MAC Spring Colour Forecast Review & Round-up
Note: I’ve bumped up this post as the official, in-store launch, is NOW UPON US! Spring Colour Forecast launches today, the 11th, in-stores in North America. :) Share your hauls!!
OVERALL, I think Spring Colour Forecast is so large that you’re bound to find at least one or two things that appeal to you. (If you don’t, kudos to you, and I want some of whatever you’re drinking!) It’s hard to pick must-haves, because it still ends up rattling off like a laundry list of products, so I’m just going to go with it, and you can pick and choose depending on what kind of budget you’re on. I know some of you have been saving up for this collection since last year! I do, personally, think MAC went a bit overboard with this collection–it’s just so, so enormous. There are too many products to look at, and I think the rumor about them releasing one per week may have given people an opportunity to feast and enjoy… rather than feast and DEVOUR!
The release date is officially February 11th, but since it’s already online, it may have been moved up by a week to February 4th. Call your local store either today (2/3) or tomorrow (2/4) to see if they’re putting it out early. I’ve asked around, and I’ve only been able to confirm February 11th, but sometimes these are really last minute changes! But call first, so you don’t waste a trip. :)

I’m really impressed with the lipsticks and I think I might cave on Fresh Salmon… but I probably have to go try it on since lustres have a tendency to not show up on my lips. I’m also super lemming the gold quad. Wish the blushes were a bit more impressive though.

i just placed an order for mostly neutrals…i might get a couple of the lilyland blushes, but it’ll have to depend on how my wallet feels later this month!
i think considering how extensive the spring forecast collection is, its a relief after seeing your reviews, i can probably knock most of the lip products off my list…but that still leaves quite a bit! i was writing a running list as i went through your posts…and it. is. massive.
anyway, thanks very much for these very helpful posts! it will be interesting to see how you incorporate the colours into new looks for spring.

Thursday, February 11, 2010The blushes have a very interesting texture that makes then unlike MAC’s permanent blush range. They’re more matte, I guess. As far as the lipsticks go, here are the dupes that come to mind, but just know that they’re not 100% similar (not even 80% in most cases)… Pink Burst = Impassioned, Bubblegum = Snob; Laugh-a-lot = Plumful; Phlox = none; Radicchio = Plumful, Rose Maiden = Costa Chic; Fresh Salmon = See Sheer; Victorian = Pink Nouveau; Colour Me Coral = none

I hadn’t even realized how much until I was on the phone with MACPro in San Francisco this morning and I WOULD NOT order until I saw the lip swatches on your site. I actually called them back – I needed to wait until I could see them and read what you had to say! So first things first, THANK YOU!
I ended up getting away without spending much money at all. I ordered Electric Fuchsia and Almondine lipglasses (I generally don’t care for lipglasses but I told myself last week I would give them another shot and these seem like a good place to start). The only other thing I grabbed was Hot Hot Hot eyeshadow.
Thankfully (for my bank account) nothing really struck me as “I have to have it!” I’m a lipstick FREAK but I like a lot of color and these just felt so-so to me (but what do I know, I’m wearing blue LipMix on my lips today) LOL!
I’m interested in the Blush Ombres but will wait until the collection launches to take a look at them in person at my local MAC store. They’ve already got two strikes against them: I like PIGMENTED blushes and I don’t like things that have to be kept in compacts (I prefer palettes). So we’ll see, I might just save my money for the blushes in the Too Fabulous collection – If I’m going to buy something JUST because it looks cool, they’ll definitely be on my list :)

Tuesday, February 2, 2010Oh you’re welcome but thank you more! :) I’m still interested in some of the products but not enough to want them right now! I will definitely check them out when they show up at the MAC counter here in Oly.
The woman at MAC said that there are a lot of really cool products coming out this summer that are probably more up my alley (bright, opaque colors, etc.) So I’ll be saving… Who am I kidding… I’ll be spending my money on other things until then :)
I will say this: the 130 brush that’s coming out this month? Oh yeah, I’m getting AT LEAST two of those puppies! :) I’m hoping it’s the bastard offspring of a 188 and 109 brush – If so I’m all over that!!! :)

Tuesday, February 2, 2010I’ve only been into MAC since Dame Edna was released, and I wasn’t really into spending much on makeup way back then, so it’s different now I guess. But this is still the first collection I’ve wanted a huge ton from. The most I have from any other one collection is a lipglass, MSF, brush and 5 eyeshadows from BBR (mostly collected from CCOs). From this? I probably won’t get more than 3-4 items, but I’m gonna have to choose from:
Fresh Salmon, Rose Maiden, Bubble Gum, and Radicchio lipsticks
Purple Rage, Gold Dust, Kumquat, and Ember Glow lipglasses
Rosy Outlook, Very Violet, La La, Hot Hot Hot, Straw Harvest, and Perky eyeshadows

It was an impluse purchase. Nice colors but not unique. Instead I’m picking up straw harvest and maybe hush hush rose.

