What's your current evening skincare routine?
Farmacy Green Clean (to remove makeup), CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser (double cleanse), Biologique Recherge PIGM400, Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum, Differin, Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Allies of Skin Promise Keeper, Biossance Squalane + Tea Tree Oil, Mahalo Rare Indigo Beauty Balm, Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream, Dr. Jart+ Tiger Grass Cream, CeraVe Healing Ointment. I don’t use all of these every single night – I rotate through the moisturizers depending on how glistening I would like to be, LOL. I also rotate in FAB AHA Mask and CosRX BHA Power Liquid 1-2x a week.
Ponds Cleansing Balm to remove makeup with a warm, wet Makeup Eraser. Then CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. I rotate between The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner, The Ordinary Lactic Acid, and CeraVe Retinol Serum. Then, I mix Shea Moisture Glow Getter Pressed Serum and The Ordinary The Buffet together and my final step is CeraVe PM Moisturizer.
Hello Celeste! Would you mind sharing how you wash out your makeup eraser? Just throw in the washer?
I throw mine in the washer with towels (warm wash) and throw them in the dryer. They come out clean!
– Cleanse with Yes To Tomatoes wipe.
– Tone with Thayer’s Rose Petal.
– Moisten skin with water, then pat in Iunik vitamin propolis serum.
– Tap in a fairly thick layer of Epically Epic All Business moisturizer, because it’s too thick to rub on without stretching the skin.
– Drink a couple 32oz glasses of water in between steps.
Iunik Calendula Complete Cleansing Oil
Kose Sekkisei White Powder Wash
Cosrx Centella Water Alcohol-Free Toner
Ma:nyo Galactomy Niacin Essence
The Ordinary Matrixyl 10%+HA
Tretinoin 0.025% (including around eyes)
Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream
Revolution Skincare Hydration Boost
Murad Rapid Collagen Infusion for Lips
Bite Agave Lip Mask
1.) If I wore makeup or worked up a good sweat, I remove eye makeup first, then go in with FAB Pure Skin Face Cleanser. Absolutely wonderful for my sensitive skin!
2.) Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic Acid & Retinol Eye Serum to the entire eye area.
3.) The Ordinary Retinol 1% to face and neck.
4.) Mix together Ole Henrikson Truth Serum with The Ordinary “Buffet” and apply to face and neck
5.) Hada Labo Plumping Gel Cream on face and neck
6.) Esteé Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex to eye area
7.) Jack Black Lip Balm
And then hit the hay!
-If I wore makeup, Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil
-Aveeno Ultra Calm Foaming Cleanser
-Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting BHA 2% lotion with a couple of drops of The Ordinary’s lactic acid mixed in
-The Ordinary’s Buffet with a couple drops of The Ordinary’s Argireline Solution mixed in
-Paula’s Choice Ceramide Enriched Firming Eye Cream
-Paula’s Choice Intensive Wrinkle Repair Retinol Serum
-If I’m feeling extra dry, I’ll use Farmacy’s Honey Grail at this point
-Belif True Cream Moisture Bomb
-If I’m feeling extra dry, sometimes I’ll use a facial oil like The Ordinary’s Argan Oil after everything has soaked in (30 or 45 minutes later)
I know I’m mixing steps that aren’t necessarily supposed to go together (retinol and chemical exfoliator!) but this is what has been working for my skin. If I’m feeling extra sensitive, I’ll alternate between the retinol steps and chemical exfoliators, and sometimes leave out the lactic acid altogether.
Note: I don’t consider make-up removal part of my evening routine, as I workout later in the afternoon/evening, so I remove my make-up before working out, than cleanse separately before my evening skincare routine.
Cleanse (everyday): Paula’s Choice Hydralight One Step Cleanser
Scrub (Th, Su): Paula’s Choice Unscrub, just because I received it for free; I don’t like it as much, the one I keep repurchasing myself is the Kiehls microdermabrasion scrub.
Clay/Charcoal Mask (Th, Su): Paula’s Choice Clear Purifying Face Mask
Toner (everyday): Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Enriched Calming Toner
BHA (Mo, Tu, We, Fr, Sa): Paula’s Choice 9% BHA Treatment
AHA (Th, Su): Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Exfoliant Gel
Treatments (Mo, Tu, We, Fr, Sa): Paula’s Choice 10% Niacinamide booster (only because I have it, otherwise not a must in my routine) + Paula’s Choice Clinical 0.3% Retinol +2% Bakuchiol Treatment
Serum (Th, Su): Paula’s Choice Resist Antioxidant Serum (usually I would have a very high percentage Vitamin C serum at this step, but I try to use products I got for free)
Moisturizer (Mo, Tu, We, Fr, Sa): Paula’s Choice Omega+ Complex Moisturizer
Face Oil (Th, Su): Paula’s Choice Oil Booster
Treatment (only when needed and applied only of spots): Paula’s Choice Benzoyl peroxide, extra strength
Double cleanse: Tatcha Camellia Oil, Drunk Elephant Peekee Bar and finally Nue Riev de Miel Cleanser which I use more as a mask. I apply it and let it sit for about 5 minutes and then wash off.
Treatment: I have pretty much adopted the whole Good Molecules line including the Discoloration Serum, Overnight Exfoliating treatment, Super Peptide Serum, Niacinamide Serum, Daily Brightening Serum and Niacinamide Toner. I use their Priming Moisturizer in the morning but at bedtime I use Innisfree Jeju Cherry Blossom Dewy Glow Jelly and Youth To The People Super Hydrating Glow Oil.
I have 30s combination oily-dry sensitive skin. My skincare concerns are acne, acne scarring, eczema, and general anti-aging. How I use the products depends on the particular condition of my skin for that evening.
