Not Quite Summer:  Chanel Darling Rouge Allure Lipstick

Chanel Darling (#30) Rouge Allure Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a soft, squishy, kind-of-jelly-ish pink.  It adds some color, but it’s still on the sheerer side (particularly for a Rouge Allure).  It has a very glossy finish and feel–almost like a Hydrabase lipstick, actually–so it feels moisturizing and has more of a lip balm feel, though it does give my lips noticeable pinkness.  It’s a very muted, toned down pink that’s easily wearable by both cool and warmer skin tones, because it will take on many of the characteristics of your natural lip color.  When my Chanel artist showed me the sheet of products for Summer, I saw Darling on the list so I asked her to set it aside (along with Genial) for me, but it just doesn’t seem to fit with the launch.  It fits even less so when set against the brightness and vibrancy of Genial and Super.

Recommendation:  If you’re in the market for a sheer tinge of pink in the simplicity of a lipstick but with the feel of a lightweight balm, you might like Darling.

Availability:   Nordstrom (By the by, Nordstrom still has Genial!)

I love this lipstick but it's been discontinued! ;-(

Does this shade last well?

I get about three hours of wear or so.

is this shade limited edition? or are they adding it to the permanent range?

I believe it's permanent!

Christine, I can't seem to find this one anywhere :( Do you know if this shade is still available? THanks

ahhhh gorgeous shade! BUT for $30 thats soooooo out of my budget >,<

It looks really unique to me :O

I like it, it's very soft and natural.

not a bright pink!!! this is also great!!! already started buying my summer pink lipsticks, and this onw I have to chek!!!

This is so lovely. I am going to swatch it in person. Christine: what blush are you wearing here? I need a new neutral blush for every day thats not pink or peach thanks :)

Guerlain's Blonde Bronzer!

i love this color because it seems so wearable :) but it is kind of expensive...

That color is so sweet looking

Pretty shade! How does the color compare to UD Rush?

Similar! This is a little paler.

Thanks, that's exactly the answer I was hoping for! :D Getting this for sure.

You could try Urban Decay's Rush or MAC's Angel.

Darling is one of those colors that can be tossed in a purse and reapplied without the aide of a mirror. I love it for its low keyed, laid back look. I have medium pink pigmented lips so on me Darling doesn't give color so much as a smooth satin polish.

It's definitely that kind of a shade! For $30 AND from Rouge Allure, though, I kind of expect a bit more pigmentation, though! I don't know if I've ever seen an *ugly* shade by Chanel, LOL.

I love this - I'm going to have to have it! Thanks for the review

How does it compare to Urban Decay Rush or Naked lipsticks?

It's similar to Rush - I'd say a little more opaque and cooler.

I think this is stunning on you but as my lips are ridiculously pigmented (it looks like I have benetint on all the time) it's no good for me. Well, that and the price of course!

Darling looks very work appropriate.. I've been looking for something to add some colour to my lips but not be too noticeable since I work in a conservative office. I find it so hard to strike a balance between looking young & fresh and looking professional and serious...

So pretty - I already know this would look nothing like that on me!

Is this similar to Lancome Love it! lipstick?? I like it -- a pretty, soft pinky shade for summer!

Yep, it's a bit like it! :)

Great shade! I really like pastel pinks once in a while. :)

this is pretty and all but id rather have something with some pgmentation if im gonna shell out $30 for a chanel

A more expensive version of GOSH Darling.

I have to say, GOSH Darling looks nothing like that on me! GOSH Darling is so nude but Chanel looks very wearable.

So what's this about genial? Is it selling out everywhere??

This is an A+ on you! Great colour! I went on a make-up diet, to restore my skin. Works. Will surely get myself a new Chanel Allure lipstick after finishing!

Darling is a re-promote; I've had it for about a year and a half at least. If you have color similar to mine (super-pale, lips that are barely pigmented), Darling is the perfect neutral pink and actually provides pretty good pigmentation (at least for the version I have). But if you're even slightly darker or have pigmented lips, it will probably not be a favorite. And yes, I did think it was an odd inclusion for this current collection. I bought Super and Genial, but they will be for very different kinds of looks than Darling :).
