What's the most adventurous beauty product you own?
What’s the most adventurous beauty product you own? What made you buy it? How often do you use it?
Definitely has to be some of the “crazy” lip colors I have – like blue, green, teal, etc. I LOVE them, and they’re just fun – I think they inspire and bring out your creativity. I don’t have much opportunity to use most things more than a handful of times, so I can’t say that I use them very often!

Nail polish–specifically, black, blue, green and glitter polishes. Adventurous for me because I’ve classic pinks and reds until my mid-life crisis started last year (age 46). I don’t care if it’s appropriate. It makes me happy. So there. : )
Carolyn – the idea that you are ever “too old” for fun, creative colors is pure hogwash! As a young lady who fully plans to never abandon my blue, green, and glittery cosmetics, I salute you. 🙂
For me it’d be my really bright red lipsticks; I have fears of BRIGHT lips even though I love the colors! Guerlain Garconne is this gorgeous red, but I’m always afraid to wear it because I might smear it, smudge it, get ring o’ lipstick, get it on my teeth, just look weird, etc.
And that having been said, I picked up one of the new Maybelline Vivids, Pop of Cherry, which is an almost neon pink based red. I still don’t know where or if I’ll ever wear it, but it’s *so* pretty.
Probably OCC Lip Tar in triptych. I’ve also just orders Sleek makeup Pout Paint in Peek-A-Bloo (blue) and I also have the Sleek MU Acid palette which is pretty bright lol
I own *alot* of red eyeshdows & liners. While I consider them “normal” & “everyday” products, I realize there are many who don’t. I also own several black lipsticks & glosses. I actually feel more comfortable wearing these than a coral or bright pink lip product, which I do actually own, but never wear…
Benetint- I bought it during my teenage years when it was sold at the Face Place (predecessors of Benefit). I used it on my cheeks but I heard that its original purpose was for somewhere else which I should not say on this forum….so it was a risque product…..
Now you can’t say that and not give us more of a hint!!!
It was used on a lady who wanted her nipples to look more pink. That’s the origins of benetint.
Scandalous!
Haha same here, I have a blue lip gloss from Lime Crime, it’s sooo pretty but I never really know when to wear it.
I recently experimented with a matt red eyeshadow. Gorgeous color but tricky!
For myself it would have to be after shelling out over $350 for a hair removal kit.
I bought the “SILK’N Flash&Go Permanent Hair Removal Device” from Sephora a while back when it was more expensive and now it’s $299. I love it, you just apply it to the area’s of your choice once or twice a week for a month or two and the hair is virtually gone, although it’s costly, it’s really made my life a whole lot easier. I just got a $40 replacement cartridge for free because of a promo cod.
I’m so happy to hear of your success with this product. I have just started using mine and am crossing my fingers that I get the same result as you. Thanks for sharing!
Adventurous? That’s a strange one… Probably MAC’s She Who Dares MES duo…blackened green and blackened blue and both with lots of glitter.
UD Perversion lipgloss-luckily its fairly sheer
Illamasqua lipgloss -Galactic
My Morgana Cryptoria lipsticks! I love Absinthe, a bright green, layered with black gloss.
Mine would have to be my Illasmasqua Trash lipstick and my Lime Crime lipstick in No She Didn’t.
Body paint in Neons, glitter, and Lip Tars to mix to crazy shade.
I have a few black lip glosses. Nothing opaque, but they’re good for layering over other colors for a vampy look. I try not to buy things I don’t intend to wear much.
I consider myself conservative when it comes to wearing make-up, as I work on the Hill. I would say wearing a pop of color on the lower lash line – like teal, ocean blue or purple depending upon my clothing. I would also say, wearing a neon color on my toes during the summer. I also have been drawn to black, ink blue and teal on the nails this winter.
Green eyeshadow (MAC Jealousy Wakes) is quite adventurous for me as well as a fushia lipstick (NYX Chloe)
I’m going to say laser hair removal too – the Remington IPL6000. Got it for around $250 at Christmas. (:
Now I have NEVER been so apprehensive about using a product, but once I did, I was totally won over.
Apart from that it’s been quite tame! Nails inc magnetic nail polish is probably next in line.
Probably my teal, emerald and black lipsticks/glosses – as well as some bright red cream liner! I don’t wear them every day but I do wear them fairly often.
I just picked up a super bright neon orange blush from Maybelline (Coral Crush I think?). It’s just so pretty! I haven’t worn it yet, other than a quick swatch but it sheers out really well. I also have Nars Persia eyeshadow, bright burnt orange. I didn’t like it at all in pictures, but once I swatched it at Sephora, I fell in love and have worn it with warm golden browns. I also love bright & glittery nail polishes!
For me it would have to be Chanel Taffetas Rose, a bold dark pink, Guerlain Champs Elysee automatique and Chanel Exaltee which are basically the same bold pink with a slight red hint on me lol and Mac New York Apple a red berry…I actually do use this colors but not as much as my more tame pinks, most of my lipsticks are pink and these are the boldest I have…yes I´m not very adventurous 😛 .
