I just had to clean mine out the other day, I’d managed to stash 11 (ELEVEN!) lip products in there. And wondered why it was so heavy.
I usually have: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Coral, at least one Too Faced La Creme (Juicy Melons or Naked Dolly), an old MAC concealer for emergencies that I have to replace soon, NARS Multiple (Portofino for summer, G-Spot for Winter), YSL Rouge Volupte Shine (usually 9 Pink in Confidence), NARS Matte Velvet Lip Pencil in Sex Machine, sometimes a random Chanel gloss/lacque in Ming, the tiny Sephora birthday gift Watts Up!, a Rouge D’Armani Sheer or two, and if I can cram it in whatever Tom Ford/Guerlain lipstick I’m wearing for a special occasion.
Writing this all out kind of emphasizes that I have a makeup problem.
Girl, most of us on this site have a makeup problem, hahahaha! No judgement here!

I’m probably going to be the odd one out here…
I do not carry a makeup bag. I don’t even have a spare lipstick tucked in there. Everything I wear has staying power, and I never touch up my face during the day. When I come home, I usually remove it all.
The only thing that would classify as a ‘beauty’ item in my purse would be nail clippers or a tiny file. I think I also have a tube of Blistex in there.
Depends on what makeup bag we’re talking about, but we’ll go with my purse for brevity’s sake. 😉 Maybelline FITMe concealer stick, Maybelline FITMe concealer, Dior Addict Lip Glow balm, Jack Black balm, Dior Addict lipstick in Rose Shocking, Covergirl mascara, and Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Lilac.
Chanel vitalumiere powder, Nivea balm and Carmex,Loreal lipstick (i need to finish it)
Oooh! Oud Wood I LOVE! Jay smells SO good in it! I don’t but he does (I’m a Tuscan Leather guy). If I wear Oud Wood I end up smelling like some kind of Arabian pirate after a long night in a Turkish bath house.
At all times I have with me: MAC Brow Set in Beguile, Jack Black Lip Balm, Guerlain Shine Automatique #201, Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Concealer in Light and some kind of highlighter like Touche Eclat to brighten any dark circles that are dark enough to make me look beat down but not so much that they need concealer (I’ll often mix Touche Eclat with the Double Wear Concealer too – if the concealer is too heavy or the highlighter is too light).
Could be sexy under the right circumstances, LOL!

Funny how scents mix with everyone differently though. I use it as an example sometimes when trying to explain why makeup works differently as well – if something as basic as a smell turns out different on two different people, why would you not think that something that sits RIGHT on your face wouldn’t? 🙂 I can’t wear most fruity smells… they turn rancid on me and start to smell like actual garbage! Haha! But anything musky or really earthy warms up and softens quite a bit on me, turning kind of sweet.
I had a friend in college who said that every perfume smelled like “baby’s vomit” on her, and something else about scent is it is often wrapped up with our memories regarding a particular scent. “Old lady” to some means “my grandma” to someone else and that’s a comforting, amazing smell.
Fun science fact for you (putting it very simply): One of the reasons scents are so powerful is because there are millions of bare nerve endings in there that link right to the nervous system and the brain – basically it’s like saying there’s nothing between the outside world and your brain… through your nose.
I think that’s why when you see something familiar it might take you a second to process it and then create the memory in your imagination. HOWEVER if you SMELL something familiar it can instantly take you back to a point in time as if you were still right there… even if it was decades ago.
I’ve always found it fascinating how fast it happens. For example: If I catch even a whiff of Jovan Musk I’m suddenly a 6 year old kid – excited that my mom has come to pick me up from the babysitter after her and my went out for the night. If I’m not expecting it, I’ll get chills and happy tears will start to well up just like they would when I was a kid.

I too see most scents turn odd like soap on my skin, but not fragrance-like, rather like Savon de Marseille! Yerk! Especially all the limited editions summery fruity fresh fragrances that smell soooo good in the bottle and on me… for 5 minutes. Si I have to stick to perfumes with a heavy note. The only light ones I can wear are all from Guerlain, because of the Guerlinade that is featured in all their scents and makes the perfumes really stick to my skin .

For school, I use a black Sephora bag (one of the ones free samples come in). I keep in it a mirror, makeup remover swabs, two tubes of lipstick, a copy of a poem (right now it’s Henley’s Invictus), and then I’ll rotate in the highlighter, concealer, powder, perfume and lipstick I’m using that day.

A Topshop lip gloss and Clinique pressed powder are the only makeup products I keep in my make up bag, but I also have a Blistex lip balm, a Banana Boat lip balm, Paul and Joe blotting sheets and a compressed deodorant (i love being nosy with peoples bags!)
I have a pretty big makeup collection, so I keep a separate makeup bag with products I use daily (lash curlers, concealer, etc) and products I want to remind myself of, like lipsticks I have put aside that are summery.

Right now, several lipsticks and a Kevyn Aucoin lip pencil. That’s all.

Nothing. I don’t carry anything I’m not using, so I usually only have a lip balm in my purse on any given day. I used to carry a ton of products, but between items getting lost/misplaced, and carrying “extras” for my daughter (crayons, books, snacks, etc.), there isn’t much room for my things. In fact, I rarely even have an actual “purse”; it has been replaced by a backpack, and before that, it was a diaper bag, and all I get is one “pocket”.
On occasion, I will put together a small bag, but only if I plan to be out all day, and have somewhere to go later in the evening. Even then, I’ll just toss in a powder compact, a small eye palette, a lipstick/gloss, a multi-use face brush & a random eye brush (that came with a palette-I save the “decent” ones for touch-ups), & a cheek product. Everything gets put back in its proper place as soon as I get home, though.

I used to have mattifying powder in there too, but it fell and some of it broke so I only use it before leaving the house now.
Usually just lipsticks and lipglosses. I normally carry a powder with me when I have a after work thing.
I always carry around blotting paper and lip balm (I rotate between Fresh, Kiehl’s, and Maybelline). When my skin is feeling really dry or irritated I bring First Aid Beauty’s ultra repair cream. Sometimes I’ll pack a lipstick and pressed powder, but that’s basically it.
The only beauty items that are constantly in my purse are:

For the most part, I seem to carry multiple lip products in my little makeup bag. I always have Korres lip balm and usually an OCC lip tar and a couple of lipsticks. Oh and even more crazy, I always have an eyebrow pencil in my bag too. It’s a neutral coloured thin pen type pencil by Anastasia.. not a product I use whatseover when I put my makeup on, but you never know when you might lose the tips of your eyebrows, right? Told ya..cray cray.. The tails of my eyebrows are practically non-existent due to illness and drugs and plucking the crap outta them in the 90’s.. I need my security blankie.

I don’t carry around much – I have a The Body Shop Born Lippy lip balm in Wow! (the plum one), a Manhattan lipstick (Take me away glossy lipstick/1) and a Catrice Camouflage Pot/Cream (it is a pot concealer). (I’m writing from Hungary, in case you’re wondering why I’m writing about some more obscure brands)
Almost all MAC! Foundation, a boatload of eyeshadow, a shadestick, a blush, VivaGlam IV lipstick, Maybelline mascara. And a Victoria’s Secret glittery lipgloss in the tube. And I cram a few brushes in there too. My makeup bag is a Dior one that I got a set of lipstick, nail polish, and mascara in in ’95! It has lasted me to this day, it’s higher quality than any other one I’ve actually paid individually for! Not to mention the lipstick and nail polish lasted YEARS. Perhaps they made that stuff higher quality back then? I don’t know
