We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

I’m a (very) latecomer to this one: Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lipstick. I was surprised by how close to my natural lip color this shade is…truly a MLBB color. I’m not crazy about the formula, but the color is absolutely perfect.
Because of my swatching other large Nars eyeshadow palettes in the past and feeling very ‘meh’ towards them, I have been so very pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality and workability of their latest Unrated Eyeshadow Palette. So much so, that I have used it in literally every single eye look I’ve worn since receiving it when I got home from the hospital and rehab center! Summer Moon is the color of my dreams!
The Huda Beauty Rose Quartz palette. I thought it would be nice, but I did not expect for it to give me as much enjoyment as it does. I think it is absolutely beautiful and it is truly a joy to use.
I’m not surprised at all Gemini 2 was good. Melt has always had a great formula. Their shimmers aren’t my favorite formula but they perform just fine.
ELF glossy lip tints. I last tried a lip tint from them back when it came in a felt tip marker form and it was so drying and so unflattering. These are little doe foot applicators and they deposit just enough product and they stay glossy for a long time.
These kind of questions remind me how much I repurchase old favorites so there’s nothing new to impress me negatively or positively. 😅
I recently slowly started to wear more lipstick, so I started using a MAC Powder Kiss one I must have been received as a gift with order. Nice color, but I hate the formula; as a background, I love MAC Mate formula, for me that’s enough for creaminess and it’s comfortable; I hate formulas like Creamsheen or Lustre. I somehow expected Powder Kiss to be a mate but comfortable formula… instead it’s very creamy and slippery and I impressed me in a bad way. Too much moisture for me, so it ends up smudging.
Clarins mascara (I forget the name and I’m too exhausted to look it up). I usually skip mascara entirely because I almost always get a smear under one eye, no matter if it’s waterproof or not, high end or low cost….very few mascaras haven’t done this but this newer one from Clarins is fabulous and no grey smear.
Stila Heavens Hue Highlighter, no idea what possessed me to buy this cream in Kitten. I have learned to use it and like it. It’s elegant and understated. I mix it with my powder bronzer and it makes a nice sunny look. Not are purchase though.
The last beauty product that surprised me in a very good way was the Flower Beauty Skin Illusion and Serum foundations. Both are quite different from one another – with the Skin Illusion being more medium to full coverage and the Serum foundation being a light coverage. Both of them are unscented (a big plus), easy to apply and last for a good 8 hours (more with a face primer in use).
I bought both of them on a whim, being half price at our local Chemist Warehouse and after trialing them, I went back and bought some backups. Both foundations even out my skintones and give me a very smooth look.
It wasn’t makeup but Estee Lauder Perfectionist Pro Instant Wrinkle Filler has made a very big difference in how my makeup looks under my eyes. My foundation and concealer were caking and driving me crazy. This stuff makes everything stay in place and look beautifully air brushed. I will try it on the 11s in between my eyebrows next and see if it will make a difference there. I’m ordering another tube as a backup right now.
WOW, it sounds great. I will have to check it out. I don’t have much trouble under my eyes, except for darkness but no wrinkles. My 11’s are a problem though and I would love to try this. Thank you for mentioning it.
Deborah,
It has a very different texture, it feels very thick. It tells you to pat it on, I just smooth it on very carefully and then I leave it alone to set. I put my foundation and concealer over top but I don’t rub it in because I feel that it would disturb it and make it patchy. I’ve used it four times and I’ve worn it for more than eight hours and it’s stayed put. I powder and put setting spray over it. I’m hoping that this will work on the smile lines around my mouth too. I hope it works for you.
Thank you for the additional information, Brenda. I am definitely checking it out in Seattle. I am planning on doing some serious makeup and skin care shopping while in the big city!!
Rare beauty foundation and concealer. Absolute holy grail items for me! I also realized that I have neutral undertones not golden/olive and that’s been a game changer for me.