Femme by Rochas. it’s a perfume that has cumin, peaches, and plums and opens up with a strong old lady vibe. I really love it, but fear that it’s too intense for everyday so I only spritz lightly on cold days.
I, too, have a few craaaazy lip colors — Illamasqua intense gloss (really more like “gloop”) in black and turquoise. But I do actually use them pretty often – just a tiny dot patted/rubbed into your lips and then topped and blended with a regular shimmery gloss makes a pretty fun tint without being too weird looking.
I have a few bright eyeshadows from MAC that are a bit out there… The older I get (I’m 27), the more inapproriate I feel those colors look on me. I think it’s time I swap them away haha… I’m not so adventurous anymore in my old age.
As someone nearing 40, I feel you don’t have to completely abandon those colors; yes, the older we get, and the more advanced we become in our careers, there are things that may not be appropriate given ones particular lifestyle. However, instead of wearing 3 bright shadows all at once, to the office, we can do a more neutral look, with just an accent of color as a liner, in the crease/corner/outer-V, etc. Besides, there’s always the weekend…
I have a couple of blue lip colors (OCC Butch and Portland Black Lipstick Co. Difficult Island and Indigo Bridge). They’re definitely not colors that work with every look and I have to be careful because blue doesn’t exactly fade gracefully, but I do wear them in public as part of “normal” makeup on occasion. And I always get multiple complements — seriously!
I’d say the most adventurous products I wear would have to be bold and bright nail polishes. I love a nice pop of color on my nails and there isn’t too much I won’t try. I live for spring and summer when I can break out my bright polishes and get regular mani/pedis! As far as facial makeup, I don’t really own anything I would consider outrageous. I like the “no make up” make up look, so my facial make up is usually subtle with the occasional bold lip or cheek (which is usually red, pink, purple, or coral).
Lips -wise: Definitely my lip tars in Rx, Chlorophyll, Dangerous, Vapid, and Lo-Fi. Adventurous because they really stand in stark contrast to the rest I have. Also Inglot lipsticks from their Pacific Collection. And my Illamasqua in Pristine.
Blushes: Some of my Inglot blushes. Especially the ones they released last summer. Super duper bright! lol
Oh, and glitters. They’re always adventurous and way far from my comfort zone, but I try to use them on occasion (albeit a rare occasion).
I dye my hair adventurous colors and take risks with different hairstyles. I do have lots of crystal stones, temporary tattoos from beauty brands, but I rarely use them. I have a rainbow variety of nail polishes and a black lipstick.
My Black Lipstick
OCC lip tar in NSFW and UD Black Pallet
L’Or de Vie, La Creme by Dior my most extravagant adventurous beauty product at 375.00 a jar it was a delight to know it does exactly what it says. The best moisturizer I’ve owned. 🙂
My one crazy indulgence goes into toenail polish because I have to stay professional at work. Revlon Nail Art Moon Candy in Galactic is like having a pretty oil slick on your toes. Love it
I have a neon lipgloss…and I dont mean candy yum yum, nylon neon (although I do on those and many many more like them, and usually wear one under the gloss) but NEON NEON! I found it at Big Lots and I its this bright think (impassion to the times 20!) and considering that I was all about eyes and some mlbb gloss until 2 yrs ago, and I mean NEVER WORE ANTHING BRIGHT…like when I 1st got dolly girl nyx gloss in the mail I was YEAH RIGHT, IT IS THE MOST EXCITING MAKEUP I own…love bright lips
I have a black lipstick, from Wet N Wild’s Fergie collection. I’ve worn it a few times, underneath a red Bobbi Brown gloss I have, but I’d never wear it alone. my style doesn’t lend itself to black lipstick much.
OCC lip tar in anime. Its a super bright neon fuschia pink.
My shimmery grey liplustre from Fyrinnae. Whenever I wear it (which isn’t often) I feel like a cyborg 😀
Chanel Notorious! It looks adventurous in the pan, but imparts an oh-so-gorgeous and natural effect!
NARS “Exhibit A” blush. And I adore it!
Probably my matte yellow eyeshadows. I also really love Viva Glam Gaga 2, even though it’s very close to my skin tone. I have a blue frosty lipstick somewhere but I haven’t worn it since goth night in college.
I’m NW15, 48, brunette(only about three strands of gray so far),and generally fairly conservative when it comes to makeup, but I’m not afraid of bright colors on my lip and cheeks.
have some pretty “adventurous” lipsticks – MAC Candy Yum-Yum, Show Orchid, Violetta, Night Violet, Media, Lady Danger. I also own and LOVE Ellis Faas “Ellis Red.”
As for blushes, my most daring are MAC Deep Pink, MAC Frankly Scarlet, MAC Magenta, Apple Red, and Fame Red; Ben Nye Purple Passion and Bick Red.
Believe me, all of the above blushes are applied very lightly and carefully, with a good fan brush.
I stick to neutrals on the eyes.
