What's your favorite summer collection this year?

What’s your favorite summer collection this year? What were your favorite pieces?

I think Guerlain would be my favorite, but I wasn’t absolutely head-over-heels in love with the entire launch. I’m trying to think of a favorite, and just not much comes to mind this year.

I really love the Dior Summer Mix! Some of the lipglosses are really pretty and the blue nail polish is so pretty! I just had to buy it! I alos really like the Chanel collection, the horizontal bronzer is so pretty and I love En Vogue, the perfect summer shade for the lips! 🙂

Ex aequo : Dior Croisette and Nars summer collection. I think the Guerlain/Pucci is not classy at all and the Chanel Summertime is not so pretty, after all Peter Philips prefers fall and spring collections ( huge and amazing collections the Season collection is very nice too but summer lacks creativity ). Clarins is not so bad with a beautiful quad, YSL too, Estée Lauder is ” cheap ” as usual, I expect much more from Tom Pecheux,
so definitely DIOR and NARS ! Creativity, elegance, classy shades and colours. ( in my opinion ).

No head over heels for summer collection usually. But I do like OCC’s and Laura Mercier’s one, but only cuz of the mint and lilac eye color cream thingy.

I would have to go with NARS’ Thakoon collection, which is really odd, because I don’t ever get excited over nail polish, but everything about the collection just screams “summer”. When I think of summer, I think of beaches & sandals, which mean mandatory pedicures, and these shades are perfect for that. Having said that, I haven’t picked any of these up (and I most likely won’t), but it’s only because they don’t suit my personal style/aesthetic. I also really liked the L’Oreal Infallible collection, and did actually pick up two eyeshadows.

Summer collections haven’t come out in Ireland yet (well they are out this week maybe!) – I like guerlain but I’m not sure how much I would wear it so I’m not sure I will purchase. Dior is cute too!

Dior has some of the prettiest colors in my opinion, and I’ve been loving Armani’s Eyes to Kill shadows in Madreperla, Ecailles and Obsidian Black.  From a collectible standpoint, Shu’s Mame Chiyo collection is simply stunning.

I can’t say I loved any of the summer collections this year. For me it’s probably a tie between Guerlain and Chanel. Both had a couple of nice products, but no must-haves from either collection in my opinion.

I did however really like two of this summers nail polish collections. Zoya Beach & Surf and China Glaze Summer Neons. I know there are hundreds of neons out there, but most of those have a creme finish, and I absolutely love the shimmer finish of the new ChG polishes!

None. The NARS summer collection was too wintery (and not in a good way) and with too much orange-y or brick-undertoned shades for me. The only thing I’d originally wanted — the Marie Galante — received bad reviews from you. And the Thakoon collection was a massive disappointment when I saw it which is pretty unusual for me as I’m a NARS nail varnish junkie. (I also ended up not being so gaga over the Lal Mirchi which was the one Thakoon shade I did end up getting.)  I’m so, SO much more interested in all of NARS old, permanent stuff anyway, though some vet stuff today put a decided crimp in my shopping plans.  🙁

@Kafka How funny, I’m not at all into nail color (especially brights), but I actually liked the NARS Thakoon collection. Everything about it said “summer”, and it actually seemed like a very cohesive collection of colors. As for the regular summer collection, it just seemed a bit random. I liked alot of the poducts, but nothing seemed to work together. I only bought Marie-Galante, although it is a PITA to use, it’s still so pretty… A bit OT, I hope your baby’s okay!

Kafka Avatar

@xamyx  @Kafka  Yeah, the summer collection definitely seemed random. (Christine or someone’s description of it as bi-polar made me laugh my head off.) Plus, I generally shy away from anything that has brown-brick-orange in its undertones. (It’s one reason why I’m wary of a lot of peach-y colours too.)  As for the Thakoon collection, did you swatch it or just see the bottles in Sephora? I ask because to me, it was a disappointment either way. It lacked the POP! that the colours appeared to have in the PR photos. In fact, I found the Anardana and purple-ish shades to look actually dull and flat. No glow, so to speak.  (In contrast, I got Illamasqua’s Stance and holy mother of GOD! WOW, wow, WOW! It has the POP! I’d hoped for in Anadarna (which, granted is a bit more pink and not as magenta as Stance). Also, what an unbelievable texture, smoothness & shine.)

Thanks for your kind words on my baby boy. He’s got bilateral HD (diagnosed at 5 months) and I’d hoped to put off the hip operation as long as possible but today, was told I need to do it…. NOW. “It’s begun to finally impact his quality of life.” I spent over $400 in less than 2 hours today, and that’s just the beginning. Luckily, I have pet insurance which will cover a big portion of the $5000 operation but it’s the 3-6 month confinement & rehab period I dread. Plus, I have to buy slings, muzzle, a giant crate, and am considering a pet stretcher with wheels. The goofy boy is lucky he’s so adorable because he’s seriously crimping my NARS obsession. 😉

xamyx Avatar

@Kafka I never actually saw any of the polishes in person, so I guess the PR photos fooled me, LOL. Yet another reason I hate online shopping… Well, I guess I liked the *idea* of the collection, it at least is cohesive. I did swatch the eyeshadow trio, but I found the apricot shade a bit too much, but the other colors were subtle, but too dupable. M-G was the only real stand-out (I’m a complete sucker fo purples), therefore worth the extra effort for me. I’m eagerly awaiting the NARS Andy Warhol collection in October, so I’ve put myself on a “no buy”. There will probably be some repromotes, but I want it *all*.

How old is your baby, now? A friend of mine had a German Shepherd with HD, as well, but fortunately he never needed surgery. I hear it’s actually quite common for the breed.

