What's one product that you love but doesn't love you back?
What’s one product that you love but doesn’t love you back? It’s so amazing and yet it doesn’t quite work for you or makes you work *extra* hard to make it work?
.
The first product that comes to mind is NARS’ Eye Pencils. I love, but they certainly don’t love me back!
Nars Orgasm Blush, it looks SOOOOOO gorgeous in the compact but when I put it on there is like zero colour and a glittery mess 🙁
I agree! This is the blush every one raves about yet I’ve owned it in 3 NARS palettes and 1 single blush and I STILL don’t like it on me. It looks amazing swatched on my hand or arm but on my face, it looks so pink.
Man! Right there with you. I can’t understand why everyone else loves it – it looks like Tinkerbell threw up on my cheeks.
Benefit Georgia Peach Powder. I love it SOOO much, esp its yummy smell – but it doesn’t want to show up on my NC 40 skin.
MAC studio finish concealer.
Works pretty well for my under eye area, but as with the rest of MAC’s foundations…it only breaks me out even more when I try to conceal blemishes with it. I’ve tried and tried again, but it just doesn’t love me back :/
studio fix. its so gorgeous but it doesnt like taking to certain spots on my skin!
Mac Studio Fix Fluid! Great product, excellent coverage BUT causes breakouts 🙁 so sad until I discovered Revlon Colorstay 🙂 just as gooood
I agree. I loved this until I realized it was causing me to break out more. But I loved it up until that point…
The first product that comes to mind for me is… something I just finished using! It’s Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. I love this stuff for my forehead, nose, and chin… but for the rest of my face, like my cheeks, not so much! So basically, when I use this I either have to concentrate it more on my cheeks or go upstairs to use my mom’s lotion version. But I love Clinique’s skincare so much, I’m not ready to jump off the bandwagon yet… so I’ll probably keep buying this… so sad.
Pink eyeshadow. Somehow I always look infectious, and not in a good way.
Blushes are my latest love, but they don’t seem to love my cheeks. No matter what I do, it looks patchy.
hey, i have the same problem too. A MUA suggested that I use the mineralize skinfinish in By Comfort underneath the blush to help it all stay on my cheeks and it’s been working for me. you should def. try this. The only thing is that you can’t try this with a matte blush..unless you don’t mind the sparkles that will show up from the mineralize skinfinish. I hope this helps.
I love bronzers and recently purchased actually hubby bought them i.e mac bronze and refined golden boy oh boy i look unhealthy wearing each of them considering that bronzers suppossed to give you a glow plus am mad i cant return them
Benefit’s Benetint. I love love love the fresh rosiness, but in the end it always makes me break out.
Nude lipstick! It looks so pretty on others but does NOTHING for my skin tone 🙂
my chanel duo eyeshadow in desert rose!
when i swatch it is so gorgeous and pigmented but when it’s on my eyes, you can barely tell one color is supposed to be darker than the other
NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils. I’ve seen so many people using it with success and it’s such a cheap cream eyeshadow with a great color selection. Unfortunately, it creases very badly on me and my lids aren’t even that oily! with UDPP underneath, applied lightly, it’ll still crease *sighs*
red lipstick…maybe because i haven’t found the right one yet…or the right look appropriate for it 🙁
I love MAC Feline because it’s an intense black but when I try to use it on my (upper &/or lower) water line it smears! The color won’t stay… It will run after a few hours! Help any tricks? Suggestions?? I so want to cont loving it!
I have the same problems with Mac Feline. On the lower waterline especially. Looks amazing at first, then not even an hour later, the outer corners are worn off!
I have that issue, too! I usually apply it once, let it set for a minute, and then reapply. I still get it smearing all over the place, but at least the colour stays on better.
I read a suggestion to try putting eye primer on the waterline first.
SAME!! I tried setting with Carbon e/s. It helped a bit more.
