Urban Decay Vice Eyeshadow Palette for Holiday 2012

Urban Decay launches the Vice Palette for fall—an insanely gorgeous new palette that’s ALL about eyeshadow. All twenty new shades (yes, twenty!) were created exclusively for the palette—you’ve never seen these colors before because they are BRAND-freaking new…and you can’t find them anywhere else. With a range of mattes, shimmers, satins, neutrals and brights, there’s something for everyone. Limited Edition.

From our makeup artist team to our makeup-obsessed staff, everybody’s flipping out over Junkie, a shimmery green; Black Market, a jet black-satin; Blitz, a breathtaking gold; and Chaos, a bright blue matte, a shade that Wende calls “…totally amazing. And there’s a velvety smoothness and depth of color that are never-before-seen qualities in a color-rich matte.”

It all comes housed in a sleek purple soft-touch case topped with a sparkling jeweled UD icon. The sophisticated case boasts a large mirror and a double-ended Good Karma Shadow and Crease Brush (a current customer favorite)! We even borrowed motion-control technology from the automotive industry–with the push of a button, the slow-opening lid dramatically unveils all 20 shades, seducing the eye with anticipation.

Every eyeshadow contains Urban Decay’s brand new Pigment Infusion System™, the proprietary blend of ingredients that gives every shade its velvety texture, rich color, serious staying power, and blendability.

I cannot get my hands on this fast enough! Can’t wait!!

  2. Bee

I’m waiting for your reviews on these :) I missed out on the nekkid palette but I guess this one has both nude and dark shades :)

  3. Carrie

Not sure the colors will work for me, but man that’s a good looking palette! Glad to see it gimmick free!

  4. Kafka

Wow. WOW! This looks amazing! Jagged in particular, though Occupy, Junkie and Armor are calling my name too. 20 eyeshadows for $59 seems like a really fantastic deal too, especially when you consider that the recent Fun/Feminine/Dangerous palettes had 6 for $36. I still want 2 of those, but maybe I will hold off until I see the reviews for this one.

  5. Kris (kmk05)

OOOOH!!!!!!! *starry-eyed* I can’t wait for you to review this, Christine!

  6. GUSnail

I’m not a big fan of pallettes, but this one looks really interesting. A really great mix of colors. I hope it gets positive reviews. Christin, will you be reviewing it?

  7. Jaz

I saw someone’s swatches on this , and I decided to just wait for the high quality swatches aka yours. I am excited for this palette. My debit card is not gonna be happy with me after this , because I also want the Ocho Loco Set , and the Stila holiday liner set. OY VEY. Why does everything have to be so beautiful this year?

  8. AnGeLwInGz

I’m so excited that I literally just went into a hiccup fit!

  9. Ooooooofff..I’m feeling the ole one-two punch from Urban Decay on all these amazing offerings for Holiday 2012! I already have the pencil collection and Fun palette in my sights.. and now this one? OOooooof!

  10. I wish I could take the money I spent on the UD15 palette and put it toward this! I wasn’t pleased with the UD15 palette but this looks amazing!

  11. Lee

Wow, I guess UD took all the complaints about constantly re-using the same colors in every palette to heart. :) This looks beautiful; I hope the shadows are up to UD’s usual quality.

  12. Kristabelle

Oh damn, this has to come along right when I talked myself out of buying any more palettes lol. That slow-opening lid sounds insanely annoying though, I don’t need ‘anticipation’ when I’m in a rush in the morning.

    • Thu

I agree with you there. I’m not above depotting beautiful packaging if it gets in the way of me using the eye shadow.

    • jennifer s

That is exactly what i was thinking. I cant wait until christine tells us how long the anticipation lasts lol.

    • Nicoco Chanel

      LMAO me, exactly.

I will be stood there with my brush like “OKAY IT’S OPENED ENOUGH /GRABS SHADE” if it’s too slow.

