what’s the point of this collection?
hd for consumers? sounds like hyped-up nonsense. the hd ‘tricks’ are things everyone who wears makeup should know anyway.

    • Exactly! Provided it photographs well (doesn’t have light reflecting particles, for instance)then if it looks good in person, it’s going to look good on camera.

I’ve been a professional MUA for over a decade, I do models for commercial shoots that are blown WAY up for billboards- if your model’s face is going to be 10 feet tall, you’d better make sure she looks perfect! I use the same type of products I have for years, there’s not a thing in my kit labled HD.

  11. Zoila

    Everything is permanent. -_-
Except the lippies, which the only one I want is High Def.
    Not a good collection.

  12. AYHM

Glad to see Face and Body Foundation make it to perm – – don’t miss this girls, it is nice to use alone if you like sheer or as a base for your normal foundation (learned this from my MAC Artist friend) – it gives a really nice look.

  13. Wilcoa

I was expecting a new foundation or something. Ah well, saves my wallet crying :)

  14. tess

    • yeah, but that’s basically using 2 foundations- why not use a fuller coverage foundation to begin with? Ayhm, I’m curious about what benefit your friend sees to the layering method?

      • AYHM

Jessica Allison, great point if you like fuller coverage. Yes, you can use Face and Body alone if you like a more sheer foundation (this is the way I like to wear it) or if you use it with your regular foundation I think it provides for a more natural color match in some cases and also may allow you to use less full coverage if you want some natural skin to show through. Similiar to the effects of YSL Teint Parfait if you are familiar.

  15. MAC needs a site where people can give them ideas because they obviously have run out. I have many ideas for them…how about you guys? I think they need to hear us customers out…they need to know what we want to see so we spend. Lately their collections suck except for a lippstick here and there. here are some examples:
    * Lipgloss with actual color…very pigmented.
    * Warm tones of lipstick, like warm peachy pinks that have good pigment not lustres.
    * they know we buy baby pink lipsticks like st.germain and colorcraft so why not have more baby pinks in all different finishes cause we’ll buy them…but they always run out or are limited…what the hey?
    * different brushes..like small travel brushes that are just as good as the big ones. All they have to do is make the handles shorter !!
    * How about brush stands, lipstick stands and makeup organizers
    * how about four shadow pallets that are actually small instead of those big honking ones they have
    * How about glosses in different flavours
    * Powders for finishing with actual coverage in loose form
    * How about a moviestar glamour line
    * How about a collection with glamorous packaging, gold, silver
    * How about a pink girlie collection other than Barbie…hey we’d all buy it
Thanks for hearing me out :) Remember to write Mac about it !!

    • Lily

      I SECOND THAT EMOtioN!!!
a makeup organizer would sell out in 5 minutes
we all need one, or two, or three

and they should bring Barbie back!!! oR someone fun like Betsey Johnson
      to do cute packaging…

      • Chase

I agree! MAC needs some better ideas! And I think I’m gonna vomit if I see another collection filled with lustre lipsticks and mineralize eyeshadows. Those are my two least favorite MAC products but lately they have been coming out with a ton of them.
What I’d like to see from MAC is more duochrome lipsticks like lollipop loving.
They should make more Amplified Creme lipsticks too.

    • Nubia

I totally agree with Monika! MAC has too many limited additions. I guess it is part of a marketing scheme for the MAC addicts to run out and buy as many and as fast as they can. The packaging should change too. They should have a different look or color for blush palettes and eye palettes. The lipsticks/glosses should be more pigmented as well. I am so glad they did the Mac cosmetics website over, now they need to redo the Macpro site. They can also add to the lip liners they have. I am getting a bit bored with the selection.

Also, they should think about putting in a sample of something when placing an order online like many of the other cosmetic places. A small sample of a pigment or something would be great. Soooo many thoughts and ideas. I love MAC (a bit too much for my pocket) but they do need a makeover.