Kafka Avatar

@xamyx  @Kafka  Andy Warhol?!!! From NARS?! <faints>  Do you have any details? Any general colour trend? Oh My God, I have lust already, sight unseen! And hurrah that it’s coming out in Oct.; that’s my bday month so I will ask for pieces as presents. As for the Marie-Galante, you know I share your purple passion but, to me, looked too blue-purple, so given the PITA quality, I reluctantly passed.  The Hairy German (aka Émile Zola or Zola) is 3 and 1/2.  🙂 He’s currently pushing me off the bed while he hogs all the pillows. He’s a bit possessive and I don’t think he appreciates the time I spend reading Temptalia. lol.

xamyx Avatar

@Kafka I have no details, but from what I’ve read, it’s supposed to be a huge collaboration/collection, and Warhol’s art is supposed to be incorporated in the packaging. I don’t normally care about special packaging, but when it’s actual art, I find myself intrigued.

@Kafka Awww..  sorry to hear that!  I have 4 dogs and my partner’s brother’s dog is also with us for the next week and a half.. 5 dogs!!.  Not to mention the  4 Horses and about 50 sheep which will soon be 100 or so in about 1 to 2 months.  Vet bills are a necessary nemesis around here too..  Hope everything works out well for you and your beloved animal(s)!   Oh, and no, I don’t live in the city.. LoL

Kafka Avatar

@wwendalynne  5 dogs?!! And horses too??!  <perk>  Pretty please, can I come and live with you??! 😉 I promise you, The Hairy German would love to herd those sheep! (Lord knows, he herds me and everyone he meets daily anyway. LOL.)  What kind of dogs, if I may ask?  I shudder to think of your pet bills, esp. when it comes to the horses. Petplan Insurance is the best thing I have ever done in the last decade but even with that, the bills….. <sigh>   Bringing this back to makeup, is it totally sad that I sat in the vet office calculating just how many NARS blushes one of his medications was going to set me back? LOL.

wwendalynne Avatar

@Kafka 1. border collie, 2. springer spaniel/border collie mix, 3. long-haired mini dachshund,4.  jack russel terrorist, 5. bernese mountain dog/G-Shepherd mix (she’s our three month old puppy, Bernice!).  The mini dachshund had emergency neck surgery in December…6K for the surgery.. that’s a lot of Guerlain G lipsticks or Nars blushes too!  Ack!!!  I’m a former corporate science/high-tech weenie turned farmer and can drive a big tractor in heels.. I’m a make-up and fashion junkie too!  LoL

Kafka Avatar

@wwendalynne I would give a lot — a LOT — to see you drive a tractor in heels, with or without the Guerlain G and Nars!! 😀  Oh man, could we pay you to post a photo??!   And that’s quite a time-intensive lot you have there, breed-wise. (The JRT alone probably counts as an additional 3 dogs. Maybe 5… 😉 lol. )  Teasing aside, I hope your mini-doxie is all right now. Neck surgery sounds terrifyingly serious. 🙁  Do you have photos of any of your lot on the Temptalia Flickr dog page? I want to see Bernice; I love Bernies but a Bernie/GSD mix should be absolute perfection. Even more so as a *puppy*!  (Does she have the wonky GSD puppy ears? That kills me as much as puppy breath does.) You lucky woman, you!

So, about that photo of you in full chic make-up driving a tractor in high heels….. what’s your price? ;P

wwendalynne Avatar

@Kafka LoL!!!  I will have to work on that one.  In the interim, I have posted a few pics to the Temptalia Flickr dog page.. a couple of pics of Bernice from 2 weeks ago and she is definitely bigger already.  If I could keep up to her..  I would have more.  Digger, the dachshund loves to pose for my camera.  He’s okay by the way.. an unfortunate and very common, 1 in 4, spinal problem with dachshunds.  We caught it early enough that it didn’t kill him..  Most have the problem occur in their lower backs and they become paralyzed.  More photos of the farm, etc on my stream in a set called “Farm Life”.  Don’t be frightened by the ball-jointed dolls and Blythe dolls.  I am a collector as well and love to photograph same.  I also make handmade footwear and leather accessories for dolls as a hobby as well.  I need to have a lot of things to do to keep my overactive brain occupied !!!

I found a lot of the summer collections rather lackluster.  A lot of it seemed to lean warm toned to fit in with the neon color trends this summer, which unfortunately means most of it just wouldn’t wear well on me.  I really wanted to like the NARS collection in particular, but most of what they released just wouldn’t fit my style or work on my skin tone.  The one collection I did think was very beautifully put together was Aramni’s (especially the eyeshadows!), but it didn’t inspire me to justify the prices.

wwendalynne Avatar

Lackluster across the board really.  I will just reiterate what everyone else seems to be saying..  a few really great products and yup, Guerlain .. maybe Illamasqua..we’ll see with next week’s release (I’m excited)  The rest of the items I am purchasing seem to be part of my slow wean away from MAC and Nars and moving more towards products which are more expensive, but worthy of the expenditure:  Guerlain, Tom Ford, Armani, Illamasqua.  I used to LOVE Nars, but I’m finding exactly the same problem as Mac.  Great colours, but total hit and miss on the quality.  That does not mean I will no longer purchase these brands, but rather that I am in the process of making my core products reflect better buying decisions and better quality items for better performance.  Certainly this is the place where I glean a lot of valuable information!  That was far more long-winded than I intended..

I never get into whole collections.  Sometimes I adore a product line, so if it premieres as a collection, I suppose that would be an exception.

I take things piece by piece.

Bobbi Brown Miami collection.  I’m in love with it…never thought I’d go with Bobbi Brown, but I did.  Loving the lip treatments and the cream shadows a lot.  So sandy, shimmery and beachy <3