    • Jessica

that’s so funny! I was thinking the exact same thing! when I have 5 minutes to do my makeup at 6 am, I doubt I’ll find the “slow-opening” motion-activated lid too cute… haha

  13. Esther

some of these colors look AMAZING, and it’s a great price! miiiight have to pick this one up, depending on your review, of course ;]

  14. Lauren

Oh wow! I so don’t need this but I so want it!

  15. Hubbabubba!
Love this! Would love to try chaos, provocateur and nose :)

  16. Elysia

    non-bulky packaging!

  17. Nicoco Chanel

Ahem. I mean. This palette looks lovely. And it’s nice to see that it doesn’t appear to have loads of wasted space. Unhinged looks really similar to Shattered in these images but that is never a bad thing!

  18. Kelly

oh my goodness. I want, I want, I want.
You best believe I will be ordering this ASAP.

  19. Daniela

Today I said that I wouldn’t buy eyeshadows for a very long time because I really don’t need anything new. Yeah, not going to happen after seeing this palette, I’m so buying it!

  20. May

I don’t like palettes, but there are some gorgeous shades in this one.
If these will also be released as singles, I would be rather interested in Chaos, Black Market, Desperation and Noise! :)

  21. Rachel

Does this mean no Book of Shadows this year?

  22. Sara Gemignani

  23. Amy

    Swatches please

  24. sophie

    *breathes deeply*

    I don’t need this. I don’t. I have enough eyeshadows – hell, I have enough UD palettes – to last me a decade. I don’t need this.

    But damnit, I want it!

(However, does anyone else think that a “slowly opening” lid would get reeeeally annoying after a while? I assume you can override it and just yank it open without breaking the mechanism?)

  25. Z

Color me annoyed. I wrote UD off back when they had their whole “selling in china” fiasco, plus the palettes are dull and I’ve got far too many that aren’t being used.

*But*, I still love my anniversary palette – it’s beautiful AND the colors are great – and this one is actually kind of making me want to buy it. It helps there are new shades. As much as I love Smog, I’ve got three, and as much as I’m indifferent to Midnight Cowboy, I don’t need more of those either. Damn.

  26. sarah

is this limited edition? it doesnt really say

  27. HélèneSud

    only 3 words : “I WANT IT”….
I’m fan of UD eyeshadows (even I love MAC too) and this new palette seems absolutely fab !!!
I hope that we can get it quickly in France !!
many thanks for this review !!
I do love your website : when I decide to buy a product I come and have look on your comments : In your advice I trust !

  28. Sara Gemignani

Christine, with need your review ASAP!!!

  29. Thu

Christine, please let us know if you find out anything more specific than “mid-September” for the release date :) Thanks!

  30. Tani

Looks nice but I wish there were some brighter colours instead of some of the neutrals. I’d really, really, really want an UD palette full of bright colours but I’ll keep wishing for that. Chaos looks absolutely beautiful though.

I wonder when this will come to the UK though as I probably will buy it when it does.

  31. Andrea

Want. Need. Have to have. 20 new shades?!?!?! I’m completely in lust.

  32. Sooo gonna get this! LOVE IT!!!

  33. Queenielizzie

Oh This is exciting. Was just talking with a friend about getting Naked2 but this looks far more awesome (and I think a better value?) can’t wait to see swatches!

  34. I want this so unvelieveably bad. I hope it doesnt sell out. I had to over pay for BOS IV and some other UD palettes because they sold out so fast. I really want to go to the event in NY, but those things get so crowded so fast.

  35. Victoria Ditrich

  36. Mariella

Why does UD keep doing this to me??? I have more eyeshadows that I know what to do with but my resistance is SO low and I know I’ll be buying this unless it turns out to be disappointing (I wish….it would be so much easier to resist if it sucks!)

