What would you gift to someone just getting into makeup?
I’d probably give some of the more recently-released ColourPop palettes – like a palette, a couple of lip products, and a highlighter/blush.

I wouldn’t gift Colourpop – after their Rowling collab they don’t get any of my money. I have gifted Real Techniques brushes (cheap and good quality) with some Sephora highlighter and neutral palettes.
Probably a full face palette with eyeshadows, delicate blush and lipstick and/or lip gloss, all in one package. My favorite palette like this is from Dior most of the time, especially at the holidays. And if it’s for one of my nieces, I don’t mind spending on them. Unfortunately, no other women in my family are into makeup like I am. I’ve always LOVED makeup since I was a little girl. I had gifted Chanel lip glosses one year to my sisters and my mom…..they didn’t even realize the significance of it lol. They just don’t get it.
I would actually gift them a session with a makeup artist, to learn the basics of applying makeup and get recommendations for what products would suit them well. I think it’s more valuable and less wasteful to get the basics and learn what colors look good on them. Plus, it’s a wonderful pampering experience.
This is such a good idea!
This what I was thinking. That way they get a good start.
Excellent idea!
Great idea!
I’m wholeheartedly agreeing with what Ana Maria said up above! ⬆️
THAT would be a great segue into makeup. Getting foundation/bb cream/skin tint matched, getting a palette that really fits the person’s coloring and style, preferably a whole face palette or a solid performing set including a 5-10 pan basic but fun eyeshadow palette/blush/highlighter/lipstick or gloss, eyeshadow primer, mascara, eyebrow pencil or powder (Elf has a fantastic brow 4-pan palette!), an inexpensive, yet well performing brush set.
A brush set, a red lipstick and a neutral eye palette
For someone just getting into makeup, I would gift them a set of Nude by Nature’s Artist brushes that are excellent value for the price.
I like the idea of gifting a person a session with a makeup artist, but not one aligned to a brand – simply because they just promote their own brand’s products which may or may not suit that person.
I would also gift them some really good skincare products (such as from The Ordinary, Inkey List or Neutragena) because you can never be too young to start caring for your skin.
For sure about the skincare, and it is never too early to start building good habits. I started at 12 and now I am 64 and find that it made a difference in how my skin looks and how it behaves.
I think I’d go the opposite route and get things that feel more special and luxurious. PMG has plenty of sales and her mothership palettes have a good range of every day neutrals for various preferences. I’d probably also just get them a gift card to Sephora and then go with them to help pick out base products that will be their preference.
When my daughter started out with make up i gave her concealer for blemishes – mascara- lip gloss / very shimmery glittery – I think her first make up experience was the MAC Ariana Grande collection – the lip glosses were perfect I think my daughter was in elementary and i swear she used the gloss up in a week! Then the mariah carey collection and its glittery lip gloss and highlighter. Keeping it sheer and light but using concealer mascara & some brows can work always
That would depend on the person, their age, and their preferences.
I’d probably get them a gift certificate to Ulta or Sephora, and offer to go shopping with them if they want help.
If I had to get a physical gift, I’d probably go with a nice neutral palette from an indie brand and some Real Techniques eye brushes.
Maybe brushes!
A Natasha Denona mini palette, tarte blush, physicians formula bronzer (optional), japonesque or elf brush set, Lisa eldridge lipstick and Stila eye liner 🙂
