NARS Joyous Red Lipstick
NARS Holiday 2011: Joyous Red Lipstick
Described as an “amber red,” NARS Joyous Red Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is an opaque, orange-red; it’s almost more of a coral-orange than it is a genuine take on red. MAC Drive Me Wild has a more apparent golden sheen, as does Lancome Groupie.
The finish has a very subtle shimmer and sheen, but it’s barely noticeable–but it is there, very fine gold micro-shimmer that catches light beautifully. Joyous Red has a creamy consistency that glides on easily and deposits rich, even color in a single pass. NARS lipsticks are scent- and taste-free, and Joyous Red wore for five hours on me before it started to fade (and needed reapplication after six hours, including a meal).
The Glossover
Beautiful color coverage, finish, and formula--it's so easy to apply and comfortable to wear, plus it wears for five to six hours!

Product & Review FAQ
Where can I purchase it? How much is it?
NARS, $24.
Is it limited edition?
Yes.
Any dupes?
MAC Drive Me Wild has a more apparent golden sheen, as does Lancome Groupie.
I love the shade, it's a great red. Unfortunately, it's staying power on me is very short, it lasts for about 2 hours withouth having any meal. Still think it's a must-have for the season.
I've got fair skin (with cool undertones), and yet I tried this on in Sephora and was amazed. It isn't too orange for me, and brings out my blue eyes. It also goes on fairly sheer, and can build into a deeper shade. I often just dab it on with my finger for a tinted look.
Does it feel drying, or moisturizing? I really like the color, but I dislike the way some lipsticks instantly dries out my lips..
L'Oreal's "Volcanic" looks very similar: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=2681#sku2047544
This shade actually looks a lot like NYX Round Lipstick in Herades (http://thechickinthemiddle.blogspot.com/2011/01/review-nyx-round-lipstick-in-herades.html) This could be great for those neesing a cheaper dupe. :)
Pretty! Though since I am a bit paler on you (though warm in tone) I know that would pull to orange on me ~ Gorgeous colour though <3
Personally not my color but still pretty. Although I have a feeling this will look good over my pale skin...
how would you compare to Chanel lipstick? Which one is better in terms of longwear and color? thanks, love your review :)
It's a great color, but looking at it, I think it's a little too warm for my cooler skin tone. It looks very good on you, though!
Christine what foundation/base to you have on in this pic? Something about it looks different than usual...maybe more glowy? Do you usually use MUFE HD for pics?
It's a really sheer layer of Make Up For Ever Lift. There is nothing I usually use - I use whatever I'm testing or is nearby if I'm not testing something in particular.
i bought this when it first came out. its my first red lipstick and I LOVE IT! i read somewhere that nars lipsticks go bad faster than regular lipsticks. i hope thats not true bc i plaon ordering a back up of this lipstick very soon.
This reminds me of Morgana Cryptoria's "Cat's Pajamas" -- which is also vegan and like half the price of NARS. :) I just got a tube of it yesterday, so it's on my mind!
I'm so glad I ordered this! The color was irresistable and with and A review on your website, it's a keeper! Thanks for reviewing. I can't wait for it to come in!
You make every lip color look nice -____-. I can't use bold red colors.. I don't know whether it's my complexion or what but I look like a drag queen. Or a little kid trying on her mother's lipstick.
It's funny, because this sort of colour seemed so rare and yet this season, NARS came out with this one and Guerlain came out with Gardner Rouge G, which is like the deeper, redder cousin. Both are beautiful. I already snagged Guerlain's version, but your review is making me think I need this one as well!
It looks lovely on you and the wear time sounds impressive, but I really don't need another coral - red lipstick as I have quite a few similar already. Must resist!
