YSL Nude Antonym & Reverse Red Slim Matte Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches

Nude Antonym (17)

YSL Nude Antonym (17) Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte LipstickYSL Nude Antonym (17) Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte Lipstick ($39.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a medium, rosy mauve with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a smooth, more velvety texture that felt lightweight, slightly thin but not in an uncomfortable or clingy way.

It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly across my lips with a touch of product that pulled into my deeper lip lines. It did not seem too visible in person, thankfully. This shade lasted well for five hours and felt neither drying nor hydrating.

Formula Overview

$39.00/0.08 oz. - $487.50 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be "weightless" and "non-drying" that "stays put all day" with "high-pigmented matte color." The texture has a smooth, velvety consistency--it glided on readily but didn't feel wet or traditionally creamy, more like a silicone-based primer. The majority of the shades applied evenly, didn't separate along my lip lines, and were lightweight and comfortable to wear.

The pigmentation was mostly opaque to opaque, and the shade range seemed to pull more mid-tone and deeper with a fair number of red-based shades. As a result, numerous shades lasted six hours or longer with red-based shades leaving very strong stains behind (even into the next day, my lips were often pink-to-fuchsia!). Some shades seemed to go on and on and on because of the color itself and the underlying staining power! The formula was non-drying as promised.

The diamond-shaped bullet may take a use or two to get the hang of, but I didn't find it difficult to use at all. The triangular point did work particularly well for getting a sharper cupid's bow shape, if desired. The formula had a floral scent that was barely detectable while on and no discernible taste.

Reverse Red (18)

YSL Reverse Red (18) Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte LipstickYSL Reverse Red (18) Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte Lipstick ($39.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a deep burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied somewhat evenly, but it was one of the worst-applying and least-pigmented shades in the range.

The texture still felt like I expected: smooth and velvety, more of a gliding sensation than creaminess, and a lighter-weight, thin consistency. There was product that seemed to catch around minor imperfections in lip texture during application. It wore well for seven hours and left a strong stain behind, though it seemed neither drying nor hydrating over time.

Nude Antonym is pretty, but I have YSL Arlene’s Nude.. I tend to prefer my light to mid tone shades to have a bit of sheen or they look a bit lifeless on me. Conversely, super matte finish looks better on me in deeper or brighter shades where sheen makes them too focal.

Good point. Then there’s sheer, that often makes it possible to wear shades that would be atrocious in more saturated pigment.

Once upon a time, I would have been all over that Reverse Red shade – as it was the kind of colour I wore when I was younger. It still is a beautiful shade, but this iteration is a little too matte looking for me.