MAC Mutiny pigment…
The color is so pretty in the jar but it takes a lot of work to look as gorgeous on the lid!
Tinted moisturizer. I love it so much and I know it should be something that should be easy to work with, but it is so hard to find a colour that matches my very fair skin. I found one from Stila that matches nicely, but it is so sheer that I still need concealer and even though it says oil-free, I still have to wear a primer because it actually makes my face more oily than my normal foundation.
Try mixing a few drops of your foundation with a good oil control moisturizer. You’ll have to experiment with the amount of foundation until you get the coverage you like, but once you do I think you’ll be happy with the results.
GOSH’s Precious Powder Pearls in Glow and Magic. They’re powders in pearl form with Glow being the bronzer and Magic being the highlighter.
The colours both come out amazing and they look amazing on the skin, but they have so much glitter you need to REALLY buff them in with a good, dense kabuki otherwise they just sparkle far too much.
nyx jumbo eye pencils and anything a little too creamy – will crease on me really fast (and yes, worn under eyeshadows) :\
even Mac paints can’t hold my shadows for too long 🙁
My Mac Feline Khol pencil! Why doesn’t it stay put? 🙁
Have you tried setting it with a powder? I use Carbon E/S. That seems to do the trick for me!
MAC khol power pencils, i love the intense colour they give but they just end up running down my face and smudging everywhere on my lid in seconds, i’ve tried using them with sealer but thats a bit of a pain and you have to be careful to cover it completely.
Liquid liner, any of them. I so want to rock the 60’s look but I can’t seem to make that happen.
Mac’s studio fix fluid 🙁
The one I was dying to love but failed me seems to be my Illamasqua Sophie liner 🙁 I had the Nars effect you had Christine. Bummer.
Lustre eyeshaddows!
Translucent Powder! I love how healthy and good it is for your skin. I also love the fact that it sets makekup but I have dry skin so thats a no no. Just creates dry patches and magnifies them
Try using a facial mist over the powder then stipple over that with a Beauty Blender sponge…chalkiness/dry spots gone!!
any light pink lipstick (think mac lady gaga, revlon matte pink pout, etc.) =[ such pretty colors, but not so much on me…
Yes, Gaga isn’t too hot on me either b/c I’m so fair. Looks a bit better if I wear a gloss over it.
just bronzer, all kinds of bronzer, it fades and goes splotchy and hates my face. ugh 🙁
Philosophy Puity Made Simple cleanser & Microdeivery Wash. The Purity Made Simple takes off my makeup amazingly and the Microdelivery Wash leaves my skin feeling soft but it makes me break out : (
Pink lipstick. It’s not the best color for me, but I love the 80s-ish effect. Still on the lookout for that perfect shade that isn’t too blue for me
Diorshow mascara. I loved how it looked, but I had a horrible reaction to it (and I have never had a reaction to anything before or since). Also most nude lipsticks and glosses (Myth, Blankety, etc) look terrible on me, I look dead.
MAC Lustre and Cremesheen lipsticks. I love the formulas but I must be allergic to an ingredient since my lips break out when I use them, even if I use primer first 🙁
Chanel Aqualumiere lipstick, Formentera especially. It’s sheer so you’d think it’d be easy to wear but it’s so frosty and looks TERRIBLE on me. This is one of those “I’ve worn it twice in 3 years but I can’t bring myself to throw it away” purchases.
Nars Orgasm gloss & nail polish – they look so odd on me yet the blush looks fine. go figure! all the ones I’ve tried make me break out.
i love love love the color fig 1 from mac but everytime i wear it i have an allergic reaction from the redness that is in it! its really pretty sad i had to give it away
my Chanel’s sun block
UV Essentiel? I have to agree. I got a sample of it last week. I love how light the formula is. I doesn’t feel like sunscreen at all! And the scent is divine. But I don’t know if my skin likes it…I’ve been breaking out since I tried it a few times. 🙁
All the Chanel skin products break out your skin badly! I think that only some perfumes are ok…
I might be in the minority, but some Chanel skin care products have worked wonders for my skin. I had my breakouts completely under control after I had been using Chanel for over a month. I understand it’s a pretty expensive risk to take though! I didn’t purchase anything until using (generous) samples.
