Milani Black Cherry Lipstick
Milani Black Cherry Lipstick

The Sultry Season: Milani Black Cherry Lipstick

Milani Black Cherry Lipstick ($4.99 for 0.14 oz.) is a blackened berry-red with nearly opaque color–it did not apply quite as nicely as other Milani shades. It looks a little dry, though it didn’t feel that way, and the color seemed to get drawn into my lip lines.

my thoughts on the formula: Milani’s Color Perfect Lipstick is a nice formula that delivers opaque color and are usually creamy, though Black Cherry seemed rather dry and seemed to settle into lip lines. They do have a rather a synthetic/waxy scent, though, which may be too much for those with sensitive sniffers. I typically get three to four hours of wear on average with this formula.

  • Product: 24/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

final thoughts: It’s not my favorite Milani, just because the texture isn’t the same as other shades.  It’s not as creamy and doesn’t look as flattering when worn.

Product & Review FAQ

Where can I purchase Black Cherry? How much is it?

Milani, $4.99.

Is it limited edition?

Any dupes?

Bobbi Brown's Blackberry is very similar, perhaps not quite as red-based. It's just slightly darker than Make Up For Ever's #48.

What about Avon Black Cherry as a dupe also? Just a thought.

  2. Denise

I don´t like how it slips into the liplines. That´s a “no-go”, especially for such a dark color.

  3. Julie

I LOVE the color but not the formula. I’ll have to check out the products you listed under dupes.

ughhhhh so ready for the sultry season to be over. bring on the brights!

  5. What a shame about the formula, because that color is gorgeous! I can’t stand lipsticks that apply that way… Reminds me of Homegirl by Kat Von D as far as the way it looks patchy on the lip (a little bit in color, too, come to think of it…)

  6. It’s a shame it doesn’t look that nice on, this sort of color is right up my alley!

I saw this just the other day and wonder about its opacity. Thought it may be similar to a staple lipstick I love, cliniques black honey. So thank you for the post! Very timely coincident! Hope all is well with you and many thanks! :)

Pretty! Also thumbs up for saying “sensitive sniffers” lol

  12. Alison

I would probably buy it if it went on more evenly. Gorgeous color!

Christine do you rub your lips together at all before pics? I notice sometimes things seem to settle in lines (ie a few Korres items which never do that on me) but it’s hard to tell if it settled or applied that way. Since I always apply carefully it mainly matters if it settles vs initial application.

It reminds me a bit of MAC hang-up in the pic, though your swatch of hang-up doesn’t look similar at all(or similar to what it looks like in person, oddly), which is my fave. Really pretty color, I wish it weren’t so icky looking on!

It looks nice on you Christine and it’s a very pretty color but yes it gathers up on the crevices on your lips, yes.

  16. Adelita

I love red that is vampy-deep (but not almost berry-black) just like this. Too bad it settled into lip lines… :(

Anyway, I realize that lately you often write a review about red lipstick, which I love! Thanks Christine!!!

  17. It looks incredible in the bullet, but slightly disappointing on your lips…I didn’t think it’d be that sheer. Still, it suits the name.

  18. Amanda Blyskal

wow i wasn’t expecting it to be that red. i was thinking black haha

  19. Miss_Silk

    whoa…it’s wierd out it’s darker in the lines of your lips O__o;

  20. Karen

    oo very taylor momsen!!

  21. Do you think this is a dupe, or close color, to MAC’s Dark Deed lipstick? :)

(I think that’s what it’s called, it came out with Venomous Villains)

  22. That is a HOT color! Love it.

  23. Melissa

I liked that color on you!

  24. Vale

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful and wonderful. Even if, seeing the colour of the lipstick, I would have expected something darker…

  25. Crystal C.

I think this would be perfect for stage shows! I love it! 😉

  26. Sareena

Dark shade lipsticks looks so good on you :)

hi! im from Asia and I bought a Milani lipstick online and I was doubting its authenticity since I got it so cheap. I was wondering if you could describe to me the label at the bottom of the lipstick? or better yet. could you send me a picture? just to check if it matches mine. Thanks! You’d be of great help.

  28. Amy Atomic

Gorgeous color! However, the texture and wear sound disappointing. I generally like Milani’s lipsticks, however I hate the shape of the lipstick itself. It doesn’t lend itself to applying easily or well.
