I love bright golds paired with cranberries and plums paired with a neutral blush and either a really rich, berry lip or a lighter, neutral pink with a gloss on top.
Thanks to reader Melinda for today’s question idea Do you have a question idea? Submit yours here.
gold and green eyeshadow, bold red lipstick or a taupe nude, red nail polish, bright fuschia blush for a rosy glow.
Polished brows, pale skin with highlighter, gold or silver eye shadow with some shimmer, and red lips
I like to wear a peach shadow all over, with deep / forest green liner, and a matte warm, orange-red on the lips! I loooove wearing this look whenever I need a happy vibe in my life ahah 🙂
I like eyes with metallic or sparkly accents and bright red lipstick and neutral blush. Sometimes I’ll spin it so the sparkles are on the lips instead of the eyes. I think this year, MAC Kinky lipstick and gloss are going to figure in heavily.
A little gold always works! I love a good ole’ black & gold combo.
Definitely cranberry shades for eyeshadow!
I like to do matte red lips with a sparkly silver smoky eye. Or bronze and gold eyeshadow with shiny plum lipstick. Either way I go with BB cream and light pink blush. And plenty of black mascara and sometimes a black cat eyeliner! I’d like to do fake eyelashes but I’ve never gotten the hang of applying them
Love those ideas, Christine but i’m curious to know what is considered a ‘neutral’ blush? What brand(s)/colour(s) would you suggest because sometimes i feel that my blush pulls-focus from the bright lip and i feel that the no-blush looks incomplete. Curious to hear your recommendations.
I usually reach for Korres Natural, Burberry Earthy, and more recently, Chanel Jersey. For me, neutral tends to be beige, brown, and/or mixed with a little rosiness (like a rosy brown).
Chanel Jersey is a winner and I’d say almost universal. I can pull it off and I’m cool toned!
Ohhh, i’ll have to check them out. Thanks!
NARS Douceur is my HG, goes-with-anything shade! I’m aroundNC15 for reference, and very neutral. NARS Madly is nice, as well, and Milani Hermosa Rose is a great budget-friendly option.
Sparkley almost skintone eyeshadow, dark liner and red lips. Maybe a little bronzer to give some warmth.
I love a classic crisp cranberry or Crimson lip paired with flawless skin, eyes awash in white and gold with black liner, and a very nude blush with highlighter perfecting a perfect skin glow without going over the top. Also: Silver Gold & Reds, burgundy red to be exact! And no liner , just mascara! 😀 (and a dap of champagne gloss 🙂
ooo… white and gold! that’s not a combo that’s occurred to me before! how do you do it? white on lid and gold in crease?
Hello Joy! I’m delighted you’re intrigued! Basically, I’m very pale. That helps with how I do this. The main eye lid to brow bone is white, including inner areas are on bottom tear duct and in 2/3.. You may then press into the white a frosted white to give it a satin dimension and making the white brighter, even a very light platinum shimmer will do. On the eyelid: Press a light but good solid shimmer gold color, and bring up and out like a cat eye, catching up the outer 1/3 of the Lower eyelid up with it, deepening in the crease to show it off more if necessary.. Then wet gold and make a line precisely.. Go back underneath lower lasts in that space as well.. Finish with a press of sparkling white gold dust on lid, inner eye area, tear ducts, and keep brow bone a matte white. A flush of cranberry blush and gloss or even a nude lip or any color will work with this. Don’t forget mascara!!!! 😀 preferred lip has a shimmer relatable to eye and flush relatable to blush. Makes eyes look enormous and so beautiful! I hope I explained alright and this inspires you! 😀 xoxo!!!
Oh yes, and a thin liquid black cat flick right below the gold one! It’s GORGEOUS! 😀
thanks for the detailed description, Lotus! i’m definitely inspired to give it a try. i often wear gold but usually as a eye brightening color in my smokey looks so your look will be a nice out of the box fun look for me!
i love the black liner with gold liner on top idea and have done it a few times when i need to get ready for an outing quickly! i love it paired with a bold, red lip!
