Deborah Lippmann Bad Romance Nail Lacquer
A lil’ Lady Gaga for your nails…
Deborah Lippmann Bad Romance Nail Lacquer ($18.00 for 0.5 oz.) has a black-burgundy jelly base with regular fuchsia glitter and hexagonal glitter. I was able to get a very opaque look with three coats, but I didn’t get as many hexagonal pieces as I’d like on each nail. The key is definitely to let each coat dry longer, so that you don’t drag any of the glitter elsewhere. I’d also recommend doing one or two strokes for each coat, because each time you move the brush, you can displace some of the glitter, and get a patchier look. The drying time seemed a little shorter than average, and it had a slightly glossy finish even without a top coat.
P.S. — China Glaze’s Mummy May I is very, very similar, but it doesn’t have the hexagonal glitter bits!

RECOMMENDATION: I like it — it’s pretty and dark and great for fall. It doesn’t knock my socks off quite like some other Lippmann shades have in the past. Perhaps it’s because the glitter is the same color, despite the shape differences.

Revlon recently released a pretty good dupe of this called Facets of Fuchsia for those of you who aren't up for paying $20+ for a nail polish.
the color looks so beautiful. i'd love that color on my nails. since i am a huge lady gaga fan, i like the name! but i don't see myself buying this polish, because of its price.
Since when did nail polish start costing more than $9 a bottle?! I mean, OPI was the first expensive nail polish I bought, I usually just bought whatever walmart carried and that was probably around $4 or $5. I did splurge on Chanel's Paradoxel, it is unlike anything else I have in my array of colors. This Bad Romance looks like it is more black than purple, and it extremely shiny looking (unless that's just from a top coat you used). How does this compare to OPI by Sephora's "Just a little dangerous"?
Hey Liz, I don't own any OPIs, sorry! Just like makeup, there are now high-end brands of nail care/polish, as the market for nail polish has changed and opened up with customers who want lines like Lippmann, Rescue Beauty Lounge, etc.
The product on the nail isn't *quite* what I was expecting (I guess I expected more purple-ness and glitter) but it's still very pretty. I think this will be lovely in Fall/Winter :D
ugh why am i so hopelessly addicted to anything with a gaga-esque name?! i want this! also, NARS has a varnish called pokerface and a lipstick called petit monstre and i want em all just for the gaga. what is my life
I've been hearing so much about this color and I actually saw it today! its quite lovely but more than I am willing to spend considering the china glaze is so close. but i love the name!!
When are you going to review the new OPI Swiss Collection?! I really want to know what your favorite colors are!!
i LOVE the way it looks in the bottle. I have Across the Universe and I love the packaging, the look, everything! I loved it in the swatches that other bloggers had up. It looks goregous. But when I took it home myself it was a horrendous mess :( perhaps I better shape up my nail polish painting skills before i try it out again.
I want your love and I want your revenge You and me could write a bad romance I want your love and All your lover's revenge You and me could write a bad romance -Lady Gaga, "Bad Romance" SOMEONE had to do it and I figured it might as well be me. I need to stop listening to that song on repeat. It cannot be healthy that every time I see the words "Bad Romance" together, the song begins to play in my mind. It's a beautiful color, but the price does not appeal to me. $14 is my limit.
I agree with you on the glitter.. Maybe if they did two tones of purple.. Or even a brighter purple.. Seems to me the glitter isn't that dense either.. Kinda normal and bland for a polish that was supposedly inspired by Lady Gaga.. I would have expected something wilder or more "out of the box".. Anyways.. I wanna congratulate you for being featured in Ceci (a Korean magazine) in their August issue.. ^_^ Keep up the great work!
I just want this for the name. I love that song and I love lady gaga. However I do have a nail polish very similar to this. It's made by OPI and was made specially for ULTA. I can't remember what holiday season but I love that polish.
This is right up my alley! I think I'll go the cheap route though and get China Glaze Mummy May I from their Halloween collection. It's pretty much the same thing but without hexagonal glitter.
Pretty, but not amazing. It makes me think of MAC Baby Both Girl prior to the glitter being ground up finer.
Purple is my favorite color and anything with glitter, although a pain to take off, is LOVE. This color will be great for fall :)
The name only makes me want to get it, and the color is fabulous! (yes, I'm a Gaga fan and Bad Romance is my fave song of hers ever)
I only picked up ATU but now after seeing your BR swatches I'm gonna order a bottle! Glad to see BR back on Nordstrom's website again (this shade sold out the first time around).
Yes, it's similar (but no hexagonal glitter) to Mummy May I: http://www.temptalia.com/china-glaze-awakening-collection-review-photos-swatches-fall-2010
