The Sultry Season: NYX Hero Lipstick
NYX Hero Lipstick ($4.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deepened neutral-cool blue-based red with a creamy, glossy finish and opaque color. My NYX Round Lipsticks seem to be scent-free overall, but I do have a few that were brand new and smelled a little on the plastic side, while a couple had more of a general perfume-y feel. I’m not entirely sure why there is so much variation across the board! I love the texture and feel of their Round Lipsticks, though; incredibly creamy and the darker shades are certainly quite pigmented. They do have a fair amount of slip, so they may bleed if you’re prone to to that, and I don’t find they last more than two to three hours, with darker shades on the three hour side and some leaving behind a soft stain.
Is this the right red for you? Would you wear it?
The Sultry Season is a series of posts featuring deep, rich shades of brown, berry, plum, and wine lipsticks and lipglosses — just right for autumn — that runs through October 2010.

Wow such a gorgeous color! What would you suggest wearing on the rest of the face with this lipstick Christine?
I just did a post on the NYX the goddess and also got y first nyx stuff, I really love how affordable and great these are. Hero is nice too.
Perfect fall red. Need something affordable in case I need a few...hit n miss trials with red lippie.
Wow-- never judge a lipstick by its color in the tube. It looks so much more like a deep plummy wine in the tube, but it's such a firebrick red on the lips! Amazing!
Have you ever done a video on how you apply your lipstick? And if not, will you please please please do one? :) I'm always amazed at how evenly you apply the color and - more operatively - how perfect the outer lines of the lip color are on you every single time :)
Hmmmm... I should buy this just for the name! It's not everyday you find a product with the same name as you hahaha
NOW I WANT that lipstick. LOL NYX has the best lipsticks b/c they are so creamy and moisterizing but the down side to that is they wear off easily.
brown? that looks pretty bright red to me... ;) i like it...but i haven't found nyx around here much...
Love Hero on you! You should also try electra, its a true, bright red, though more neutral than this one
Do you find that you can wear any shades of red? You look great in all the different reds you've shown in the Sultry Season. I'm C5 in MAC Face & Body with very yellow undertones and I want to try a bold red lip but I'm always worried that it might look weird on me.
I do, but I like myself better in blue-based reds over orange-based ones... but a lot of readers feel the opposite way, lol.
Hmm interesting. In the lipstick tube itself nd in the swatch it looks berry/berry toned but on the lips it's much more a true blue red. Thanks for the review :)
I've never been impressed with NYX lippies. I don't see what the hype is about. I don't think they cover that well. Not on my pigmented lips, anyway.
Love it!! It looks really nice on you! I really like NYX lipsticks, they are good quality and very inexpensive..
You look great in this. Yes, NYX lippies have weird waxy smells sometimes! I have a few of their black label lippies and love the moisturing qualities in that line. I'm willing to put up with the negatives as the price is so great. Thanks for the review, will put this on my shopping list!
NYX lipsticks are by far my favorite. I love the clean scent they have, it's almost intoxicating and the application is always so smooth and creamy I can just dab the same color on my cheeks as a blush color and it applies perfectly. Can you tell I'm crazy about them? Haha.