First Cleanse to Remove Sunscreen or Makeup: Cow Gyunyu Cleansing Oil (for removal of spf but no makeup), Jordana Eye Makeup Remover (DC’d but I stocked up before they sold out), Clinique Cleansing Balm (for other makeup),
Second Cleanse: Paula’s Choice Clear Pore Cleanser and/or Paula’s Choice Optimal Results Cleanser
Tone: (optional) Paula’s Choice Moisture Boost Toner
Treat (depending on needs–applied in layers at different times on different parts of face/neck and not everyday): Paula’s Choice BHA 9 and/or BHA 4, Paula’s Choice 20% Niacinamide, Alpha Renewal Body Lotion 12%, Drunk Elephant Retinol Cream, The Ordinary 30% AHA Peeling Solution, The Ordinary 1% Retinol, The Ordinary Buffet and/or The Ordinary Matrixyl,
Moisture: (not everyday and not all-over the face) Bioderma Sensibio Rich Creme, Fourth Ray Lightweight Hydrator, Cerave Healing Ointment, Aveeno Eczema Balm
If I would have a skincare twin, it would be you. ? I don’t have eczema, but the dry patches that suddenly appear when I am either sick or stressed or otherwise disturbed from my routine are quite annoying.
First Cleanse- If I’ve left the house (rare during the pandemic) then I’ve put on SPF so I start with an oil or balm cleanser. If I feel like faffing around and getting the counter all wet I’ll use the Farmacy Green Clean Cleansing Balm, if not I’ll just hop in the shower with dry hands and a dry face and use The Body Shop’s Camomile Cleansing Oil. If I’ve worn makeup then I’ll stick by the counter and the cleansing balm and dip into The Body Shop’s Camomile Waterproof Eye and Lip Makeup Remover as well.
Second Cleanse- La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Facial Cleanser
Serum- If I’m feeling drier than usual I’ll first use the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum, but lately not needed it
Retinol- NATURIUM Retinol Complex Serum 2.5%
Moisturizer- Kate Somerville, Goat Milk Moisturizing Cream
So a standard quarantine day is just a basic cleanse, retinol, and moisturizer.
Good Molecules Instant Cleansing Balm (the absolute BEST ever), followed bu either Laniege foaming cream cleanser or Revolution Skincare Blueberry Jelly cleanser.
Then some sort of Embryolisse Creme Lait or Filaderme, Revolution turmeric moisturiser mixed with a couple of drops of The Ordinary 2% granactive retinoid or Laniege Water sleeping mask with Glow Recipe avocado eye cream.
Lips is a Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask, Apple Lime is my jam.
Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover on my eyes (if I am wearing eyeliner) followed by the Clinique Cleansing Balm all over my face. I remove it with a warm-almost-hot wash clean wash cloth cloth that I hold over my face for 20 or 30 seconds. It’s relaxing! I have a drawer full of inexpensive white Target ones for this very purpose. Then Clinique Smart night cream. That’s it. It’s kind of old school. But scented products at night make me sneezy.
I’m 56 with dry/sensitive skin. Unfortunately I’ve never been able to tolerate Retinoids! I double-cleanse with Good Molecules Cleansing Balm and La Roche Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle cleanser. Good Molecules Niacinamide Serum and then their Super Peptide Serum. I rotate every other night with the GM Discoloration Serum or The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5%. Moisturizers are Sukoyaka Suhado Urea Moisturizing Eye Cream, and I apply a mixture of La Roche Posay Double Repair Face Moisturizer and The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. Aquaphor ointment on my lips every night and Maelove Marula Oil on my lashes most nights. Yes, I might make it to bed by 1AM!
Again, I keep it fairly simple.
1. Cleanse – using whatever cleanser I have with a clean facewasher every day.
2. Oil – I apply an oil – at the moment it is Skin Physics Age Defying Power Oil – a mixture of different oils including argon. At other times I use The Ordinary Moroccan Argon oil.
As with my cleansers, I like to switch things around.
3. When the oil has soaked in I am currently using Beauty by Nicholas Plump it Up hydrating serum.
4. Before I go to bed, I am using the Glow Labs Night time moisturiser for mature skin.
I only use a gentle scrub once a fortnight – Aamie Brightening Scrub. No nasties in it.
I have oily, easily dehydrated skin. I care about acne, anti-aging and hyperpigmentation.
1. First Cleanse with Organic MCT Oil
2. Second Cleanse with Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser
3. Weekly Acid with The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution then mid week with COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid
4. Optional Wash Off Masks: De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment or Manuka Health Manuka Honey MGO 573+ or De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment
5. Etude House SoonJung pH 5.5 Relief Toner
6. COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
7. Missha Super Aqua Ultra Waterfull Clear Cream (Always in the winter or other seasons when I use The Ordinary Acid from step 3, or if I feel like I need it)
8. Prescription Tretinoin .05% (I skip this on nights when I do step 3)
9. Moisturizers layered or alone depending on season or how my skin is doing, sometimes I even skip and just use Occlusive in step 11: The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane or CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion
10. Optional Sheet Mask: I’m From Mugwort Sheet Mask or Isntree African Boabab Tree Sheet Mask or Pyungkang Yul Essence Toner Sheet Mask
11. CeraVe Healing Ointment (Always in the winter or other seasons when I use The Ordinary Acid from step 3, or if I feel like I need it)
Edit to Step 4:
Optional Wash Off Masks: De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment or Manuka Health Manuka Honey MGO 573+ or I’m From Mugwort Mask
I also definitely do a Sheet Mask on night that I use The Ordinary Acid from step 3
