Tom Ford True Coral Lipstick
Tom Ford for Lipstick — Test #3
Tom Ford True Coral Lip Color ($45.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a devilishly bright true coral. It is as it is named! It’s a vibrant coral that leans a little orange, but overall, it’s exactly what I envision coral being in its purest form. Like the other shades I’ve reviewed so far, the color itself is rich and true-to-tube. Just one layer and you get a very opaque look. It also wears well throughout the day, giving me around four to five hours of wear and a bit of a lingering stain for another hour or so.
Tom Ford’s Private Blend Lip Color collection are all vanilla scented and come in a white and gold square tube. It’s a very clean and elegant look, and the tube itself is weighty, so it feels more luxurious when you hold it in your hand. I like that the usage of the white paneling means no fingerprints, since that is a common problem when brands use more metallic/metal kind of packaging. The top and bottom are both “gold,” with the top having “Tom Ford” imprinted on it. It does click shut and stay closed well.
The formula itself is creamy and lightweight–it doesn’t feel slippery or nearly as creamy as YSL Rouge Voluptes, nor does it glide on as smoothly and effortlessly as Guerlain Rouge Gs. Tom Ford’s color range is full with twelve different shades ranging from nudes to deep plums. The textures of Tom Ford’s lipsticks are semi-matte–they’re not shimmery at all–and so they have a smidgen of sheen/glisten but overall, a much flatter finish.
The two closest, possible dupes I found were Illamasqua Mistress Intense Lipgloss (different finish) and MAC Vegas Volt Lipstick (lighter, less bright, more orange).

Love it! But I am not sure, if I should get it. I do already have the Dolce & Gabbana Cosmopolitan. Are they different?
Oh forgot to ask do you think this shade is similar to Estee Lauder Spiced Coral or a creamy version of L'oreal Volcanic?
Gorgeous color! I don't know if it's the lipstick or what but your teeth are practically glowing white against it! Beautiful!
This lipstick line looks gorgeous! I'd buy Pink Dusk in a heartbeat if it was $45. :O That's a Chanel lipstick and a half! Tom Ford is fooling himself if he think his line is going to sell well with that price tag.
I bought three of theme on Monday; Vanilla Suede, True Coral and Smoke Red. I think I'll be going back for Pure Pink, Pink Dusk and maybe Cherry Lush next week!
very beautiful...I wish they werent so expensive....id love to see if maybe you can do a tom ford DUPE comparison post thanks!!!
that is incredibly beautiful. I remember when I heard Tom Ford's lipsticks were $45 I thought, "That's insane, why would anyone pay that, after all there are Chanels and YSLs for less!" but now, after I see this gorgeous lipstick on you - how smooth it looks, what rich color - I see that this lipstick may be worth the splurge. oh one day, when I'm no longer a student & have a job, I may buy one, thanks to your lovely post :-D
I'll say that when you DO try a lipstick that's $45-60 -- you will notice certain, subtle differences. Whether they make it worth the price increase is up to each individual, but over time, I've definitely seen nuances between the different formulas.
hi cristine....i have guerlain rouge g lipstick in #40(GIL) which is also coral..how is this Tom Ford's true coral lipstick compare to guerlain's #40 rouge lipstick?
It's part of branding - nothing by Tom Ford is cheap or affordable - that's why we have high-end/luxury brands.
Gorgeous color, but the price just isn't right. I've had my eye on MAC Vegas Volt for a while, so I'll just lie to my lips and tell them it is Tom Ford...
this is off topic but i was looking at the mac website and i noticed a couple of new pigments..neo orange, magenta madness, full force violet...maybe they arent new but its the first time ive seen them and i dont recall seeing them last time i went into a mac store...anyways have you tried any of these, are they available in mac stores???
I love these lipsticks! I was woundering how does the scent compare to mac? Scent is important to me (?) and I was woundering which you prefer? Thanks!
Ugh Christine, you make me want these sooo badly but I will never pay that much for a lipstick! At least I can admire them through your wonderful blog? :P