      • erica

MAC is a brand designed for makeup artists. It is up to you to develop new ways to use the products. Keeping that in mind the reason for limited EDITION products is as trends in clothing changes and evolves from season to season so do makeup trends. You wouldn’t necessarily use St. Germain lipstick in the winter now would you? You should really rely on trend reports i.e. WWD magazine to give you ideas about how runway trends influence what colors are created for each upcoming collection. It would really give you some insight about how much time, detail and creativity it entails to create these collections,it’s not about the consumer demand. MAC is responsible for creating the vast majority of the looks seen on the runway and it’s amazing that a cosmetic company has such huge has influence in fashion and cosmetics. They model the looks that you try to mimic and create with limited ability. You should read up on it before you make such a limited judgement about the collections. And as stated from other bloggers you do have other choices. Step outside of the box…….

    • Guys, I know I’m stating the obvious, but there are other lines that do all of these things- MAC is not the only makeup brand out there. I promise, the company is not this loyal to you as a consumer, so you really needn’t be as a customer. Use MAC for what they’re good at, but branch out for your other needs.

I think this collection is a bit unnecessary and not to mention a little boring. What’s the point of releasing a collection if 90% of it is perm?

Personally I think MAC is going way overboard when it comes to releasing new collections. Four of five LE collections per month is just WAY to much !!

I wish they would release 4 seasonal collections and a holiday collection per year and one or two extra collections (like Icon, Barbie, Fafi), that would do it for me.

    • cmferrets

yes i totally agree too. mac has gotten way out of hand this year alone. i wish they made their collections more unique- what ever happened to mac having their special packaging? i think they only did that twice this year(hello kitty and style warriors). they should only come out with 1 every month , or every other month, and then one big one like every 3-4 months. COME ON MAC, GIVE US SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO AND TO SAVE UP FOR! im sure if they did that , then more people would be likely to buy more from them (b/c they saved up, esp in this economy). i want barbie and playboy to come back.

    • cmferrets

im still mad about that naked honey collection, i think the whole makeup collection with it was so unnecessary= b/c the colors looked exactly like what they came out with style warriors b4 it

  17. brenda

Thank you for putting the Canadian prices up!!!!

  18. decha

completely agree on the lipgloss with more pigment and quit with all of the lustres!!!!!!! if i wanted sheer, i’d just wear lipgloss. how pretty the red would be if it was amplified or satin formula instead of lustre! same with the august collection lipsticks, almost all lustre. you know why, because the color is the most expensive ingredient. the rest is oils and such. the more pigmnet, the more costly to make. oh wait and for the dsquared collection, two more lustres. i’m getting annoyed just writing this. i expect more from mac (the brand).

  19. sf

I definitely have a lot of ideas for mac, unfortunately I am not excited for any of the upcoming collections. How much black lipstick/lipgloss/es does someone need? This collection is minimal and not exciting…the MAC collection that just came out is not that exciting either…the good stuff came out at the beginning of the yr up to Naked Honey.Anyway I want to see unique colors and Lavendar Whip/St Germain perm. I am pining for some new perm lippies

  20. Heather

I am starting to become impossibly tired of the same mineralized cosmetics everywhere and was looking forward to something wowing and just have not found it. Last collection the quads were amazing, but still blaah.

  21. Hannah Rose

Close to real, yesss thats all. HOOPLA no extra savings!!!

  22. Bridgette

I honestly think that if MAC is going to release a High Def Collection it should come out with new product like a high definition med/full coverage foundation so MAC can compete with MUFE and Smashbox.

  23. Most likely gonna skip this :)

  24. The collection is out on the website right now!
    Not getting anything 😀

  25. Johana

Where are the swatches for the lippies?

  26. Melissa

LOVE the lip color on the model in that first photo entitled “MAC In High Def Collection for Fall 2009 Info & Photos”.

Tiffany (or anyone), do you know the name of that rich, wine-berry-burgundy color? OMG, I MUST have it!

As always, thank you, Tiffany, for sharing your knowledge and expertise. <3