  37. Is this palette going to be limited edition?

  38. lilly04

Holy crab it looks amazing. I was sure i don´t need more palettes and shadows than i still own. I resist a lot of new stuff from UD and others. So, i absolutly don´t need it, but i want it :). I need a new storage. 😀

  39. This will be mine! Officially obsessed!

  40. Elle

GRRRR and of course I bought the smashbox master class palette yesterday. I NEED THIS. Chaos is such a stunner. Hopefully it’s better than NARS’ Outremer, because i’m going to buy this palette for sure.

    • Courtney

Elle- How do you like the smashbox master class palette?? I’ve had my eye on that one, but then I saw this one…. and I’m not sure which one to choose!

  41. Jessica

    Drooling for Chaos~!

  42. Gina

It’s a bit more neutral dominated than I’d like, but I LOVE that they combined finishes! I feel like they’re finally starting to listen to people’s complaints about previous palettes 😀 I’m actually excited for swatches.

  43. Laura

I am so unbelievably excited for this. Aarrgh!

  44. Patricia Couto

Christine, is it a limited edition?

  45. catsngunsnyarn

    OMFG. Want.
Thank you for posting this. Totally made my day.

  46. Time to break open the Piggy Bank!

  47. Well, there goes another item on my X-Mas list. Still, there are a few colors in there I would never wear. I wish they would come out an all plum palette.

  48. i´m soo excited for this! 😀

  49. Krista

So, is this taking the place of their BOS?

  50. Rikki

I wonder if it’s replacing the book of shadows or if they’re going to come out w one too!!

  51. Oh yeah…gotta have it!! Looks like UD really does listen to us consumers with a nice sleek package and new shadows, I’m in!!

  52. Roxie

Does the Sephora release include de Sephora at JCPenny stores? That’s the only Sephora I have access to :(

  53. Cass

Love the sleek packaging! Much better than the bulky book of shadows. Want! $59 is a good deal for this amount of product, but still a little steep for me. Will wait for reviews because I’m interested in the formula. I’m trying to decide between this or the ocho loco!!

  54. Kathleen

I want to live in New York. Scratch that, I want to live in UD headquarters… I waited until the 11th to order the Ocho Loco set from Sephora, but I’m not sure if I can wait two more weeks for this palette. I may just have to start stalking the official website on Friday.

  55. Sass

this packaging looks travel friendly so I’m getting it…

  56. ms

can you approximate the lipstick in this picture please? thank you! I didn’t know where else to post, thank you!

  57. Wow I love that they included a mix of finishes – I feel like too many shimmers/glitters and not enough matte shadows was one of the complaints I heard most about UD palettes, so it’s nice to think they listened to customers’ feedback. I like that they went with sleek compact practical packaging this time – always my favorite type.

  58. Wenz

THIS is a sight for sore eyes after a long day!!!!!!!

The ocho loco liner set is atop my list, but this is a close 2nd. UD is certainly listening to their customers! I cant wait for your review!

  59. I don’t need another eye shadow palette I don’t need another eye shadow palette I don’t need another eye shadow palette I don’t need another eye shadow palette—-

Oh who am I kidding? This is gorgeous. And they’re all unique UD shades? Yeah can’t pass that. Merry early Christmas to me!

    • Lauren

I hear your struggle. I have enough eyeshadow to start a new career as a makeup artist. I have quite a few UD palettes (hmmm… Rollergirl, Feminine 2011, UD14, BOS IV, Naked 1), plenty of singles (at least 15 shades), not to mention palettes of other brands, some of which I haven’t touched in months… And I use singles more often than a lot of palettes… But I so want this.

  60. cheyenne

    So excited about this!

  61. my eyes literally watered up. i still havent purchased any of the new UD formula, and this is the perfect way for me to try! $60 for 20 shades plus a brush! YES PLZ!

  62. slick

The packaging is MUCH improved! A UD ‘book’ of shadows that I actually just might buy….excited!

  63. Gabby

    One word: WAAAANT!!!
It looks like it’s definitely worth buying, and the price point is great for 20 eye shadows.

