What was the mascara you tried? Was it love?
NARS Climax Mascara, which I like but can get a little clumpy if I’m not careful, and the brush is quite large, so it’s not love as I always get mascara bits on my lid.

The last mascara I tried was Clarins Wonder Perfect 4D and I love it. It doesn’t leave a smudge under my eyes, it looks natural but makes my lashes look darker, longer – just really nice, and this is coming from someone who rarely wears mascara.
Christine, I don’t mean to nit-pick, but are all of these questions meant to say “what is the LAST mascara (blush, lipstick, etc.) you tried”? I assumed the “last” just got dropped inadvertently but from some of the replies (where posters have listed several items that they’ve tried and loved), I guess I’m unsure as to whether the question is asking for a list of products we’ve tried recently and either loved or not liked very much….
Oh, yes, probably was what it was intended, lol, but I missed it or it got deleted during copying and pasting, sorry!
Sephora Big By Definition. Wet mascara. Like the brush. Very black. Gives length and volume. Like it A LOT!!
I was given a sample of Lancome Idole with my purchase. I hated it and I threw it directly in the trash lol. I’ve tried all the big name mascaras….everything from Lancome to Dior, Chanel…..I always go back to Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black. You can’t beat the volume and they have the BEST brush….so dense and NOT rubber. I don’t get rubber mascara brushes. My train case is filled with the best eyeshadows, blushes, lipsticks and glosses….but my good ol’ Loreal mascara is right up there in my arsenal.
Yes that brush w L’Oréal Voluminous is the best and I hated rubber wands!!
It’s funny that you say that, because I never get anything spectacular from L’Oreal Voluminous. I used Maybelline Full n Soft for a long time, but I actually tend to prefer the rubber brushes.
I guess mascara really is personal!
I’m a rubber brush person too, though for ecology’s sake I hope they’ll find a way to make similar with plastic. So hard it seems in the beauty arena.
without plastic sorry
I finally tried Eyekos Beach Mascara (which is amazing and does not budge!) Used it for my wedding it’s so good.
Never heard of so thanks for mentioning.
The last time I tried a different mascara was a few months ago, when I bought Maybelline Total Temptation. It was clumpy and flaky, so I went back to my long-time HG mascara, Cover Girl Clump Crusher (Waterproof), which never lets me down. Clump Crusher has won out over every mascara I’ve ever tried, from drugstore to high-end.
I concur. Clump Crusher always wins out for me.
I’m rotating Rare Beauty Perfect Stroke Mascara – which does a nice job of defining my lashes and not giving me raccoon eyes. It’s simple, but effective and I’d repurchase. I also am using Lancome Teint Idole and I love the brush. It fits my eye lashes so well. Another nice one for defining lashes and no raccoon lash for me. I’d likely repurchase as well.
I finally tried Thrive mascara after hearing so much about it. I love it. I have sensitive eyes and it does not bother me at all and makes my lashes look great.
I always get suckered in with new mascara hype but always seem to go back to Urban Decay Perversion or Pat McGrath Fetish. For lower mascara you can’t beat
Mac Gigablack extended play lash..it has a super small, thin wand made for lower lashes.
I’m with you on the Mac extended play for lower lashes. PMG Fetish is too heavy for my upper lashes, so I go Dior iconic overcurl to get needed lift (I won’t use an eyelash curler). I also use extended play as a final coat on my upper lashes because the wand is so perfect for lengthening and separating.
Tried MAC magic extension as my latest, not bad, but extended play is still that much better.
Hey Wednesday….I tried the MAC magic extension and felt the same way….I’m surprised more people don’t realize how great and versatile that little Mac extended play gigablack is….I might give the Dior iconic a try as I don’t curl my lashes either…..
I’ve been using the same mascara for awhile now. I’ve used the Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extension tubing mascara and the Ilia Limitless Lash mascara for the last several years. I’ve got sensitive skin, so it’s tough to find a mascara that works how I want it to and doesn’t burn my eyes.
I like the Thrive for ease of removal but it is a little clumpier and wetter than I usually like. The Ilia Limitless Lash is great. I love the two-sided brush, the formula was not too wet even when I first opened it and I’ve had this little sample for so long it’s the perfect “dryness.” I wish they had a slightly softer color available, just my personal preference.
Tarte Big Ego Vegan Mascara, I think. It’s been a very ong time, so I’m not sure. I liked it fine. It performed well, but Ithe applicator shape and size wasn’t my favorite. I still prefer their Lights, Camera, Lashes and Gifted mascaras better.
Last Thursday, I diverted from my usual Heroine Make Long and Curl Super Waterproof Mascara and tried a sample of Milk Rise Mascara and I totally HATED it! First of all, the brush was too thick and was getting mascara spots on my lids. Second, and by far worst of all, it made my curl from my lash curler fall! I very quickly tried to remedy the situation by using my usual Heroine mascara over it. One eye turned out fine, the other not so much.
