What's in your travel makeup bag?
It really depends on how busy my testing schedule is, so I usually take a few things that I need to test and go with that, but if it’s just one or two days, then I’ll likely take products that I recently reviewed but really enjoyed (and want to use again). Mine totally changes at a whim! I take a LOT with me, though – usually two palettes, four lip products, foundation (in two shades), half a dozen eyeliners, mascara, eyeshadow primer, setting powder, two blushes, two highlighters, a bronzer, and probably a little more, LOL!
The one palette I always travel with is the hourglass surreal light palette from holiday 2016. It’s great to have blush, setting powder, highlighter, and cheek color in one place.
Otherwise I usually take a single eyeshadow palette, but switch it depending on what I’m traveling for, plus my usual foundation, eyeliner, mascara, and setting spray and primers.
I don’t travel a whole lot, lol, but when I do I usually want light coverage make up, an easy every day blush, a small palette that travels well, and a no fuss lip.
So, I’ll usually take some sort of BB or CC cream: the Juice Beauty Stem Cell CC cream is great for extremely light coverage, but it also has 50+ SPF, or my IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC cream.
I really like traveling with my Wet n Wild color icon blush in Rose Champagne. It’s a really pretty every day color with a little glow, plus it’s so inexpensive that if something happens to it, it’s no huge loss.
I like my Viseart Petit Pro palette and my Huda Beauty Smoky Obsessions palette for easy looks and because they don’t take up a ton of room in my make up bag.
Any of the L’oreal Colour Riche Shine sticks are great for me for no fuss color, or my Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb.
Add in come concealer, mascara, and a few eyeshadow brushes, and I’m good to go!
I bike to work a few times a week, so I have this down! I bring foundation in a contact case, concealer, eyeshadow primer, liquid and gel pencil eyeliner, mascara, brow mascara, spoolie, cream blush, bronzer, Viseart Neutral Mattes, four shadow brushes, a fluffy bronzer brush, and a foundation brush. It fits it a very compact makeup bag.
For very minimalist travel, I have reduced to one eyeliner, one shadow brush, an eyeshadow single in a neutral satin, blush, blush brush, a powder foundation and powder brush, and mascara.
All lipsticks go in my purse. For both situations I would have a classic MLBB in warm and cool tones (Bite Chai and Milani Rose Femme), and maybe one nice cool red.
My regualar base makeup. One cheek/highlighter palette, usually 2 shadow palettes a nuetral and a more colorful one. A nuetral and bright matte lippies one mascara
I only travel by car, so I’m not very limited. I have a giant, sectioned makeup organizer that allows me to take a ton of stuff when I go on vacation. I try not to take more than I need, but I always do! I also bring a full size, double-sided, lighted makeup mirror that I keep in its original packaging so it’s safe to travel with.
As far as everyday travel (like to go to work) is concerned, I am a minimalist. I take Clinique Superfine Eyeliner, Estรฉe Lauder Double Wear Concealer, MAC Blot Powder, and whatever lipstick I’m wearing that day. And also a travel spray version of the perfume I’m wearing.
Christine, it is embarrassing, the makeup thatโs in my travel bag! The look on securityโs face, when we go through security! Lol. One asked me if I was a showgirl going to Vegas! We are traveling quite a bit now. I need my stuff!
LOL My sister-in-law is the same. She jokes that the only reason she keeps going to the gym is so she’ll be strong enough to carry her makeup case. BTW, you’re gorgeous!
Face products: one medium and one full coverage foundation or CC cream; concealer/corrector stick; loose setting powder; pressed setting powder; and necessary brushes.
Eyes: mascara; brow pencil – that’s it! I keep it super simple when I’m traveling. I might bring a waterproof mascara if it’s a vacation to a hotter destination.
Cheeks: I try to stick to one blush and one highlighter. Faves include: Clinique Nude Pop, MAC Rosy Outlook, NARS Free Soul, BECCA Blushed Copper, BECCA Opal, and Urban Decay Indecent.
Lips: This is where I really tend to go overboard! Lately I have been challenging myself to stick to two lipstick choices (one nude, one color) and one gloss. Faves include: MAC Velvet Teddy, Bite Glace, and Maybelline Clay Crush for nudes; Fenty Stunna Lip Paint for color; and the original Fenty Gloss Bomb and NYX gloss in Praline for gloss. I will toss in one or two NARS lip pencils if I need to line my lips depending on the lipstick color.
I travel for work largely and my travel bag evolves for each trip I make. I love to use blushes the most so I try to either make a palette using my MAC travel palette, bring Nars blushes (they’re so thin and fit well) or a blush palette. With eyeshadows, I just bring one quad and three shades of lipstick (nude, pink and berry). I only bring one foundation and try to limit it to sample packets, one eyeliner in dark brown and a sample size mascara. I usually try to bring mini lipsticks too. The rest is skincare. I’ve got a hoard of sample packets or mini sizes that I save especially for travel since I only travel with a carry-on bag.