  64. Oh no… my poor wallet.. LOL!

  65. Jazmyn

Haha all I had to do is look at the preview and I said to myself “well this is sooooo mine” haha :) really excited!

  66. Jen

F…. I don’t need another eyeshadow palette, but its like $3 a color and a brush. And I just got the smokey palette too… AND I’ve been wanting that $59 eyeliner set too… Argh, my freaking weakness to UD eyeshadows and pencils!!! Now I want this too! :( My poor wallet… I’m going to be so broke…

    • n8ivebeauT

I’m right there with you!!! I got the Smoked palette, and will be receiving the Ocho Loco and told myself that would be it and I would be cutting myself off. And now……… I see this. *sigh* UD, how dare you?!!

    • layla

  67. Julie

This is the one I have been waiting for!!!! I saw a small sneak peak earlier and have been waiting for better pictures. On my Christmas list now!

  68. kharanya

Hey Christine, I don’t usually comment, though I read your blog religiously. However, I was looking for more info on this palette and came across this site with your pictures, not sure if it’s authorized.

    [link removed]

  69. K.C.

I think I may have to get myself this for the holidays this year. Since I’ve been so good…haven’t bought any makeup all summer!

  70. Oh no! I’ve been having a rough time financially lately and was hoping the holiday palettes released by UD would be bad, haha. This one looks amazing!

  71. DJ

I absolutely need this and I just love how the packaging is simple and minimal unlike a lot of their other palettes!

  72. Caroline

So happy I didn’t get the smokey palette and the fun palette because it’s all right here in the Vice palette! But do really need it since I already have both Naked & 15th anniversary eye shadows? Hmmm. Yup, I need it! Darn you UD! You are my vice!! I need to go to makeup annymous stat!

  73. UD, you have done it again.

Desperation is EXACTLY what I was looking for, for my wedding day. Can’t wait to see it in action tomorrow!

  74. Juliet

I want this so badly! Off topic, Christine, what shade of MUFE Lift foundation are you wearing? (this post I’m wondering because it looks spot on like my coloring atm…Thanks!

  75. Allie

I am definitely snagging this during Sephora F&F, no doubt about it… now to hope it lasts that long on the site!

  76. Ruthie08

Am I they only one who doesn’t like this? This reminds me of the 15th anniversary palette which I already have. And I don’t think the colors will work ok for me. I was kinda hoping they would release a naked palette 3 with more matte colors in it. But nah, UD loves their sparkles. I guess inglot will have my Piggy bank this holiday.

    • Elizabeth

I was thinking the exact same thing about it being similar to the 15th Anniversary palette. I also have that and almost never use it. I’m not interested in this one either.

    • No it’s a pass for me as well as I have my 15th palette depotted and do use it. I fee like these a kissing cousin shades to their permanent line. Actually if this was filled with permanent shades I would have jumped for it as I like most of their shade but $22a pop get pricey.

      • Emily

How did you depot your 15th anniversary palette? I hate hate hate the lid and find myself not reaching for it because of the packaging….

    • Michelle

My dream palette is something like the Nakeds but only with matte shades! 😉

    • dom

You’re not the only one. I am head over heels in love with my 15th Anni palette and the colors are so much more striking than Vice. I say go for Inglot! I’ve started my collection already. Their AMC glosses are also to die for.

      • Ruthie08

I’ve already started my inglot collection so far I have 25 eyeshadows and I have another 20 in line. Can’t get enough of them and their mattes!

    • Nikki

It’s called Naked Basics. Only six colors this time but they are all mattes.

    • I don’t like it just like I don’t care for UD anymore. Just repeating the same stuff and getting money from people that’ll fall for it.