I just got the Heroine Make Long and Curl and am trying it for the first time today!
I really hope that you enjoy using it, Jess! The only catch is, this one really IS super waterproof and only removes with oil and patience. What I’ve been doing is taking some Charmin Strong TP (4 sheets folded in half), applying generic baby oil w/aloe vera to that and then pressing the oil packed paper into my lashes for at least a minute before wiping it off.
Thanks for the tip for difficult mascara👍🏽
The names of the Heroine Make confuse me, but all are faves.Since pandemic, I’ve bought through big A, out of wariness of returning to the Asian marketplace. There’s a new H mart next door; can’t wait to see Korean goodies. I tried Caliray and don’t think Wende’s mascara is all that and a bag of chips. I need tubing on the bottom and that doesn’t cut it. Who ever heard of a tubing is that’s hard to remove, much less has a confusing brush? Big fat no. Not a great look, either.
Yeah, I’ve been hearing some weird things about the Caliray mascara, KJH. For instance, what you mentioned concerning the removal seems to be the biggest issue. As it is, I have such pathetic, nearly no lower lashes, that I don’t even bother with mascara on them the past few years. But, I may give The Ordinary lash serum a try in order to hopefully grow them back like when I used castor oil on them. Then, the lower lashline mascara I’ll give a go will either be Thrive Causmetics or MAC Gigablack.
The mascara I loved and repurchased over and over was Givenchy with the little ball bristles on the top. It just fit and the mascara itself was supreme. It’s been discontinued and I just don’t bother trying to dupe it. A true shame. I think I use the L’Oréal Paradise one now. No where near Givenchy.
That’s the one I thought of when I got an Eyeko with the ball near the wand. Seriously? Foolish. And I had to borrow a sledgehammer to get off either of the Eyekos I tried. They would not sell well if they weren’t loved by some. But for me, they got the Worst Ever award.
Concur on the Givenchy with the spiked ball, I think it was called Phemomen’Eyes. It was great for applying specifically where you wanted and I liked that it came in a dark brown, hard to find.
Benefit Roller Lash: no clumping and no fallout. This retired nurse feels a bit safer with the silicone brush, and I sttill use a new one every 3 months. Protect your eyes!
I kinda find a staple and stick with it. When Ulta has 21 days of make up I stock up on the $10-$12 ones.. what ever the brand available. One this I completely disagree with is when people say drug store mascara is the same as high end.. LIARS! no way ever… sorry. I absolutely dislike all drug store mascara.. never ever had I tried one that was decent. That being said stand outs for me are of course Mother Pat- love all her mascara.. lengthening thickening dark.. makes me look like I put on falsies. I also love Lancome Big ? and YSL makes an awesome mascara. Never have been a fan of the MAC mascaras but I recently picked on up and was impressed.
Mascara is something I wear daily (the same goes for eyeliner), so I’ve tried countless brands and products. Nothing beats (for me) the Lash Lift Mascara from Sweed Beauty. The wand is light and its unique shape (like a comb) separates the lashes and gives length like no other. It works so well for me that I order it from Sweden (I live in Canada). I need to order another one soon enough and this time I will order the one in dark brown as well.
The new Chanel Noir Allure mascara is pretty nice!
I am not a connoisseur of mascaras at all. I really like those that don’t clump and provide a bit of volume, but not length. Designer Brand Central Park tube mascara is my latest and that is fine for me. But what I really loved was Clinique’s Navy blue mascara, which (of course) the brand d/c.

I use Mac Extended Play Gigablack for my lower lashes, and I love it! For my upper lashes, Tarte Gifted, a really great mascara, volumising an lengthening, easy to remove, perfect brush!
I tried the Rare Beauty mascara. It was rather clumpy for me.
A while back I tried Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect and it was instant love. I’ve been using it ever since. It’s inexpensive, cruelty-free, and easy to find (Amazon even has it).
Last one?
Actually two that I bought at the same time. One I looked for and wanted a twist wand and in brown (so only one choice since Kiko’s brand is reissuing theirs) was Bourjois Ultra Mascara. The twist works and the volume can be upped, but it’s thin, so you need coats. It doesn’t clump & removes okay. I wouldn’t say I “love” it. It does the job for daily wear, which is what I wanted. Kiko’s is better so I hope it returns.
The second was one that was at a high end dollar store (of sorts) ha! L’Oreal Air Volume Mega Mascara Easy Waterproof. The idea is you can remove it with warm water. I can’t say it does as I always use either makeup remover (Black Cleansing Oil by Erborian) or eye makeup remover. It’s fine. Thin too like most drugstore types and needs layers to give a weak mega look. It doesn’t clump though.
