I’m not heavily into limited edition collections but I loved the “understory” (all fake, of course, but still lovely) of MAC’s A Tartan Tale. I loved the names of so many of the items, the photos of all those Celtic looking red-heads with the masses of messy hair tied up with bits of tartan. I only got a few of the products but I really liked the concept or the story or the fantasy…

I’m not a MAC follower (i like them but i dont own more than 5 things from them because i dont have a store in my small town), but that collections sounds beautiful. Too bad I missed it!

Miss J Avatar

I don’t know if I’m the only one like this, but I can only ever seem to remember MAC collections! Like, I would never be able to tell you “x” product came from “y” collection from “z” brand. I don’t know why it’s like that for me. Many of the products I love aren’t from MAC, but I just don’t remember when they came out or with what collection. Maybe it’s because MAC makes a bigger deal out of their collection launches than other brands, but they just seem to be more memorable.

With that said, I can only tell my favorite MAC collection, which was Lure. That was probably the last MAC collection I remember being REALLY excited about.

Guerlain Fall 2011. I love the shades of Ecrin 4 Couleurs that were released in the collection, and of course, Rouge Gs in Gigolo and Girly. 😉

I’m with you on the Holiday 2012 Collection as well, Christine. I’m obsessed with Turandot!

I loved the Barbie Loves MAC collection. The packaging was great and I loved all of the lipsticks. I also picked up a LE T-Shirt that I wore all the time. A close second was MAC’s Rebel Rock collection. I bought almost the entire collection.

BOBBI BROWN Tortoise Shell Collection Fall 2011. Sadly, she hasn’t came out with something that big and nice since imo. Thank you Christine xx

I would have to say the Shu Uemura holiday 2010 collection. The colors and packaging are just too cute to pass up! It was my first high end makeup purchase too.

L Avatar

Everytime I see LE on anything it makes me want it for some reason, not that I always buy it. I haven’t been collecting or buying makeup or LE things for a long time, but I have never been as excited for anything ever than I was for MAC’s Archie Girl’s collection.

I have no idea! Even for the limited edition items I do have, I don’t categorize them mentally that way. I wouldn’t be able to tell you which collections they came from! I do get excited hearing about collections to come but then once I buy, I kind of forget they were ever a collection. I’m all about looking at my makeup stash as many individual items that I happened to love enough to purchase. I sort by brand, but like I said, I have no recollection of all the different collections at all.

Urban Decay 15 year anniversary….the eye pencil set and the eye-shadow collection. Crazy for the UD shadows. For what ever reason, when I found out Loreal acquired UD, my interest stopped.

Emily Avatar

UD 15th is my all time favorite too. I agree about loreal, another reason i was so loyal to UD is because they are cruelty free, so I’m waiting to see if being acquired by loreal will change anything.

It’s so hard to say – there are a couple nail polish collections I loved enough to buy the entire collection, though. Sinful Color’s Enchanted Collection comes to mind, it was just perfect – I love all the colors in it so much, not a single color I dislike.

Any BareMinerals limited edition collection is my favorite. To be specific, I would have to say their Hot To Trot lip gloss collection. It’s packed full of shades I can’t live without and use everyday.

The Lancome “Pollen” collection in 2000, which launched the Juicy Tubes. I love it not because the products were so brilliant or innovative, but because it was the first time I ever felt confident enough to experiment with color. I bought a peachy blush, highlighting powder and a bright orange Juicy Tube that smelled like honey and felt very glamorous, lol.

I’ve purchased from many beautiful collections since then but the nostalgia factor makes that one my favorite.

Alison Avatar

May I have three? Chanel Byzance (Oh, Rouge, won’t you come back to me?), Guerlain Holiday 2012, and the Armani Acqua collection – so many gorgeous Eyes to kill shades that I wish were all permanent!

Kate Avatar

Hm… It was hard not to love the Guerlain Fall 2011 collection, but I don’t really count that since the items weren’t limited (THANKFULLY!!!). Guerlain’s 2012 holiday collection was lovely, but I also adored Two large collections from Mac: Cult of Cherry and Spring Colour Forecast 2010. Those are ones that truly inspired me when they came out and that have proven incredibly versatile and useful in subsequent years. I find that I need some time to figure out what my absolute favourite collections are.

Ani_BEE Avatar

This is hard for me.

The packaging I go with MAC Hello Kitty.

For Products MAC Spring Colour Forecast 2010. The colour in that one where my favorite of all time. I would love to see a reboot of that one.

For both packaging and product is the Disney collections from Sephora and Urban Decay’s 15th Anniversary.

MYALIBI Avatar

I don’t have much limited edition collection, but I am just glad that I got the Urban Decay’s 15th Anniversary Palette.