NARS Multiples. I have tried 2 different shades and I’m trying hopelessly to make it love me back!!
Sadly, it’s the UDPP. It makes my eyeshadow crease especially during summer. For the winter time its not that bad but I’ve been using two faced shadow insurance and it works fine with me..also the painterly paint pot.
Nars Orgasm blush. I have the Orgasm and Laguna duo, and I love it. But everytime I apply it, it doesn’t make me glow like other girls. I’m still working on it, I want it to work!
Lately my UDPP has been failing me. I seriously think UD changed the formula recently. It keeps creasing on me, and I have to add just a touch of TFSI on top of my crease after my UDPP. Now it works great.
LIQUID EYELINER.
I love the idea of coral lipsticks but they just look orange on me, no matter what I do. I seem to look best with a little blue in my lip color.
Benefit Posie Tint. Looks so pretty in the bottle, really wanted to love it, but it doesn’t work for me.
Smashbox halo powder. I love how good it is for the skin but whenever I put it on, it tends to look cakey even when I use very small amounts. Also, about 30 minutes later, my face becomes incredibly oily. I want to love it since it cost so much but doesn’t seem to work for me. Any suggestions?
I thought of another one, but this one is actually very hard for me to admit, lol. I love the LE Chantecaille palettes because they are so gorgeous, but in all fairness, some of the colours I find very hard to work with. Especially the Protected Paradise eyeshadow palette, it looks beautiful, but the grey colour is dull when applied, the green one is too dark and not as vibrant as it initially looked (damned overspray) and the peachy one is too dark to be a highlighter. I actually got a back up of this because I thought I’d be too sad to use it and for the pretty pattern to get messed up, but I’ve only used it twice, so it’s pretty much still all there, and I know I will never use it up as it’s huge! So I have a $90 palette sitting there unused, and another one used twice that doesn’t love me. 🙁
nars sheer glow… thought i had found my hg foundation, but it breaks me out like CRAZY and NOTHING breaks me out, I can even sleep in MAC foundation. sad huh.
Painterley paintpot detests me (NC40). Also, peachstock from the Liberty Of London collecion. It looks white in my lips, I use it as a base for my lipstick and it helps.
Illamasqua’s cream eyeshadows. The colors are gorgeous, but they crease in my lids after 3 minutes!!! Awfull payoff too.
Mac eyeshadow in paradisco, its such a beautiful color but it comes off as a gold/orange pearl but it does look preety like that also
mac studio fix powder.
UD 24/7 pencils….they don’t like to go on my waterline and they’re *so* soft. But such pretty colors!
Nude lipstick. I have a weird skin-tone I guess because I can never find one that doesn’t make me look dead.
I would say MAC Cremesheen lipsticks.
The coverage isn’t opaque enough (naturally red lips so don’t like sheer) and when applied it’s uneven (like you see swipe marks) – you can see the red in my lips underneath so it’s not even good as a sheer lipstick too splotchy!
I wouldn’t say it’s a huge loss because they are so many lipsticks out there, though.
Another thing along with along with Orgasm blushes is MAC lipsticks in general. They come in so many finishes yet all of them dry out my lips like crazy and feel dry on my lips. Glazes are the least drying but I don’t like them. I love that MAC offers such a large veriety of colors and finishes but none “really” work for me. I still buy them anyways and have to moisturize and exfoliate befor using but they still look slightly flaky and feel dry. I’ve recently been telling myself to stay away from them for good and stick to other brands that are personally better for my lips (Givenchy, Shiseido, etc.) but it’s so HARD!
