What's your current body skincare routine?
I’ve been alternating between a long-time favorite, Kiehl’s Creme de Corps, and something new I picked up: Avene XeraCalm AD Cream, for moisturizing. For in-shower, I’ve been working my way through a Fresh body wash.
Finally a question I can answer in 2-ish lines! Eucerin shower oil gel and Neutrogena Intense Repair CICA lotion. I might add Avène Thermal Water or an Aloe Vera gel to my legs if they’re looking a bit red, for whatever reason, and skip the CICA lotion. If I have some potion or lotion for my face I’m trying to get rid of faster I’ll put it on my legs too!
I use a soap from the LOLIbyLL etsy shop and moisturize with josie maran whipped argan oil body butter. Now I just need a sugar scrub for my feet!!!
The sugar scrub made me laugh! I never remember my poor feet! I read somewhere about honey, coconut oil and sugar as a body scrub but I’m not sure about how much of each. Coconut oil is a brilliant ingredient!
My dermatologist put an end to all my nice products after a bout of follicular inflammation on my legs last summer. Now it’s unscented Dove and Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream. on my legs, which are the only part of my body that gets lotion prior to heating season. I am slowly using up some Bliss Lemon & Sage body wash on parts of my body that can handle fragrance.
SheaMoistire raw shea soap on a washcloth to clean/exfoliate.
SheaMoisture raw shea (fall/winter) or manuka honey & yogurt (spring/summer) lotion.
When I’m going to be outside for more than 15 minutes I wear a mineral SPF30-50, just opened a tube of Mad Hippie ultra sheer body spf40+ because Pacifica DC’d my beloved HG pineapple flower spf50 body butter :'(
Ever since hot yoga closed because of the Pandemic, I’ve been really plagued with dry skin that sloughs off disgustingly when I dry off after my shower (gross, I know and I apologize). Lately I’ve been using Clarins’s body scrub – the one with bamboo powder-applied on DRY skin and then worked in with a damp exfoliating mitt and showered off. Great results. I follow with a rich body butter either from Cake Beauty, The Body Shop or Soap & Glory. Shower oils (L’Occitane, Bioderma, Cake) also really help, as do body oils.
Most days, especially if I know that I’m not going to be outside in the scorching sunlight of the desert, I use my FAVORITE smelling skin cream of all time: Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream directly after my shower. However, if I know that I’ll be out walking around, waiting for buses, that whole rigamarole, then I use Lubriderm Daily Moisture SPF 15 Skin Lotion.
I love the scent of that cream! I find it a bit expensive, and haven’t used it in a while, now I long for it, it’s a warming scent, perfect for the cold slowly creeping down on us here.
My body care regimen is quite simple. I use Dove sensitive skin soap in the shower. Sometimes I use a Bioderma. body wash with a puff to exfoliate. I use Bioderma face wash too. After I use Biotherm Lait Corporel. It’s expensive but it’s the only body lotion I’ve tried that doesn’t feel like I’ve coated my skin in something.
For cleansing, I use the Aquaphor Baby Wash and Shampoo at the moment, but only because the Paula’s Choice body wash was out of stock for months (finally managed to order some).
After shower I apply Paula’s Choice Body Butter most times, except two nights a week when I use the BHA Body Exfoliant to manage my keratosis pilaris (although in the years I have been using the body exfoliants for Paula’s Choice, I never had big issues anymore).
Before going outside I use Paula’s Choice Body SPF on all exposed body parts… which during this time of year is mostly hands. I do want at some point to start using UPF protective gloves, but I’m still researching brands.
I have found some amazing salt body scrubs at the marshalls & tjmaxx – much better than sugar scrubs. I exfoliate every other day in the shower – a major game changer for me. I try a lot of different shower gels , salt scrubs and then a lite oil after I shower – an easy routine that has produced good results for me – in addition to my weekly mani pedi
I think it is important to have a body skincare routine because as you age your skin becomes drier. One of my best friends was told by a dermatologist to start having a skin care routine for herself as her dry skin could easily become irritated, itchy and cause an infection.
First of all, in my routine, I use a soap free body wash from a variety of brands (QV, Cetaphil, Dermeze, Dermaveen), Dermal that have oatmeal in it.
Secondly, I use a variety of body creams – CeraVe’s Moisturising cream, Cetaphil’s, Dermal’s and now I am about to try Weeleda’s body butter, after my evening shower. I use these creams either every night or second night on my arms, legs, chest to prevent any dryness or itchiness on my porcelain skin that can easily be dried out by the Australian sun.
I pay particular attention to my feet, using a scrub to get rid of any thick heels and apply Eucerin’s heel cream or Dermal’s Foot cream, to moisturise them.
For my face, I use Fresh Soy face wash followed by CE Ferulic serum and LaRoche Posay Toleraine moisturizer. I use Fresh sugar lip balm.
For body in the shower I use a body wash called Seba Med which is moisturizing and I use CeraVe cream for moisture or Aveeno cream , a gift from my DIL which really helps with itching.
