MAC Casual Colour: Nail Lacquers

MAC Casual Colour features four shades of MAC Nail Lacquer ($16.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.), and these shades are: Delicate (pale sheer ballet pink), Fiestaware (mid-tone orange coral), Please Me (mid-tone warm pink), and Style Tip (soft pink nude).

  • Delicate is a sheer, pale white-pink. It’s really a your-nails-but-better kind of color–it brightens and adds a pink-tinge to nails, along with a glossy finish. It has a jelly-like finish and consistency. It’s sheer after two coats, but it’s supposed to be that way. Essie Rock Candy is very similar. Essie Pop Art Pink is much darker. Nubar Pink Lily is an opaque version. Cult Nails Enticing is also very similar.
  • Fiestaware is a barely coral-tinted orange with a cream finish. It’s mostly opaque after two coats. I didn’t have any formula issues with this one. Nails Inc. Porchester Place is more orange. MAC Razzledazzler is lighter.
  • Please Me is a medium pink with yellow undertones and a cream finish. It’s opaque in two coats, but it did have some slight streaking in the initial coat. I used a thicker second coat, which helped cover the majority of the streaks. I reviewed it here.
  • Style Tip is a warm light-medium beige with rosy undertones. It’s opaque after two coats. It’s a little thick, so the initial coat is a bit streaky. Chanel Tendresse is similar, slightly lighter. MAC Myth is peachier.

The new (and limited edition) shades from Casual Colour are definitely better performing than the shades from Beth Ditto!  Delicate will appeal to a very specific audience, but it’s really lovely on nails in a soft, natural way that’s work-friendly and pretty much all-occasion appropriate. It’s not exciting, and Cult Nails‘ version is very similar but better and more versatile (as it is more buildable).  Fiestaware applies easily and evenly, so from a quality standpoint, that was the best out of this set.

Y’know, Fiestaware looks alot like Malibu Peach from the 2010 Spring Colour collection but not quite as pretty.  I decided to give up on the MAC nail polishes because they are getting too expensive and performing merely so-so.

I like Delicate and Style Tip ( reminds me of Rose Caché from Chanel ), but I think M.A.C nail polishes are really like budget polishes and even budget are often much better ! I use Chanel, Nars, Essie, Sally Hansen, YSL, OPI, definitely I will try M.A.C only if there is a gorgeous shade. I am much impressed by Nars pigments, the collection itself has around 30 nail polishes, M.A.C here had very few polishes, now there is a true collection but prices/colours keep me away.

@Dominique33 If you like Delicate, look for OPI Are you calling me a lyre. I have that one and it looks pretty much exactly like Delicate. At least it’ll save you some money if you choose the OPI one.

Thank you very much, is it part of the NYCB collection or permanent ? We don’t have all shades here and the NYCB hasn’t come yet if it ever comes. I found 2 very delicates shades this spring : Trouville from Nars and Shell we dance from Sally Hansen. But I’ll check out ” are you calling me a lyre ” ?

I don’t understand why MAC, and other companies that manufacture expensive but crappy nail polished, can’t figure this out. They sure are making some crappy business decisions.

They’re all quite pretty but so easily dupeable I don’t see the point. PLus I’m not a huge fan of MAC polishes, I’d much rather have Illamasqua or OPI or Nails Inc. Half of the time even really cheap high street brands like Barry M and Revlon do better polishes than MAC.