As for my purse bag — its just dior lip glow, sample mascara, glossier cream blush, and MAC powder.
I try to keep it light but it never ends up that way! I usually have two palettes (typically it’s tarte Clay Play Face palette and the first Makeup Rev x Soph palette), my mascara, primer (two products – eyeshadow base and face), highlighter, setting powder, Fix+, and my eyebrow pencil. A few eyeshadow brushes, highlight brush, and a setting powder brush make the cut as well. Sometimes I’ll bring along a blush palette (I only have one palette and one single so I have to make do) but it’s not consistent. Foundation is hit or miss; once I find one I have confidence in I’ll probably wear it more, but I’m not hating not wearing it.
It largely depends on the length and nature of the trip — I can go lighter and/or more creative for personal travel, and for work it’s much more “office-y” conservative. And the longer the trip, the smaller the makeup bag because I usually need more space for clothes and stuff.
On a recent 5 day personal trip, I brought one each of: mascara, eyebrow pencil, foundation, highlighter, primer, blush, lip balm. Plus, two eyeliners, a custom eyeshadow quad, two lip products (a gloss and a lipstick). Then — since I always add a little something special when I travel in order not to feel too deprived, since otherwise I pack super minimally — I tossed in a Viseart Theory palette.
Two lip products for a five day trip? Wow, I’m impressed! I change my lip color so often that I usually pack two shades per day. (There’s obviously something wrong with me…Lol!!!!)
Ha! No, I think there’s something wrong with me. Actually, it’s that my family is not too positive when I show up with a lot of makeup, jewelry, etc; it’s easy to cross over a “too much” line for them. So I pare it down. Two lip products is pretty few for me too.
basically donโt travel. So, this is fantasy, about vacation travel. The places I would choose are mostly fairly m/u free and outdoors. Plus, there would be vast tiny skincare bottles and scripts that are NOT optional. Probably a couple of bite multisticks, Gelato and a red brown one, a small tubing mascara. Might get a KohGenDo cushion for portability. One concealer (a far cry from the 4 layered products often used at home), likely MUR. Plus the HGs: FAB eye triple duty and Paula long name TM/sunscreen. Clearly, if the destination were urban, there would be far more color and choices. But, with the bare bones, could look acceptable, and no brushes required.
I take minis of all my stand-bys – Boscia Cleanser, Clarins or Clinique eye makeup remover, Clinique Super Defense and Lise Watier SunSmart for daytime moisturizer/sunscreens, IT CC Cream (pumped into an empty MAC sample jar), Kiehl’s Midnight Rescue Oil (got a tiny sample bottle years ago and keep it and its dropper to refill from my larger bottle), GWPs of eye and night creams. Makeup – gotta have a concealer but they don’t take up much room. A mini of UDPP that keep refilling from my large tube, UD Naked palette (might start leaving that home now as it’s no longer available; I just picked up Smashbox’s Covershot Minimalist and might start taking that instead ), Stila Eyes Are the Window Spirit palette, MAC Sweet Sentiment blush and Craving lipstick, Sephora Cappuccino and Marc Jacobs Submarine Skinny liners and, finally, a mini of Givenchy Fuchsia in the Know lipstick. I take a pressed powder and a tiny jar of loose (again, in a MAC sample jar – those things are SO excellent for travelling and they STAY SHUT), a lip balm and then all my body stuff – wash, moisturizer, hand cream, deodorant, etc. I’m sure I’ve left stuff out and it really does seem excessive, doesn’t it?
Usually nothing except skincare things. If I were going to a wedding that would be a different story, but I’d probably only pack the things I’d need for that specific event. I mostly only wear makeup to work or to special events (like parties, dinners at upscale restaurants, etc.) and my travel rarely includes either of those things. (I don’t travel for work.)
I’ve been traveling light just lately; mostly weekend getaways. I take a small container of my foundation, a luminous cream blush, Chanel’s Les Beige quad in Natural (contains a highlighter shade, two lid/contour shades, a dark liner shade, and a glitter shade for evening), a mascara, and a rosey MLBB shade of lipstick.
Always more than what I end up using… :p
Hi:
I stick to basics. I’ll have base in a sample container, BB pale pink pot rouge or maybe the Gucci Westman blush stick I splurged on, loose powder, undereyebrightner( loving the Sisley one). Mini mascara, a neutral eye palette like the Huda mauve one, KA brow pencil and I usually have a few lip choices in my handbag. Also bronzer and highlighter if I remember. Boring. I need to jazz it up a bit
I have a three week trip to Spain planned for November and I am planning to take the Emily Needs palette to cover blush, bronzer, powder and a basic eye look. Plus one each mascara, eyeliner, foundation, and brow product. And two concealers. One lip pencil and a sample pack of Bite Agave lip masks. The red and the champagne will be adequate for my needs. I may also take the Viseart Minx. I will be in Europe so if I am not happy, I will have an excuse to shop.