I really loved OPI’s 007 Skyfall collection this past winter. I ended up purchasing about six of the polishes and the 14kt topcoat. I also loved Stila’s Barbie collection from around 2007, I think? I got a paint can that was a Sephora.com exclusive that had products to recreate the original 1959 Barbie look. The red lipstick is gorg and I still use the can to hold my brushes!

This was a difficult one… I actually have several, all for different reasons, so I’ve narrowed down the list:

1. Kat von D Gypsy palette; I haven’t used this one much, but the colors & combinations are so unique. With the exception of the creme shadow (ironically, the one shade that made me actually buy the palette), the quality is amazing.

2. UD Black palette; while it was around for a very long time, it was listed as LE. I agree with most that it isn’t a “stand-alone” palette, but I figured that out upon looking at it the first time. The pigmentation is just incredible, and I love every color, so I supplement the palette with other shadows.

3. Wet n Wild mineral powder foundation; this was just as good as any HE MPF, but less than $5… Why do brands make everyday, basic products LE?

4. NARS Arabian Nights trio; yes, this product is finicky, and a PITA that takes alot of work, and additional products to get amazing results, but the end result makes it worth the effort, which is the point of makeup, IMO. For me, makeup is like painting; a “Paint-by-Numbers” kit is easier to do & nice to look at, but it doesn’t compare to a museum piece.

I’m with Christine and some of you gals. Guerlain’s holiday 2012 collection was actually the ONLY holiday collection I even bothered to purchase anything from. Simply stellar.

Geneva Avatar

MAC Warm and Cozy collection, I love Mulled Cider eyeshadow and Spiced Tea Lipstick. The Mineralized skin finishes looked beautiful, but alas, I didn’t get any.

Leticia Avatar

MAC To the Beach – so fun, with many products to choose from and that were worth the effort of hunting this LE collection.

Lee Avatar

It’s not even a hard decision: MAC Spring Colour Forecast. I loved almost everything in the collection and I think I might’ve bought all the lipsticks.

Nikki Avatar

I don’t really indulge in LE collections, but I was really infatuated with the MAC Fashion Sets collection. I am a huge lip gloss junkie, and I was so excited to see that they transformed their most popular lipstick shades into gloss form! I bought many of those glosses and use them all the time! I also liked many of the products included in the MAC Venomous Villain collection, although I am not fortunate enough to own any. I was not into MAC products at the time that collection was released, but I’ve ohh-ed and ahh-ed at many of the swatches I’ve seen of it online.

Tie between Chanel and Guerlain holiday 2012, although if I HAD to pick one I guess I’d say Guerlain because I love everything I got. The chanel face powder was, unfortunately a glitter bomb and had to go back. But I replaced it with Malice nail polish so it ended well!!

Amalia Avatar

Guerlain holiday 2012. It was amazing, MAC Venomous Villains and Peacock collection, I missed some products, Mega Metal e/s ,ohhh Toxic Tale lipstick….

Kathrina Avatar

I so loved Dior’s holiday collection from 2011, especially the lipsticks. Another one that comes to my mind is MAC’s Cult of Cherry way back in 2008.

Gia Avatar

so many fav! Probably my favor was MAC Hello Kitty and Sugarsweet. I found so many of my Holy Grail products due to them being all nice shades of pastels. Then MAC Archie Girls just because it took two of my obsessions and combined them. Than when I was around 13 Dior had a fall/summer (can’t remember its been so long) Detective collection. It was perfect shades of browns. The packing was amazing. To this day I still have not found a more perfect shade of bronzer than that one. I’ve searched over 10 years!

SarahE Avatar

I loved the Guerlain 2012 collection too, but one stand-out collection for me was MAC’s Blonde, Brunette, Redhead collection. There were so many gorgeous colors and I picked up some key pieces which I still adore to this day.

Montréalaise Avatar

OPI’s fall/winter 2005 collection, “Chicago”, mainly because it had several amazing vampy shades – Lincoln Park After Dark, Mrs. O’Leary’s BBQ, Got The Blues for Red, My Kind of Brown.

Lizzy Avatar

MAC Venomous Villians. Last brilliant set they did, but something for everyone and Don’t We Love Bad Girls!

Style Black was such a great zeitgeist Fashion Moment. There were women in rural Louisiana doing farm work in Glimmerglass; I mix it up fresh every fall. It’s rare to have such reach by one idea but Style Black was a reflection of the runways. This was MACs greatness, but I think that staff is gone and we won’t see such again.

Gulf Stream. Loved it.

alyson Avatar

either the MAC playboy collection or the summer collection MAC had that had marine life, etc.. although i do usually like their summer collections

Definately MAC Heavenly Creature! I wish i could buy them all, especially Stratus 🙁 I do own Light Year and i’m using it everyday!
