The Scarlet Season: MAC New York Apple Lipstick
MAC New York Apple Lipstick ($14.00) is a classic berry-based red. It’s a deep raspberry red with lots of lighter raspberry shimmer. This has always been one of my favorite MAC lipstick shades, red or not, and it’s something that suits a lot of skin tones. It can be worn alone or topped with gloss for an extra kick. MAC lipsticks usually last four to six hours on me, depending on the finish (lustres wear off the fastest), and this one stays on for somewhere in-between–five hours or so. I love layering this with a gold gloss to make it perfect for the holidays!
What about you? Would you wear this red?
The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

Love this color on you Christine. So much so, I had someone pick it up for me yesterday. Cant wait until I get it.
It has been a while since I got this color. I loved it in the tube and in swatches on my hand, but not so much on my lips...it felt like something was missing. I found out on Saturday what that something was...Creme Allure Dazzleglass Cream! I love the two of them together! :D
I love NY apple, although it looks distinctly pink on me, rather than red. It's strange how shades can appear so differently on people.
I am not usually bold enough to wear a red lipstick, but I think that the raspberry shimmer in it takes it back a little bit to make it a little bit more acceptable. I love it.
This looks like the perfect red but I have thin lips and am terrified of red lipstick on them. Wish I had the lips to pull this off because I really love the color.
You know what? Try the Russian Red lipglass first to make your lips slightly 'fuller' looking, first. Or try a dark pink lipstick.
I am totally lemming this, I adore frosty raspberry reds, I'm NW15/NW20 and it seems like fate! But I'm on a no-buy. Any dupes out there that run cheap?
I gotta say, I usually stick to neutral lips but I really like this red!! Do you think it'll look okay with a heavier eyeliner look? Or is it definitely better paired with neutral eyes?
I have this lipstick. It is my very favorite red. It's the perfect shade for everyone and makes my teeth look whiter in contrast. I just love it! ttfn :) Yuki in chilly Silver Spring, Maryland
merry christmas christine! this is gorgeous on you. i'm so glad i found your blog and i hope i win a giveaway one of these days! xxoo
Hey Christine, how does NY Apple compare to Queen's Sin or Port Red? They look sort of similar... but beautiful!
It's way, way more berry-ish - it has more berry/raspberry in it, whereas both of those have a lot of red in them.
Wow, this is gorgeous! I have a few B2M empties, I'll make sure to get this lipstick with them when I next go to a Mac counter! Thanks Christine!
How did I not know about this stunning colour??? Hello boxing day pickup with my MAC gift card :) Thanks Christine!!! You introduce me to so many delicious products - I along with VISA thank you :) hehe
Hahaha, I'm sure VISA thanks you b/c I use their services to buy makeup! Lol bad habit :( I actually gave my bf my visa this holiday season as I have no self control!!! Lol so sad. So maybe my bf wants to frown at you! Lol not me though :)
Hey I really like this red. I don't really wear reds not because I don't like them they just seem to high maintenance for me. I would worry all the time about smearing and looking messy(maybe I have too many little girl playing w/granny's red lipstick memories). I have enjoyed the scarlet season however is there going to be a pink season coming? LOL. That would probably break my bank for sure!
But New York Apple is a really nice looking red on you Christine! And it's subtle; not too frosty and either the way you've applied it or the way the lipstick actually is, it looks slightly sheer in a good way too.
Oh! And a plum season perhaps? hahaha I know lipsticks can be a bit much after a while. Thanks for taking the time to lip swatch all of these BTW. =) helps so much!