I don’t have any real go tos. I make sure my basics are covered (foundation, mascara etc). Then I grab a blush/highlighter that goes with multiple looks. Grab 2 to 3 lip products. And then I’ll customize a quad with my MAC singles that gives me a look I can wear day to night and goes with multiple outfits. I don’t have a premade palette for travelling
It changes somewhat due to the trip. I take less camping that I would for a city trip where I’d go out to dinner. My last trip was a week long, so I took more full-sized products. For 2-3 day trips, I usually take samples of primers, skincare, etc. and a eye/face palette instead of separate blush and eye palettes, or maybe one nude blush and an eye quad.
In my bag for the week:
*NYX Angel Veil Face Perfecting Primer
*BH Cosmetics Flawless Finish Foundation in Ivory
*NYX HD Photogenic Concealer Wand in Alabaster
*E.l.f. Perfect Finish HD Powder and Original Mist & Set
*UD Primer Potion in Enigma

*NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette in Brights

*Cotton pads and cotton swabs.
*Pond’s wipes, BH Cosmetics Studio Pro Eye & Lip Makeup Remover
*NuSkin 180ยฐ Face Wash, Paula’s Choice CALM Redness Relief Moisturizer for Normal to Oily Skin
* Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 100
Depends on the season/my skin tone but I always bring enough for a full face but try to just stick to one of each type of product. Last week’s Vegas trip included Clinique Nude Pop blush and my mini CoverFX moonlight highlighter and used ’em for eye shadow too, paired with Nudestix Belle lip crayon.
My travel makeup bag is pretty hefty and it is usually co-ordinated with what clothes I am taking and the season.
Generally it includes all my stapes plus Naked 2, bareminerals soft and smokey and Lorac Pro Metals palette.
For lipsticks I take one of red, berry and brown/copper.
I’m always on the go! When I was working before my tumor, I was traveling for work every weekend! What I usually pack is:
-drunk elephant tinted sunscreen
-milk blur stick (not a liquid and can be patted in wherever is needed)
-The Ordinary Serum Foundation (my holy grail foundation! Just enough coverage to even out my redness, and make my skin look healthy and even!)
-maybelline fit me concealer (light, non drying or cakey!)
-covergirl clean matte powder
-Milk werk lip and cheap cream blush
-Clinique black honey pop blush (my HOLY GRAIL blush!!)
-wet n wild precious petals
-becca sunset waves bronzer
-essence make me brow
-maybelline lash sensational mascara
-marc Jacobs velvet noire mascara
-fenty gloss bomb
-BITE chai amuse bouche lipstick
-giorgio Armani rouge ecstacy shine in 102
-BITE Jam for a vampy lip!
For eye shadow, I have my own 8 shadow palette that I created myself!
It has a light matte cream shade, a light matte warm brown transition shade, a medium matte warm brown crease shade, a matte deep dark brown for defining, a shimmery deep dark bronze for lower lashline defining, a shimmery peachy gold for lids, a light shimmery gold for inner corners, and a glittery bronze shadow I like to press onto mt lids!
That’s what’s currently in my travel bag, all packed and ready for tomorrow!!
If it’s a long weekend type trip I usually go with concealer, a black-brown eye pencil (that doubles as a brow pencil), mascara, a pink or pinky-brown lipstick, lip balm, and a blush (which I apply with clean fingers since I don’t feel like packing brushes on a short trip). I really try to go light on the makeup on these types of trips, partially since I probably won’t have a ton of time to get ready in the morning anyways.
If it’s a longer trip or I know I’m going to some kind of special event, I’ll add a neutral eyeshadow palette, highlighter, my hourglass dim light, and a couple of brushes.
In my bag everyday
MAC Grain eyeshadow-yes I use this as foundation because itโs the ONLY perfect match for my color and it gives slight luminous affect
MAC Naked Lunch as highlighter
NARS orgasm blush
Revlon #420 Blushed lippie or Tom Ford Graham – sadly discontinued ?
Clinique Midnight eyeliner
BadGal mascara
If we’re just talking about makeup (no skincare), then I keep it as minimal as a full-face look can be: IT CC Cream and Bye Bye Foundation (for mixing), loose powder, ABH “contour” powders in Cream Soda, Camel, and Banana, mascara (usually blue), a cream blush (lately it would be Fenty Chili Mango — before that it was Bite’s Praline), and a lip balm. Also, brushes and a beauty blender.