The lipsticks, i really haven’t started thinking about too much, since they always look so different on, it’ll just be “whichever one jumps out at me most”. I also don’t use a lot of lip glasses, but could be tempted if it looks really awesome.
I doubt I’ll buy ALL of that, i’m sure some of them I will dislike the texture, or they won’t be as easy to work wtih as I want, or something. But those are the ones i know i want a serious look at!

Thursday, February 4, 2010Both? Its the anniversary, so the boy promised to get me some stuff from it. i haven’t asked what his budget is, but I’m assuming I may end up putting my own money into it too, and thats OK.
I honestly could just use a pick me up right now, so a huge haul sounds awesome! Particularly since I placed my first order with Fyrinae and that has another 3 weeks till it comes(they custom MAKE the makeup after you order, it looks really cool).
Instant gratification FTW though!
Side note-do you know anywhere that sells medium quantities of the little metal pans for pressing pigments? Like, 30-50? THe one site I found had them either 15, or 100. I just want somewhere in between that, heh.

Eyeshadows: Rosy outlook for sure and maybe lala * very violet.
I love all the lipsticks but seeing as how most have warm/gold tint to them I can’t get away with it. I am very fair and teeth are NOT very white *blushes* so it’s very hard for me to find a lip color that doesn’t bring out the yellow in my teeth.
I picked up the Warm me Up lipstick and it’s not working because of that =(
I’m thinking I may need to go with cooler toned lipsticks.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010This collection is crazy! I want SO MUCH in it, and there’s never been a time when I was more poor and unable to buy any. It’s so hard! Why do they do this to us? Why such a HUGE collection and one right after another? They know there’s die-hard collectors out there that’ll pay whatever to get it all and it’s hard times right now. I know they’re trying to make money, but damn! It sucks for the rest of us.
But it IS awesome that they sent it all to you! At least because of that, we all get good swatches (you’re the queen ‘o swatches, girl!) and get to see things close up!
But I have to ask, it seems like in the past you always had to buy the stuff, is this the first time they sent you the whole collex gratis? If so, it’s nice to see a good blogger getting free samples so that we get a chance to see all this stuff! (unlike when they send to beauty magazines and it just gets wasted)

However from yr swatches it seems the opposite? ChaCha looks more cool tones with pink and fuscia while hush Hush more goldenish?
Do I have to go to the eye doctor again?

All the blushes are very pretty and very unique, the shadows are so very pigmented and versatile, and lipstick are very nice. This is probably the first mac collection where I liked almost all lipsticks and lip glasses. I am very happy!

Only just went through all of this stuff, I want so much of it soo bad, made a list of all I wanted and calculated the cost of it on my lunch break today… its almost an entire months rent!! good lord!! Pinks, bronzes and purples are my biggest weakness… so this collection really knocks that on the head!! I haven’t decided if the fact that the collection launches the same day I get my wisdom teeth pulled is a good thing or not… not being able to go and spend money = good, not being able to go play with it = bad… :S

By the way, you totally saved me from buying Phlox. I love the colour of the lipstick itself and the name is awesome, but if it doesn’t have any colour payout then what’s the point?
My revised list is:

3. Fresh Salmon l/s (you totally talked me into this one)
4. Azalea Blossom blush ombre
5. and either Bubblegum or Rose Maiden l/s (I need to try them first)
I wish I could get the plum quad, but it’s not a good deal for me as I would only use two of the colours (Mink Pink and Bruised Plum).

Needless to say I will be there b/c the best way to keep from buying stuff is to swatch them on my skin. Then again, the stuff may look great on me and I’ll be in real trouble!

I also bought the 4 stack pigments. Awesome Awesome Awesome! I wasn’t too impressed with the purple and amber quads but the Ombres left me yearning. It was so much fun!

Some of those lipsticks are nice, too, but I know I’d never wear them if I bought them since I’m prejudiced against lipsticks, haha. I like the colour 4 quad too, but I feel like I already have similar dupes for every single one of the colours.
Oddly enough I am totally meh about the blushes, and I normally love blushes.

Thursday, February 11, 2010Ugh – I just hauled purple rage, rose maiden (LOVE and am contemplating a back-up), and pink burst. And I also got VIva Cyndi. When I go back I’ll probably get bronzilla, hush hush rose, and try out fresh salmon and raddicio… I am not quite sure whether the stacks are worth it for me because I already have somewhat duplicable colors – but I really like them. The makeup artist said that they don’t crease all day… but everything creases on me even with UDPP so I’m not very optimistic.

Glad I swatched. Straw harvest was too yellow on me, wasn’t thrilled with nanogold. the Peach blush was WAY too orange on my pink paleness. Decided very violet is similar to the vibrant grape that isn’t limited edition, and lala is similar to a few of the pinks I already own from other lines.
I just went with tones I had the least of.
I also loved laughalot lipstick, and rose maiden(?) lipstick. Really tried to weed though. I totally broke my budget!