You’re welcome, Joy! 🙂 Please let me know how messing around with white and gold goes for you! A red lip is beautiful! (The right shade of red, each person is different) You can do that gold wing over a black wing with a white matte base all over your entire lid and area with just a dabbing of sheer gold shimmer in the middle of the lid, browbone, inner corners, and even in the beautiful center of your bottom “Red lip” & cupid’s bow! To make the white below the lash line stand out, like if you have a lower eyeball lid, add a touch of white frost/ shimmer! Anywhere you want the white to stand out! 🙂 For the crease, if you need something, use a red orange! Then a natural flush of color to cheeks like a berry would be on you.. It’s like you’re a golden snowflake! Anything you do, I’m sure you’ll enjoy and look absolutely stunning, Joy! I really do love the idea of pale shimmered eyes, a mysterious cat effect, bare face with a flush, and those Red lips for you, going by your picture! Brown eyes make it stand out whereas green or blue mix with it, still lovely, but I’d love to see it on you! Do a look! 😀 ? Bonus look: The look with your signature smoke added? What brand cosmetics do you mostly enjoy for your eyes and such?
Peace & Happiness! <3, Lotus
i’ll dig around my stash and search out the appropriate colors! i’m currently obssessed with the new MUFE artist shadows. i love how pigmented but blendable they are! the heavy pigmentation really helps them look truer to pan even over the purple of my veins. i love M530 eggshell as a base to neutralize my veins/highlight. my go-to trio is ME512 Golden Beige/D320 Golden Khaki/ME 624 Black Gold. i have swatches of these and more over on my blog if you’re curious. other staples in my stash include Urban Decay, Too Faced, Lorac. i’ve recently hauled in some Rouge Bunny Rouge and indie brand Fyrinnae has great colors if you’re willing to deal with loose powder. Polar Bear is one of my favorite pale golds. favorite blush brand is definitely Tarte. lips i’m loving Estée Lauder’s Pure Envy lipsticks, Lipstick Queen and Buxom. for base, most days my Iope’s Cushion XP serves well. how about you?
Sounds beautiful! I just found your blog and I’m excited! You’ve similar interests! 😀 I will have to spend good time there checking all that out, including your MUFE artist shadow loves! I’m Trying to clear up my skin presently, it keeps playing yo-yo with me so it’s most likely from an internal problem I keep dodging doctors to get help for. So I’m not really wearing any base products atm, but I’ve had luck with Holika Holika Petite Essential BB cream, Dr. dennis Gross BB, IOPE Air Cushion lightest cover, Hourglass Illusion, whatever it’s called, tibted moisturizer, amazing thick mouse glides and matches well, I love NARS loose crystal transparent setting powder, Becca, MAC, Laura Gellar, Hourglass and Charlotte Tilbury blushes, Marc Jacobs Eye products! I’m Trying not to buy too much new stuff because I have a room full of collections from a decade that I’ve never touched so.. I’m going to work with them.. Sara Happ lipp has been kind to my Luis as well as Hourglass no28 oil lip thing, Marc Jacobs treatment lip, and Amore Pacific lip treatment, and for lip color, YSL is at the top, and I love Givenchy Rouge Interdit Satins and Guerlain Rouge Gs etc., but I’m having problems with their colors, so Gs purchases stop, UD & MAC are both brands I’ve too much from, and then a bunch of older LE DC things from all types of brands! I love Fyrinnae, I have one pressed eyeshadow, Unicorn 🙂 but meh.. My skin is so odd! I’m so pale but very pigmented eyes & lips with odd skin issues I’ve never dealt with in my youth, so the whole foundation thing is still new to me. I’d rather not wear it. I like many things, I could go on forever but I doubt people want to read that book! I did want to thank you for for response and comment back though, and I’ll be visiting your blog! 😀 Its nice to make friends here with the same passions and fun kind attitude! Thank you for the joy, Joy! 🙂 Yay!
i feel the same way! it’s definitely nice to have someone to share the enthusiasm and obsession with! a couple of my good friends ask a few interested questions now and then to take an interest in my interest but it’s not the same as being able to babble to someone who shares your passion for it!
as for the skin problems, have you considered seeing a doctor familiar with traditional chinese medicine? i had really trouble free skin in my hs/college years then it went haywire in my late 20s due to stress and other factors. eventually, after trying everything under the sun, i finally got it under control with TCM. feel free to email me about it you want to learn more. i’m beginning to feel like we’re spamming Christine 😛
I agree with you! 😀 I also feel like we are spamming. 🙁 I’m unaware how to email you though! Haha.. I’ll be checking my email, so if you comment on how, I’d totally love to continue conversing! Hence, I would follow the wisdom from there. I’m too under the weather to give 100% to blog posts atm, and I never feel at peace by only responding to a few when people take the time to say something so I appreciate that and will reappear at Temptalia my next bout of energy! 😀 XOs Christine!
