The Scarlet Season: MAC Check Please Lipglass

MAC Check Please Lipglass ($14.00 for 0.17 oz.) is just a sexy bright red lip with the slightest reddish-gold shimmer laced through a rather opaque red base. It’s definitely one of those, “Yeah, my lips are sexy, what are you going to do about it?” kind of shades. It’s one of my favorite lipglasses ever, because the formula is so smooth, rich, and easy to apply. I really wish MAC would re-release this shade or launch one just like it (I’m down with a dupe!), because it is truly a stunning red. The closest permanent shade would be Russian Red, but I’d say you’d have to add a smidgen of Desire to really get something similar.

The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

  5. Nadine says:

I LOVE this colour! Could you think of something similar in a lipstick? I hate that mac only has like 1 permanent red lipglass!

  6. amy says:

This is a pretty shade of red and another show stopper, but it Chanel Dragon is still my favourite so far. Check Please reminds me of maraschino cherries, it is cute.

  7. Lindah says:

this is gorgeous! MAC should really make some of their LE colors permanent!

  8. Christine shen says:

So pretty, I love it! Is Chanel Dragon still the leading red?

  9. stephanie says:

  10. Sexy Sadie says:

  11. Nic says:

  12. Chess says:

Oh my god, Christine, this is stunning. I’m totally serious about a petition for its rerelease! Heehee. Your lips look super sexy in this!

  13. Jennifer says:

beautiful color! you love your red lipsticks and gold eyeshadows-you are so meant to be a blushing indian bride =)

  14. Agnes says:

hey christine, could you do a scarlet season post on MAC’s Lady Danger?

    • Christine says:

I actually decided not to include — it’s a wee bit too orange than I’d like for the series, but also I have more than enough MAC shades (both LE and permanent) for the series!

  15. NaNa says:

I’m in love! Gimme that petition! :P

  16. L says:

Grrr, stop featuring discontinued things! I get so excited and then I can’t purchase it!

Ah well. I suppose it’s better for my bank account, anyway :)

    • Christine says:

LOL! When I first started the series, I was torn between only permanent or including some limited edition. Since I figured, at the end of the day, it’s more about all the different reds available… and how texture can play a part in how it looks… I went with it. But also because I love too many LE reds and wanted them to get some lurve!

  17. Az says:

Stunning (as always dear). I also want MAC to re-release it, though I know I can’t pull it off XD but CP rocks so much that I want to own one.

  18. Christina C says:

Love it! Thanks for reminding me about this color! I have it but haven’t used it in a while.

  19. Catherine says:

I love the color and I love the name!!

  20. Nicole says:

I’m scared to try red lips because I’m so used to nudes & pinks. Plus I’m afraid that I’ll look like a clown. What red lipstick/lipgloss do you suggest for someone who’s of Filipino descent, medium skin & dark brown/black hair?

  21. Rachel says:

This color is so pretty!! True red with gold sparkle? I want one too and I hardly want any lip product anymore. It’s really hard having your eye on something and knowing you’ll never get it, but i guess that’s why MAC’s so successful with its “limited” strategy!
