MAC Cosmetics Make-Up Art Cosmetics Fall ‘09 As Seen By Maira Kalman (Illustrator)

Famous for her whimsical visual diaries, Maira Kalman performed a bit of magic with M·A·C’s new Technakohl Eye Liners and Eye Shadows, instantly drafting a captivating look at a stranger. Cheeky, witty, always amusing, Maira’s illustrations are cute and colourful, wonderfully child-like, playful…and sophisticated all at once. Warm and eccentric at the same time, Maira’s faces are full of cock-eyed optimism, with the tiniest smidge of city-girl-snobbism…simply, scrumptiously, stupendously sublime!

This is disappointing–I’m a huge eyeliner girl but none of those are shades that appeal to me at all!

this is definitely my favorite part of the collection, ESPECIALLY the single shadows (i plan on getting all of them), i know people are gonna shoot me for this, but the quads dont appeal to me

im more of a color type of girl(:

    I want:
    - all the technakohls except the black one (which I already own)
    - Crest The Wave e/s
    Purple Shower e/s
(I already own Violet Trance & Haunting) and, after swatching Maira’s Maagic, it turns out to be almost identical to Cupcake but a lot less pigmented, so I passed. I found that Off The Page is also very similar to Fab & Flashy which I own as well, so I passed on this one too!

I love all the colors but I’m wondering what the dupe would be for purple shower? (I may already have it). I’m debating about violet trance…IDK if it will be pratical for me b/c I work in an admin office postion. Any ideas?

I think I may get Purple Shower, Crest the Wave, Off the Page and Haunting. I have so many pinks right now that I can’t really justify getting Maira’s Magic. Violet Trance, based on other’s swatches looks a lot like Stylin from the HK Lucky Tom Palette that I have.

does anyone know if the mac eye khols are similar to the barry m ones/urban decay?

or would you say the blue mac Technakohl Liner is similar to urban decay 24/7 pencil in Electric: bright aquamarine or the barry m kingfisher blue Intense Eyeliner Pens

hi there does anyone know how similar Crest the Wave from this collection is to the style warriors yellow shade called Bright Future which was a Frosty bright yellow gold?? and how similar is Violet Trance to style warriors Vibrant Grape???x

    • kpenn

      Thursday, August 20, 2009

Can’t comment on the yellow ones, but I have Vibrant Grape and it’s quite a bit more magenta than Violet Trance. Violet Trance is a much more blue-ish purple (leaning towards an indigo), as opposed to the pinker undertones of Vibrant Grape. There’s definitely enough of a difference to invest both!

I love the liners but how would you where them??

I’m planning on putting mine aside for next summer and just wearing them by themselves with dark lashes. They’re bold enough to stand on their own, or you could definitely go really funky and spice up a smokey eye by lining your water line with like the blue or lime. They will really draw attention to your eyes either way!

As a base, lower lash line, upper lash line..

I got Off the Page as a gift from my MUA friend – she said she wanted to see what I would do with shimmery bright orange! It is a gorgeous color, and I’m planning to get the Reflects Copper glitter to go with it.

I also got the lime green technakohl (awesome in the waterline, especially paired with Rated R on the lid) and On Display Lipglass. I hadn’t expected to like this collection so much, but the colors are really fabulous to work with!

i was dissapointed with this collection :( I found the lipsticks too light on my nc40 skintone i was most interested in hold the pose and that was so faint that it was no point in my opionion. the lipglasses could be duped by the perm line. I only 1 L/G i picked up was personal taste as I dnt own anything like this in my collection. the single e/s were really chalky and hard to swatch! i was most interested in haunting but I already owned Urban decay matte e/s in Narcotic which is the same but much more easier to swatch!!the rest could be duped by other colours I owned or colours i have from urban decay. the liners werenot very soft to swatch and broke and could be duped by barry m, gosh and urbandecay colours. all i got was the photo realism quad, Heritage Rouge PM,uncommon creme blush x
