eyeshadow)
Purple: La Femme Blush on Rouge in Purple Passion

Teal: China Glaze Custom Kicks (my absolute favorite nail polish ever)

I really need to get my hands on Fyrinnae’s Parental Advisory. So gorgeous!

Red: Ooh, that’s a tough one. I have so many! Let’s go with Lipstick Queen’s Red Sinner lipstick for a traditional red and Guerlain Rouge G in Gigolo for a vampier red.
Orange: Maybelline Vibrant Mandarin
Yellow: Not a color I traditionally wear…I do have Benefit’s Lemon Aid, though, which is designed to offset dark circles!
Green: Urban Decay Mildew
Blue: Revlon polish in Chic
Indigo: Despite it being one of my favorite colors, I don’t actually own anything in this shade! I’ll have to remedy that.
Purple: Urban Decay Tornado
Taupe: Oh, this is like the red lipstick of eyeshadows for me…Chanel Fauve for eyeshadow, Rimmel Taupe for eyeliner, and L’Oreal Greyt Expectations for nails.
Teal: Estee Lauder eyeliner in Electric Teal…when it was still mine. My mom has worn it to a stub at this point. 😛

Really surprised at how little purple I own, especially since I have brown eyes. I guess I’m just a consummate neutrals girl!
