Burberry Makeup Coming Soon!

“[Burberry Beauty] is completely integrated with everything else we do with the brand and with the company,” said Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s chief creative officer. “It started because I felt that, at shows and the shoots, the whole [Burberry] attitude is epitomized through the shoes, the bags, the clothes, the accessories, but then the face was the one thing I really struggled with. When we were doing makeup, I felt like we weren’t able to get the right attitude. It was either caked-on makeup or then just the wrong colors, the wrong tones, the wrong spirit for makeup. I wanted it to be this kind of effortless elegance.”

According to WWD, Burberry will be launching Burberry Beauty in July. It features a 96-unit makeup line, with everything inspired by “th brand’s iconic trenchcoat.”

The trench swayed the designer’s choice of makeup shades, too. “I liked the idea of taking the trenchcoat and the weather as the two things that influence and define the colors,” said Bailey. “You’ve got the naturals from the trenchcoats and from the weather you’ve got these beautiful stormy grays and stormy blues. Then, when the sun comes out, you’ve got this glow and you’ve got lighter tones, as well.”

Initial distribution will include 30 doors worldwide at select Harrods (UK), Nordstrom (US), and Lane Crawford (HK). They expect to expand reach by an additional 30 to 40 doors next year. Pricing looks like we’ll see the line retail around other high-end designer brands like Chanel, Dior, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Yay or nay?

  2. MsDee says:

I like the cases except for the lipstick. maybe it will look better in person, but it just looks bulky in the picture.

  3. YJ says:

I’m kind of loving the packaging!

  4. Pam says:

i like how the lipstick has little squares imprinted on them…

  5. Evelyn says:

mm I don’t know, I mean why go into a makeup line? Are they making anything better than what other lines are offering? I would think the market would be limited to Burberry addicts only.

    • kristina says:

I am not a Burberry addict, although I enjoy my cashmere scarf and cufflinks very much, and I am very interested in this upcoming line. Just think if Chanel, YSL and Armani limited themselves to just apparel we would be missing out on some incredible products :)

  6. starr says:

  7. Sexy Sadie says:

  9. Emma says:

This was very nice, want to try it out :)

  10. Marcela says:

This is exciting, but their makeup line will probably cost an arm and a leg, their prices will probably be in the same range as Dolce & Gabbana or Versace…IMO though.

  11. Babybubblz says:

    Love the imprint design!

  12. Stephanie says:

I love the imprint on the lipsticks.. So cute.

  13. Bridgette says:

Yes! I love Burberry (except the fact that they use real fur but thats a different topic), Im excited to see that they are coming out with a make up line. I cannot wait to try their stuff out. And the packaging is nice and simple.

  14. Annu says:

    I can’t wait!! I love the brand!

  15. Ryan says:

I own nothing from burberry and am not intersted in there clothing at all… But I gotta say I LOVE the packaging! Im not really big into the plaid but I love the glossy metal with the greenish-grey cast… fabulous! If I ever launched my own cosmetics line I would definetly go more this rout with packaging. Simple, elegant, edgy. But is the makup any good? We will have to see…

  16. Diligent Shopper says:

Will this be found in Vancouver’s Holt Renfrew?

  17. Lilac says:

It looks sleek and is probably going to be interesting, but to say for marketing reasons that other make up is “caked on”, or would not get the colour right, with so many professional brands available, that does not sound very convincing. Of course they like to find a way to make their make-up unique, but to slam make-up-brands being used at shows (MAC :D ), I can’t believe that in so many years was not invented enough runway-compatible makeup ;)

  18. knownever says:

I heard about this but didn’t see any pictures. The packaging looks sleek, but the prices are out of control. something like $25 for a lip pencil. oh well

    • Christine says:

That’s about how much Chanel, Guerlain, etc. are, I believe! Not to say that that’s right/wrong, but it’s in line with what I’d expect (personally) from a designer makeup line. I think Dolce & Gabbana is like $29 or $30 for eyeliner/lip liner.

  19. Kat says:

So far I like the packaging more than the colors from what I can see. You make the packaging nice but if the product itself sucks I’m not gonna buy it

  20. CeeBee says:

Meh – looks a bit boring to me, to be brutally honest. I don’t like the imprint in lipsticks (I don’t mind it on Chanel lipsticks but those lippies just look weird – maybe it will look better in person though) and I hate the packaging. It looks hard, bulky, vaguely industrial and like it will show every little smudge and fingerprint.

Stormy weather = greys and blues, sunshine = glow.. who knew?!

    Srsly.

  21. Rawrzellers says:

I want to say this will be better but with the description from what they guy said, I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere near this collection. Seems bland and boring and we have already seen enough neutrals.

  22. Nana says:

I am wondering will they have makeup that will compliment women of color?

  23. Jennifer says:

I’m excited because it’s Burberry. But I’m already not a fan of the packaging since it looks like fingerprints and other marks will ruin the pretty design very easily. I already find that annoying with NARS packaging.

  24. lee says:

    Can’t wait!!! I love Burberry!!

  25. Elizabeth says:

    I seriously can’t waiiittttt!!!!!

  26. liz says:

i am such a burberry h00r, i am so ready for this.

  27. Emilia says:

I can’t wait to try *everything*!!!

  28. Karen says:

so glad that for once HK is getting a first dip in such an exciting make up launch!!!!

  29. Girl says:

I think this line might have the same fate as CK makeup, I am looking forward to the 50% off sale!