  77. Evilyn1983

Christine, I picked this up yesterday at my local Macy’s and it is FAB! I LOVE it! I posted swatches on the Mac cosmetics LJ community and on my instagram (evilyn1983). I was looking most forward to chaos, and it takes some work to get it to work. Over of UDPP it would NOT stay or blend at all. I had to put it over a creamy base (nyx white cream base) & then it worked fine though. Hardly any fall out with the glitter colors. I love it!

  78. Oh god… I hear my wallet screaming…. how close is Noise to Woodstock do you know? Because I feel like sometime UD puts permanent shadows in palettes and then re names them…

    • I’m pretty sure that’s what this is. I don’t believe them anymore when they say they have “brand new” shades because it literally all looks the same.

  79. I am so many levels of all-over-this.

  80. Marcia

This looks awesome! Being that there’s so many colors (revamped or not) and it’s $59, anybody know the weight of each eyeshadow pan?

  81. blueraccoon

I’m rather glad I didn’t buy any of the other palettes…because now I can buy this :)

  82. This looks really pretty! I’m so excited that they did BRAND NEW SHADES, and the packaging is gorgeous. I’m glad it’s smaller and more travel friendly than some of their palettes.

  83. Darn you, UD. Why must this palette be so appealing? 😛

  84. Lisa

I’m not going to purchase this because I still haven’t really touched Naked, or BOS4 however… UD this is SOOOO PRETTY!

  85. Joanna

    Love! On my wishlist!!

  86. So lovely! And besides, the packaging is super sleek – a nice change.

Does anyone know what the availability will be like in Canada? I’ll take a look at Sephora as soon as I get the chance, but it’s not on the website yet.

  87. Lindsey

I love UD!!! They are going to make me broke though!! I really think that I am going to HAVE to pick up this palette as well as the Smoked and original Naked.

  88. Lori

UD has definitely name this palette correctly. Their eye shadows are my vice and I was patting myself on the back for resisting their holiday fare so far but this is tempting me. I think I’m going to be getting this one most definitely!

  89. Katie

Not purchasing this, as I’ve given up Urban Decay, but i do think this is a MAJOR improvement and great replacement for the BOS. i have all of the BOSs, but the packaging on this so soooo much better. sleeker, smaller, the use of space is more efficient. and the lid is attached, unlike the 15th anni palette. if i still bought UD this would be a must-have.

    • Lauren

I do like the colors on UD15 but I kind of wish that I hadn’t gotten it because I want the Vice Palette, can’t justify it, but I like the packaging SO much better.

  90. Katie

  91. Jill650

If this had a medium matte brown, i’d be in heaven!!

  92. Dominique

Beautiful but still upset to know that UD wanted to sale in China. They are cruelty free ok but… So I must think it over before purchasing, when you and blogs broke the news, it came as a shock for many of us well I don’t yet what to do.

    • Christina

Sorry I do not get what you mean. Did Urban Decay break their cruelty-free policy??? It’s one of the reasons I support it!

      • Rebecca

I believe Chinese government requires testing on all cosmetics, therefore UD decided not to sell there so they don’t break their cruelty-free policy. At least that’s how I understood it…

  93. zulaikha

Will this be available only in the US or Sephora stores worldwide?

  94. Bee

Very pretty colors, but I don’t think I’ll be picking it up. I’m still really looking forward to your review and swatches though Christine :)

  95. I called Macys to put my name on the list when it arrives. Macys accidentally sold 2 of them when they were not supposed to. But there is a tester out she say that I can check it out. Oh well, the colors do look like the previous ones that are out…just change the names.

  96. xamyx

I realize these shades are all being marketed as “new” & “exclusive”, but I’m wondering how many are nearly identical to current shades. I’ll likely pass on this, though.

  97. Chaos and Noise… they look soooo nice!

  98. Michelle

just can’t wait! I’d like to know how the size of these eyeshadows compare to the size of the ones from the Naked Palettes.. Tks XO

  99. Andrea

It would be perfect were it not for that pink shade. Please stop putting bright pinks in so many palettes!