Usually readers will email me and give me permission to connect them to someone else and vice versa 🙂
I like neutral eyes with neutral blush and bold shimmery lips. Or shimmery eyes with a bold lip. I don’t like holiday looks to be too natural
I’m not into certain colors during certain seasons. I wear reds, neutrals, mauves, oranges, greens, corals, pinks lips and eyes all year long. Even though I wear sparkle and shimmer quite frequently, I will say though that glitter and sparkle on the eyes is a must for me for Christmas and New Years:) last year I wore navy, teal and gold on the eyes with a nude lip for Christmas and a smoked burgundy eye and nude lip for New Years:)
Nothing specific, but gold eyeshadow and glossy red lips feature more often! It’s Summer here, so I don’t like to get too full on – partly because of the heat/humidity (it almost always rains on Christmas day in my part of Middle Earth, LOL!) and the fact that it stays light til like 9pm, which makes dramatic makeup seem a little incongruous 😉
I like two looks:
1.Taupes and Rosy shades with an emphasis on rosy cheeks. I like this look for Thanksgiving because you’re going to be eating on and off all day so doing a nicer lip is hard to maintain. I’m also cooking so I don’t do a major eye.
2. Kohl eye and a deep or red lip with perfect skin. Those are my Christmas and New Years looks pretty much.
A gold smokey eye, slightly winged liner, peachy pink blush and a berry lip! 🙂
My favourite holiday look depends upon what I am wearing. But I do favour greens, navy, grey with gold or silver eyeshadows, with peach blush and either bold red lipsticks, browns – Milani’s toffee brown or Elizabeth Arden’s Ginger Spice. I love wearing makeup.
I love doing dark, smoky looks highlighted with shimmery gold (often Sugarpill Goldiluxe!), but this year I have Nyx’s Aqua Luxe glittery lip gloss in “Disco Playground” (a pretty, glittery gold) that I’d love to layer over a red lip, so maybe I’ll downplay the eyes a bit this time… or maybe I’ll go all out and have gold everywhere! 😛
For the holidays, I really like an icy pastel look with just a hint of shimmer, NOT heavy frost or glitter. I think it can be a very soft and festive look and encourage women to make other holiday fashion decisions than the same old, black, red, green or gold. I have seen many women who go with the super red lipstick look for the holidays. I love that look as long as the woman who wears it has briliant white, straight teeth, otherwise bright red lipstick just calls attention teeth you’d rather not have “framed”.
thanks to this question and your answer, Christine, i was inspired to do a smokey look with my MUFE artist shadow in fig with aqua cream 11 (a shimmery gold) in the center with a sheer wine colored lip and got effusive praise from my boyfriend when he came home!
traditionally, i usually gravitate towards golds and browns for thanksgiving (this year was Lorac liquid lustre in 24k and UD West). for christmas, i usually do gold and greens (pretty much my favorite combo year round) and silver and black on new year’s. lip colors vary a bit more on mood and how intense the eye looks ended up being
Gold and cranberry!
I like smokey eye paired with deep berry lipstick
Although I wear it all year long, my favorite holiday look is a gold smokey eye paired with a red (MAC Diva, Riri/Ruby Woo) or Berry (Rebel/fashion revival) lip. I honestly believe this is the time of the year when beauty addicts can get away with a bold eye and bold lip without being judged or looked at weird 🙂
Oh! I can’t forget a blush that makes your skin look a bite flushed from the cool weather and a great highlight! I love it all!
I’ve typically gone for more dramatic smokey jewel toned eye combos like green with burgundy or bronze tones. Although this year I may play around with brighter golds and plummy shades.
I really love iced out eyes, big falsies, and a vampy lip in any shade! I love wearing black, blue, and of course, the classic reds.
My go to look is a light (gold and brown) smokey eye with subtle lips. I completely agree with the previous comments that believe a little gold always goes well with the festive season. 😉
