Urban Decay Eyeshadow:  Two Minutes with Gunmetal

Urban Decay Gunmetal Eyeshadow ($17.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a dark gray base with a deep silver sheen. It’s very much the color of gunmetal.  I like that it’s not overly frosty or shimmery–it’s definitely more of a frost finish than anything else, but it’s not over the top.  It reminds me of MAC’s Silver Ring Eyeshadow, actually, but not quite as dark.  Gunmetal has a soft, smooth texture with rich pigmentation from the start.  No need to go back for seconds and thirds–one swipe is really all you need with this shade.

This is an excellent silver-gray for a traditional smoky eye.  You could use this all over the lid, then apply a touch of matte black in the crease to darken and smoke.  Quick, easy, and totally sultry!

Recommendation:  If you’ve been in the market for a silver/gray for smoky eyes, Gunmetal is definitely a worthy contender!  The texture is every bit of what you’d expect from Urban Decay without being too frosty and not at all glittery.

  6. Christy says:

This is one of my favorite colors out of The Book of Shadows II.

  7. Kaylabella says:

This is my new favorite UD eyeshadow! It almost turned a kind of blue-ish on me, so I wore it as a dark blue smokey eye, gorgeous!

  8. Carrie says:

Great color, but so easy to dupe. I’m sure I have MAC and Lancome shadows that are nearly identical. UD eye shadows are great, though.

  9. Kelsey says:

I like this eyeshadow, but I usually reach for S&M for a gray because I think it has less glitter.

  10. shontay says:

I had bought an UD palette with this color. It sucked that I had to return the palette b/c it meant returning this color, but I didn’t find the palette useful at all. I will be buying this individual shade though. It’s awesome.

I got this color in one of their BoS’s… I don’t remember which. Its one of my favorite shades for contrasting with brights, or using in the crease for a smoky. I’m pale enough though, that I’m scared to try your smoky eye suggestion, since usually colors that dark over the main lid sort of make me look somewhere between goth, or in drag. This is definitely one of my favorites from UD though!

  12. viv says:

How does it compare to Knight Divine? They look pretty similar from what I can tell.

  13. Ash Evans says:

I always wanted to try Gunmetal but never got around to it. Guess I will have to one of these days. Its SO pretty!!

  14. inaya says:

thanks a lot christine! who else would a make-up addict come to in her time of need?:P. can you recommend any other MAC products with my skin tone? i like shimmer(cheeks and eyes) and brights(lips and eyes). oh and i have dark brown eyes if that helps. thanks again!

  15. Dusty says:

I read, “quick, easy, and totally slutty!” and thought AWESOME!

Then I re-read it and saw “sultry.”

THEN I thought, “I liked ‘slutty’ better.” Heheh ;)

  16. Kiara says:

Hey Christine! Do you think maybelline make me pink or mac angel lipstick would compliment your suggestion for a tradional smokey eye?

  17. Cheyenne says:

Do you think with a very fair skintone (I don’t know my MAC shade yet) I could pull off Gun Metal?? Does this have fallout when applying? Lastly, what kind of settle blush color would you pair with this?

    • Christine says:

Yes, I think you could! No, not really – if you pack too much on the brush, you might get some, but that is the case with most eyeshadows!

I’d use either a light bronzer or a pale pink maybe.

i’m sooooooooooo buying this next time i’m at Sephora <3