I love, love, love the colors of Nars blushers but it doesnt suit me well… 🙁
lipstick! i’m allergic to an ingredient that’s in most higher-end ones. 🙁
MAC Studio Fix Fluid & Select SPF15 Foundations, I love the way they look on me and last….but the breakouts just aren’t worth it!
Eyeliner! I seriously wear it everyday, but if I use too much eyeliner sealer my eyeshadow sticks to it and if I use too little my eyeliner on my dang hooded AND oily lids will smudge.
I have two, MAC Plushglass and Tarte Cheek Stain. My lips have an allergic reaction to the plushglass! I get bumps followed by peeling skin….NOT ATTRACTIVE! Tarte Cheek Stain because I turn into a grease monkey and break out 🙁
I had the same reaction to the Mac Plushglass in Wet, Wild, Wonderful. It took a week for my lips to clear up.
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Crash. That’s the products that showed me why you need to swatch a product on your hand every time you are given a chance! The color is so interesting in the pan but it is hell to work with.
I also bought Urban Decay’s 24/7 liner in Zero and I’n not too happy with it, though I’d really LIKE to be…
I’d have to say NARS’ eyeshadow duo in Brazil :(. The colors are so beautiful in the palette, but I just can’t see any pigmentation on my eyes. I’ve tried everything, but these colors just refuse to show on my NC45 skin.
MAC cremesheen lipsticks (especially shy girl).. they just feel/look so weird on my lips..
I have to say that I l love the msf natural by MAC, but it makes me very oily after a few hours. Not a cute look. Also the Lady Gaga lipstick……………….all those cool colors.
MAC prep n prime face protect spf50!
Benfit Dandelion; i love it a lot in the pan, but it’s useless on my face… looks ahsy cold, makes me worse tarther than prettier!
Uban Decay Primer Potion-i crease with it worse than i do without a base at all. But the mac paint pots and the estee lauder double cream eyeshadow work wonders for me. Estee Lauder had alimited edition silver one that is amazing for under grey shadows which i adore!
Bronzers do nothing for my pale skin and neither do nude lips but they look beautiful on most people.
Oh! and Coral. Any products…
The product that doesn’t love me back is definitely my Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner in Chocolate Shimmer. Love the color, but for some reason it doesn’t adhere to my brush, thus making it almost impossible to transfer it from the pot to my eye.
Mascara and eyeliner! On many people it looks so gorgeous, but on me, sometimes it just makes me look uglier…
Studio Sculpt foundation.
It gives me the most FLAWLESS coverage and finish, but it breaks me out like you wouldn’t believe! It’s so upsetting. I can wear it for a few hours, but any amount of time after that, my skin is ruined lol.
Oh, and Smashbox photo finish primer. That stuff is so smooth and makes my pores disappear, but it gives me millia (little white bumps) on my cheeks. 🙁
Any sort of bright or bold lipstick tends to look clownish on me!! I haven’t seemed to learn yet though, I keep buying them and getting disappointed and I’ll have to give them away to a friend or return them. I guess it’s not the end of the world though because for the most part I like to make my eyes the focus of my looks.
MAC’s Victoria lipstick. Looks a weird pink-orange on me after applied. Also, the Gaga l/s isn’t too hot on me either. It’s ok with a gloss but just ok.
Benefit’s Some King of Gorgeous is horrid on me!! Annnd I wasn’t able to return it. Grrr
Also, no other soaps but Dove work for me. I love the smell of Irish Springs and tried the Olay body washes but itchy!!!! Good thing I love Dove!
Hmm there is a lot on my list, I would say Diorshow Blackout. This mascara was totally weird to me, one day it would look amazing on my lashes and the next I would get clumpy-spidery lashes!
Any mineral based make up. I love the idea of just fluffing mineral powder over bare skin as foundation and then head out the door, but I’m allergic to bismith oxychloride which is a main/key component in alot of mineral make up powder foundations. 🙁
mac feline kohl: it creases so much..!!
